Labour Hours rework idea.
Hethwill, the Red Duke replied to Shifters's topic in Current Feature Improvement Suggestions
I hope the current system is simply a placeholder and that those hours in the future translate into Manufactoring power in game hours ( tied to Manufacturing plants and shipwrights levels ) and costs involved with the manpower. If not I agree that a highly regarded crafter ( high level ) would attract more manpower to work on his/her projects and therefore provide more manpower hours. -
Is this game EVE?
Hethwill, the Red Duke replied to Ruthless4u's topic in Patch Feedback and General discussions
As in Extremely Vivid and Elegant ? Yes. -
Limiting numbers per nation is not an option. Keep all ports open at all times by default, have the Conquest Flags price be dynamic - keep the 600k base price plus XXX gold to open different BR levels ( 2000 BR Fleet, 3000 BR Fleet, etc. ) Defender must match the attacking BR plus the port defenses bonus. For the Defender establish the Allied Force flag with a price tag, where allied nations can join the battle but never number more than the total number of ships of the Defending nation in battle. For example if Spain brings 8, an ally can bring 8. If they only bring 5, ally can only bring 5. Technically this doubles their population when it comes to port battles without interfering directly with the normal conduct of nation business. Obviously this mechanic works with all nations. Coming late Spring we will have new ports layouts to test so that might be covered with the extremely strong defenses.

All in all I do not see anything I dislike. Looking forward to the changes especially on the combat side of things. The repairs cooldown is a great "return" and the crew focusing seems like a great addition, probably my favourite of the list. As said above having the trader names listed might open way to the dark side of the human psyche, maybe let it be a show name yes/no option.

Yes. Prime time is always full of port battles for those that enjoy the trafalgar conga lines and flotillas all around here and there deep into the night. Not that many sinkings are done in the screening and flotilla chases but a lot of damage is done, some captures here and there as well. Many good players with excellent manual control but majority is still low in the learning curve and already packing frigates and above...

That's because this is a prototype. Please do not see it as anything resembling the future model. Other thing is not everyone wants to be in a ship of the line and not everyone wants to enter port battles and pvp is not limited to port battles and these actually should be the rare pvp occasions. Small skirmishes and chance encounters should be the norm, but are they ?... From this 3 conclusions I do say that the construction of anything from a frigate up was indeed massive undertaking and cost back in the day something like 150 thousand sterling. Today money... yeah go check the conversion. We still don't have that in game so far but it is of no great concern at the moment. Let the development flow.

Cerb or Surprise
Hethwill, the Red Duke replied to GenTech's topic in Patch Feedback and General discussions
Cerberus is a demanding mistress and a excelent entry choice to bigger vessels if you already have a keen interest in manual control. Requires a bit more attention to detail and sail position and one of those ships where manual decidedly shines over auto. It may not have an extremely good top speed but its ability to pick up wind when needed is one of its best qualities IMO. Does not sail good close haul but has a nice through wind tack if timed correctly ( which I keep messing at times... ugh ). Take both if funds allow. -
As the slots are limited to 25 it is the intention of the admiral in charge of the attack to bring as much firepower as possible, at the stage we are 3rd Rates and Constitutions. Basically for a while he wants to make sure all possible of those enter and then after they taken up slots the rest go in. The blockades are a interesting thing because of the tag and couter tag but because of the nature of free cutters it can be a bit annoying given it could result in interesting skirmishes, which happens at times, but most of the time is used as time waster for the big fellows until the countdown to enter the port battle ends and it gets inaccessible. Also the Reinforcement ability adds a lot of mess to this especially when two ports from two warring nations are close by. So to answer your question, the requirements are two fold, game wise as in dep and shallow ship models and meta gaming wise where the admiral decides which ships he wants in the line.

First of all not everyone wants a bigger ship. For a start that is a wrong perception on your part sir. Second, the fleet system exists after rank 3. What changes is that you cannot hire more, so you have to live with what you got ( 5 durability each fleet ship can turn into a 15 ships reserve at your side forever, literally ). Second, and this is my stance for PvP servers, fleets should never ever be enabled on a Port Battle by default, being disabled automatically.

Trade Chat
Hethwill, the Red Duke replied to Ankarström's topic in Current Feature Improvement Suggestions
Given trade can only be conducted in the same port what is the purpose of added channels ? Just travel to one of the Free and Neutral and announce it on the city chat channel. There you go, international trade enabled. -
Bullying and Abuse?

Lack of proper conduit is like old hardware. It cannot be expected to run a game like this. -
battle connecting problem,battle disconnect
Hethwill, the Red Duke replied to TheBigEpick's topic in Support
Proper damage to gun carriages was reviewed for this last hotfix which from what I noticed returned to appropriate results of damage done to them. -
BR should be Captain Rank/Vessel Rate combination with penalty regarding under 100%. Appliable to Port Battles only mind you so there is no exploit of this in OW. Also, sorry for this, block any Freebies from going to it. A non-free 7th rate is cheap enough. Regarding PB blockades, no ship with a BR of half or less of the intended target can interdict. It is a cheap exploit of the gap in the mechanics sending out fishermen hordes to blockade ( by wasting time... ) warships. The opposite does not apply.

Rolling Front vs Rolling Back (Tutorial)
Hethwill, the Red Duke replied to Ned Loe's topic in Guides - development forum
Rolling back is highly efficient when following a turn ahead and the target gets inside the turn. Also highly effective when extending from a head wind turn you don't want to follow. -
Estimate your distance by masts height. Practice with different models and with different gun types. Do not rush through ships without handling this "little" detail. It will be vital at any level, at any model. Once you get it you will be able to move around more confident and deliver your broadsides with efficiency without having to align everytime for ranging shots ( opening yourself for too long to a competente enemy player or high rank AI ) Once you get the hang of it [space] ranging shots will be almost useless and you will be able to concentrate more on the fine details of manual sailing. - Second, this is a personal thing, use unlocked no range. The guns will align in full pattern for sequential fire much better.

PVP / battle based missions
Hethwill, the Red Duke replied to IronClaw's topic in Current Feature Improvement Suggestions
Fine ideas but doesn't really add anything that one can't do at the moment. Gather buddies and sail out harassing enemy nation player traffic. AI will never be a challenge and pvp combat yields good xp and gold and other goodies like upgrades, etc, which you can't have while battling AI. Missions are secondary if enemy sails are spotted on the horizon. -
High GPU temperature only in this game.
Hethwill, the Red Duke replied to GuillePtZ's topic in Support
Interesting. I have nothing even remotely close to that with my ATI. Also I never ever OC any components. I setup my own airflow from leftovers. 3 12 inches fans together ( turbine, all 3 same model for rotation synch ) intake, a 20 on the side and another 2 12 on the back. Not a dime spent. -
Rough Seas in combat
Hethwill, the Red Duke replied to Duskguy's topic in Current Feature Improvement Suggestions
If anything historically credible captains and crews would be way more concentrated in keeping the ships afloat than worrying about the enemy. But in trials was somewhat fun. The battle last two or three times more though. Unsure if I would even fight through them in OW. I would simply sail away best I could. The waves are big enough to rock hard a 1st rate. -
Clan tags on Open World
Hethwill, the Red Duke replied to Bigvalco's topic in Current Feature Improvement Suggestions
Indeed we do have the tags inside the battles and it is a great sight to see organized fleets arrayed for battle or even small flotillas engaging wherever they meet. As we all first and foremost chose a nation to play for I guess the clan is simply a "regional" thing. Not opposed to it just stated opinion as any other player. What is the real problem of not having them displayed in the OW ? If anything in neither benefits nor prejudices the gameplay ( except maybe for some feuds that may escalate quickly ). Quite trivial choice.- 32 replies

Manual rank-up
Hethwill, the Red Duke replied to Aubrey's topic in Current Feature Improvement Suggestions
Some of the missions are inaccessible after a certain rank ? Even in a group you get left out IIRC ... ((( or is it the BR ? )))
