  1. And that's the problem you run into, especially if you're beating up wind (tacking) and happen to be near a boundary. It's critical that players in the same area always see each other. PvP1 is, and was always, an EU based server. PvP2 is the only US based PvP server.
  2. It won't "change", it will simply be the same. So you have the choice once the servers come up of continuing to play on PvP1 with your current PvP1 assets, and/or playing on PvP3 with your current PvP1 assets. Those will be two different servers from now on, but they'll both have the gold, XP, crafting XP, ships, etc. that you have on PvP1 today, however, any changes you make by playing on those servers (except for Combat XP/Rank) will forever be separate, just like PvP1 and PvP2 today.
  3. I'm not sure if you've ever developed software or handled large databases (if you have, my apologies). This is not going poorly at all. Backing up an entire database and restoring it to a new machine, then getting it reconfigured and set up to the point that you can log a few developers in and test it prior to reopening the source database takes a little bit of time. Planning and discussions to take this action have been going on internally for a longer time than you think. Please refrain from commenting on how well or poorly things are going when you are not privy to the Developers' conversations and procedures. With that out of the way, the question remains, "how can Game Labs encourage at least part of the population of PvP1, which is overcrowded, to move to PvP3"? We have had a week of complaining about ping times to PvP2, massive complaints about waiting in Queue, and massive complaints about not being able to take all assets to a new server. There exists no tool that allows the Devs to press a button and have assets transfer. Heck, at the moment, there exists no tool to allow the Devs to rename someone or change their nationality. Tools like that will come when the feature list is far smaller and the game mechanics stabilize. So, given that the community just can't fathom the idea of starting on a new server with just their rank, given the community can't stand waiting in line to play the game, and given the community just can't tolerate the ping times to PvP2, what is the best answer? I'd say restoring a backup of PvP1 to a new EU based server is the best response to the community's complaints. The fairest way to mirror the assets is to do so unannounced - otherwise you then get a rage thread where people yell about how they didn't know this was going to happen, and it isn't fair that others knew and were able to grind up their assets (or relocate them to strategic places to start an immediate offensive, etc). This means that PvP1 is now status-quo on PvP3. Those that decide to move servers will be in the exact same spot they were in, good or bad, and those that stay on PvP1 are in the same boat so to speak. I appreciate that players do not want to split the community, but the fact remains that PvP1 is overpopulated, and actions must be taken to ensure a portion of that population wants to go to 3. PvP2 is consistently low population, there is zero incentive for the Devs to encourage anyone to leave PvP2. The fact still remains that gold is easy, XP is hard.
  4. No. You'll still have the rank you've achieved on PvP2, but no assets will be transferred from 2 to 3.
  5. I didn't understand the usage of the term "blew up". Yes, that's what happened - a ship exploded too close to you and killed all of your crew, that insta-captures your ship.
  6. You have a fine point about AFKs. I know the Dev team is currently working hard on that feature. Is it 300-400 people? I don't know, possibly. No. There is a HUGE difference between taking a backup of the game database, and restoring it to a new, fresh machine and what you're asking. Trying to "merge" database records while remapping keys, having assets "locked away" in ports you don't even own on that server, etc. is a giant mess that is best avoided. In my career, I have merged databases a few times, and short of playing massive games with key values and whatnot, it's often far more trouble than it's worth.
  7. 2 crew is odd. Next time, please F11 right after it happens.
  8. The Yacht was the pre-order bonus. The Renomee, Niagara, and Pickle BP were awarded for logging in and helping to test the servers just prior to Early Access. The Yacht can not be crafted or redeemed by anyone not authoritized, the EA Test bonuses can be obtained via the open market or crafted.
  9. You leave the battle at that point (if there are no other surviving enemies) and can the on dispose of the ship and its cargo.
  10. No. Guilds are unique to each server. Hopefully soon. There are, of course, some pressing issues that have cropped up when EA launched.
  11. The surrender mechanic is currently "orphaned". The original reason it was created was deprecated with some earlier mechanic changes. We're hopeful the implementation of officers, and MAYBE crew xp down the road might return a reason for you to fire a couple of broadsides and then surrender rather than just fighting it out to the death.
  12. 1. If you choose to take control from the battle end screen, you can then send the ship you were sailing back to your outpost. You can then sail the captured ship somewhere and sell the cargo, or what have you. 2. Keep it all. The Contraband mechanic is to provide fun targets for newer players (and some of us older players who can't resist free loot). 3. You can't have them both at the same time. After you've captured the ship (you don't have to hit X, just win the boarding), if you're the last person in the instance, you can then leave and will have the option to dispose of your newly boarded ship as I mentioned in number 1. If others are in the instance, or there are still enemies, things get a little more complex. 4. It's not a waste. The remaining crew are gone. It's good to soften up a target with grape before boarding, it saves you time and makes the boarding combat more likely to succeed since you outnumber your foe.
  13. He doesn't need to know the particulars, see the below post from Admin: Do not shoot greens. I don't care what they've done to you, you do not shoot greens. If someone has violated the rules, you screenshot them doing so and put it into a Tribunal thread.
  14. Go to the shop, select the cannon tab, and then look just below it - you'll see tabs labelled with Class 4, Class 5, etc. That is the "Class" of the Cannon, not the LB's. As Mr. Paul mentioned, each deck has two brackets of numbers, for example [8-9][7-9]. The first bracket is for cannon, the second is for carronades. So a ship with the numbers I just listed could equip any cannon that has a class of 8 or 9, and any carronade that has a class of 7, 8, or 9. It's a touch funky, but better than it used to be, when you just randomly slapped cannon on until they stuck.
  15. Only if you logged into that particular server before the deadline.
  16. There is currently a bug in missions that allows other players that are not in your group to get into them. The bug is slated for a fix soon. This is not currently against the rules, so I'm locking this thread. We apologize for the inconvenience, and suggest finding a more remote port from which to run missions to avoid interference.
  17. Yes. I believe friendly damage doesn't exist on the PvE server to avoid griefing/trolling.
  18. The game is not optimized yet, but 35fps is pretty good really. You might want to go down to High, or at least turn off anti-aliasing in the game - it'll still look great but you'll get the better FPS you're looking for.
  19. This is patently against the rules. If you have screenshots of this action, please submit them to a new Tribunal thread. If not, get screenshots next time and the offender will find themselves starting at 0xp.
  20. The capacity of the server is hardware related. It's not a situation where they can simply press a button and dial up a higher capacity, it's restricted by the hardware itself. I can not personally reveal the exact limitation, but it does not involve throwing more or faster at it. It was, however, set a little lower than the theoretical maximum to ensure stability over the weekend. The developers will be slowly raising the overall capacity of the PvP1 until they find the actual stable player limit this week. It is a top priority, but it is not something that is quickly or easily fixed. Thank you for your patience.
  21. Considering how fast time runs in OW, I'm not sure that noise wouldn't get a bit repetitive and annoying. Maybe add it as an option?
  22. The Renommee is craftable I believe. If you'd like one, contract with a crafter in a week or two. Niagara, I'm not sure if she's in the crafting list or not, but she isn't meant to be a ship that was only for certain people either - I have a feeling if you want her you could also contract with a crafter. Currently, the only actual limited edition ship in the game is the Yacht.
  23. There is currently a dicsussion already running on the map. Please submit your comments and ideas here: http://forum.game-labs.net/index.php?/topic/8848-a-simple-navigational-aid/ Or here: http://forum.game-labs.net/index.php?/topic/8649-map-tracking/ Thank you!
  24. After seeing the mess that having a 4k capable machine made on my work laptop, with all kinds of different games, productivity programs, etc, I made the conscious decision to get a 1080p gaming laptop. It's just far easier to not have to worry about tiny interfaces and other messes. I think 4k is still a little ahead of its time.
  25. Unfortunately, there is no tool the Devs can easily use to restore nationality at this time.
