There are many hardcore players out there not saying "if you don't like it the way it is then leave" but rather "you can also do it this way, like this or if it is not suitable you can also try this way". The wipe is certainly beneficial in ways to look completely anew to the game and not be tied to old habits. That's my opinion on how challenging it can be at times.

Last raid we did, just now ( really epic fights thanks to the pirates ) was right in front of Little Inagua fighting under the tower guns, using good ol' schooners, privateer and pickle. Two Trader Brig player fleet escorted by a cutter. We made the first half, taking the prizes and sinking the cutter but getting pretty mauled by the towers and cutter combined. Now... taking the prized loot and ships back safe to port is another story BLACK responded quickly and had a good chain deployed, catching one of the schooners while other got away. Very jolly and dandy

I would play a sequence of docking, having to navigate treacherous port shallows in a skiff or launcher or even having to take the schooner up bays. Like TransOcean dockings but way better of course.
