  1. Yes, I like this, to know what quantities are need of whatever resources and manufactured goods without even being a crafter myself.
  2. How can a non grouped friendly enter a Mission !? I wonder if it is not simply a normal battle and not a Mission.
  3. *sigh*.... ... in the meanwhile the "2nd class citizens" of the Spanish Empire have been left aside in all the talks because... they are not spanish... Did I guess right ? Get over national ideas. It is simply a faction in a game based in history.
  4. Your steam account is your player account. You can play one character per server in any faction you wish. You can change faction in any one server by deleting the character and creating a new.
  5. IIRC ranks are to be reviewed soon with new xp values and intermediate ranks.
  6. Crafting Notes simulate ship plans, parts plans, and so on. Breaking down ships and overall constructing them is effectively the best way to make them work, although the mechanics ruling them is still under development as you well know, after all we might be in EA but is still Alpha revision phase for all mechanics. I don't really see the connection of getting a engineering asset through fighting mostly BUT it can be done with the tokens idea to simulate looting ship and captain's documentation. Collect them and "craft" a crafting note.
  7. IIRC it is 240 men in the tower. 70 of them are marines and 140 of them have muskets. The other 30 might be just kitchen petty officers and personnel.
  8. Yep, saw a buddy go off like that in his Mercury in the most silly combat situation. AI fleets attacked us and BAM as he was being bracketted between a lynx and a privateer. Was quite horrendous. He was unsure if he had the fire but for a tiny fraction of a moment he heard the bell...
  9. So far the players from the French Nation I had the pleasure of chatting, those that use english that is, with were extremely educated and gallant during the stress of battle. A very good impression and an example to the community.
  10. Flamigant has it right regarding the Dutch pvp1. It is nice to see the population intervene when someone is going off rail with their common sense and vocabulary selection. Obviously the high testosterone teenage sexual innuendos happen now and then but are not offensive. Also have not note any racist comments in there. The Ducth Nation in NA is probably the most cosmopolitan and truly international. If you ever consider defecting, please consider the career opportunities offered by the United Provinces both in military and trade companies. Oh.... and Tax free !
  11. I might be wrong but my perception is that part of the crew is outfitted as marines, therefore taking away manpower from the batteries. It does not add crew.
  12. Roger that. Old trials dog dies hard. Had the impression it stopped shooting but it might have been the fog of war.
  13. And still no one get in a group to hunt him down, right ? Better to "cry out on the nation chat" and hope someone does something about it. Sorry for being blunt but see the "let's hope someone else deal with it" part everyday
  14. You know you can board the towers right ? They will cease to fire until combat is done. Be ready to face 70 marines and 140 muskets.
  15. Good gathering of thoughts. I enjoy NA for its simple rules but complex gameplay. Pretty much like a air combat sim but with wooden ships and iron guts. There is always something more to learn. There is not end to it. And in all honesty the game is not that demanding in time. A corsair going about his way under a national flag can effectively do its share outside the big fleet actions and, time allowing, get into a shallow port defense now and then. Rank is so subjective it almost hurts more than not. It gives away nothing about the quality of the player behind the title and the same goes to the ship. And here in lies many folks mistake... the bigger the ship the harder it gets.
  16. More this, round shot bouncing along the gallery, than the leaks if a high stern is destroyed. A low stern like a brig, privateers, etc might indeed suffer more water in with the rolling waves.
  17. Maybe some of them are unassailable... just like IRL. Out of my mind I can remember Lisbon. It would've been a nightmare for any fleet with an alabor fort right in the middle of the sand banks with all the star coastal forts with guns funneling down the coast. An enemy fleet would either run the gauntlet or try one by one while being crossfired all the time. Check Port Royal. http://www.britishempire.co.uk/images2/portroyal1774map.jpg Count the amount of guns the port defense has plus their positioning. ( c'mon spring come faaaast )
  18. A hint. You can press Attack again to reset the timer to 20 secs again. This is highly useful if the position is not ideal for you so it makes pursuits easier right from the start.
  19. It matters when we all start a new map and a nation has 100 ports and only 20 players for example. Or only 1 port but 500 players. It is not balanced for both scenarions, number of ports and population.
  20. I dislike any ship bigger than a Frigate myself. That is reason enough for me. Thanks for not including us all in that post.
  21. You cannot simply single out the "ganking" as the trigger for a renewal of the system I guess. It must be something else as well and as it is now it is a lack of risk management when going out into the open. Sometimes the "social solutions" are better than hoping for a development cycle. The sea gods forbid play with other players ( or other people! ) in a multiplayer game. Even a trader on a contracts run can easily ask for a couple guys to join up and help against any problem that might occur. hoarmurath, whatever you want to call it. The choice is yours alone.
  22. Yes. It is a work in progress Keep rolling your vision and the inclusion of reasonable suggestions.
