AFK kick while sailing
Henry d'Esterre Darby replied to beagleplease's topic in Patch Feedback and General discussions
If you're never changing course at all, I can understand the propensity to kick. I would think, in half an hour, you'd at least change course once or twice as the wind came around from ahead. -
If someone is intentionally denying you boarding or interfering with same, screen shot and use Tribunal. Take enough screen shots that it's obvious what they're doing. In my personal opinion, intentionally ramming a friendly with a mind to prevent them from boarding is green on green damage and should be actionable. If they're shooting your target despite you asking them to stop, well, that's unfortunate. There is no current rule against that. Port Battles are not meant to be dominated by a single group. Do your best to get everyone in, but be aware that everyone has the right to access content and some of you may not get in. In that case, use the extras to deny potential defenders access to the instance by blockading it. There's more than one thing that needs to be done, and a coordinated group should be able to find more roles than just being inside the battle. Going to a port battle is not griefing, they're open to everyone. Kick buttons, as mentioned, are too open to abuse.

If the planking state has been reduced to zero, the ship will flood. Remove the people pumping, and the ship will sink. If you've shot it all to heck and then board it and carry it, it can sink nearly instantly. Try to leave at least a sliver of planking on all sides if you're going to board. That extra little bit means the difference between flooding and floating.

I don't have hard numbers, but here's the gist: Gunnery - Faster reload, ship max speed and turning abilities reduced, leak patching time greatly increased, no water pumped out, fires spread. Sailing - Faster maximum ship speed, faster turning, reload reduced, leak patching time greatly increased, no water pumped out, fires spread. Survival - Slower reload, slower ship speed, slower ship turning, leaks are patched faster, water is pumped out of the ship, fires are eventually put out (if possible). Boarding - (Assuming here) - Slower reload, slower ship speed, leak patching time greatly increased, no water pumped out, fires spread, slower ship turning, crew more likely to be killed by enemy grape shot, boarding preparation (used to execute commands in a boarding action) slowly increases towards 100.

You said you "put it on your ship". Did you put it in your ship in port? Or just in the after battle screen?

Emergency hot fix deployed
Henry d'Esterre Darby replied to admin's topic in News Announcements & Important discussions
Those rumors were false. Everything is logged, and all incidents of usage of the exploit were reported to the developers. This is not how it works. If you find an exploit that will benefit you (say, you click things a certain way and XP magically appears, or you can duplicate a ship or item without going through the market or crafting, or what have you) and you use this exploit repeatedly, or tell friends so that they can use it repeatedly - this is patently against the rules. Anyone finding such an issue MUST report it immediately to the Developers and stop using it. Abusing exploits will not be tolerated - you risk having your assets and progressed wiped if you abuse an exploit. -
More Port Slots?
Henry d'Esterre Darby replied to Easyseal's topic in Patch Feedback and General discussions
Please see: http://forum.game-labs.net/index.php?/topic/8655-remove-dock-ship-number-limitation-for-capital The word dock was used instead of port, I had to dig to find it myself. Locking this post as a duplicate. -
Change Character Name
Henry d'Esterre Darby replied to Zaithe's topic in Current Feature Improvement Suggestions
There are currently no easy ways for the developers to do this. Down the road, they may develop a tool to do it easily, but for now, work on the core mechanics continues. -
Jan. 26, 2016 patch makes game unplayable
Henry d'Esterre Darby replied to Farwalker2's topic in Support
Thanks for reporting a potential issue - I'm glad it wasn't a serious bug. I mash keys all the time in battle, only to look down in confusion and see I'm at less than full sails with DEPOWER showing. Duhhhhh... Going to lock this so there's no confusion that it's an issue that requires Developer attention. -
Because you'll knock a hole or two in your bow, lose armor you'll need for the fight, and then have to go into survival mode for a number of minutes until the leaks are fixed and the flooding goes down, reducing your ability to fight. And in all likelihood, the pickle will not be sunk. Instead, veer a little towards the Pickle's stern, let him pass by you, and then rake him as you go by with your 32lb carronades, making for an extremely bad day on his part and sail away smiling like a boss.

Jan. 26, 2016 patch makes game unplayable

T removes jibs and staysails, which can result in speeds like you have mentioned. The lack of them may also cause slower turning in circumstances where your bow is falling off the wind. -
You can't just mirror once a day, unless you want all the progress on one server or the other to be lost. A mirror is just that - an exact copy of something. If you mirror once per day from 1 to 3, then anything anyone did on 3 that day is gone. What you're proposing is a merge - this is not easily done, especially not on a large scale. Imagine the conflicts that would occur.

The key is to disallow behavior that is so toxic that you start losing large numbers of players. If game mechanics can be exploited in a way that is extremely unfun, then rules will be implemented until those mechanics can be changed.

Lock PVP1 for new accounts
Henry d'Esterre Darby replied to SKurj.'s topic in Current Feature Improvement Suggestions
I still disagree with this idea, for exactly the reason mentioned above. -
Who is going to pay real money for a ship that they'll lose in 5 durabilities though? Larger ships will likely have longer reset times before you can get it again. In the end, someone has to pony up cash to keep the lights on and the servers running, otherwise you'll have a bunch of people yelling that they spent $40 on a game that's not online any more.

Headstart ships - Guide!
Henry d'Esterre Darby replied to admin's topic in News Announcements & Important discussions
Alpha Testers (prior to EA) were promised the Yacht, which they have received. There were no additional promises that I recall being made. -
Warning - Friendly Kill Threshold
Henry d'Esterre Darby replied to admin's topic in Tribunal - Трибунал
If your XP is reset, you're the bottom level again and have to earn every last bit of rank/XP back. You're busted back to a Basic Cutter and can't sail any of your nice ships until you've ground all the way back up to them. Asset resets may also occur, I'm not sure. -
naming ships

No more hard wipes. A hard wipe is defined as starting with absolutely nothing. Rank XP is now permanent (bear in mind, however, that rank requirements may change if they need to - which means you'd retain the XP, but your rank might change). Wipes of assets, crafting XP, etc. will only happen if there is a large scale change to a related feature.

I think over time you'll see the activity levels balance out. Initially the locations were dropped with the idea that it would "balance" players on the various servers based on ping and not location. For now, the players are still figuring out what they like/want to do, and I think you'll see lateral movement here and there as time goes on. PvP1 was crowded initially because of all of the great Alpha Testers who have gotten to know one another and wanted to keep that dynamic going. We're used to fighting each other, we have rivalries, and we wanted to keep our friends. We're used to the mechanics and meta-game and therefore fight more and at different times than players who are new. Newer players, as they figure out the meta and how things work, will begin to get more aggressive as they get more comfortable and you'll see that reflected on servers 2 and 3. Even worse knowing where the line is. You could jump just the other side of it and slip past another squadron, who, to stop you, must split themselves in half to cover both sides. It's not as easy as you think. I like that the community is applying their brains to helping to fix the issue, though. Please keep thinking! I believe everyone involved would rather see a completely unified server as long as it didn't negatively impact th game's goals.
