Redeemable Ships Question
Anolytic replied to Stardog765's question in Feature proposals and Gameplay Help Q&A
You will still be able to craft the Trader brig later. If you redeem the ship you can never redeem it again on the same server. If you later delete your character you will have to ask someone to hold onto it for you and give it back after. If you did not redeem the ship before deleting your character, you will still have the redeemable on the new character you create (I just tested this). You can redeem it both on the PvE and both of the PvP-servers. Servers are no longer synchronised, so anything you do on one server is not reflected on the others. -
pvpeu [PvPEU] The St. Croix Royal Gazette - Issue 2, July 15th
Anolytic posted a topic in Caribbean News
Issue#2: July 15th (click the pictures and select fullscreen to enlarge) Issue#1: May 24th This is the inaugural issue of The St. Croix Royal Gazette. (click the pictures and select fullscreen to enlarge) It is my attempt at creating a role-play newspaper for the PvP EU server with help from @Cornelis Tromp. The newspaper will contain Naval Action news, role-play, advertisements, historical references and any other content that I deem fitting. I will try to keep this newspaper going for a long time, and to keep it regularly updated. I will not commit to a specific timetable for delivery of issues however. My goal is to keep the newspaper especially apprised of RvR developments. While the title of the paper suggest the Danish connection, I hope that it will be a worthwhile read for any captain of any nation in Naval Action. Anyone on the server are welcome to request the placement of advertisements in the Gazette. You can design your advertisement yourself, or I can do it to your specifications. Advertisements could be for selling items in-game, offering services, looking for a clan or a clan recruiting members. Anything you could think of that is game-related. The Newspaper title and design is strongly inspired by the historical Danish West Indies newspaper «The St. Croix Gazette», briefly named the «The Royal St. Croix Gazette». It was also published for a time under the name «Dansk Vestindisk regierings Avis». For a long time it was named the «Royal Danish-American Gazette». To avoid confusion with the same role-play newspaper by @Niels Terkildsen I chose a different name. You can find his great Newspaper here: It is what I try to emulate and aspire towards. I am attempting to mix historical accuracy, role-play and game-references. None of which will be fully accurate nor is that the intention. I will try to adopt a somewhat realistic language of the period, though this is a very tough challenge that hopefully I can aspire towards as I get more experience creating new issues. For my Newspaper I chose to use a 220 year date conversion. A bonus from this is that the weekdays in the year 1797 correspond exactly to the days of the week in 2017. This first issue is meant to play on the fact of today’s wipe. Therefore several references are made to it. I use the metaphor of a Hurrican hitting the Caribbean to this effect. To reinforce this I have printed a copy of a letter from the American statesman and Founding Father Alexander Hamilton. He grew up in the West-Indies, and he lived in St. Croix part of the Danish West Indies when a terrible hurricane hit the islands in 1772. He wrote a letter which was printed in the Royal Danish-American Gazette, and caused the merchants of Christianstæd to take up collection to send the young boy to the American colonies to get an education. There he became one of the most important figures in American history. I hope that you will enjoy reading my newspaper. I will keep this topic and OP updated with all the issues I produce. You are welcome to subscribe to the topic. Any contributions are also welcomed. Also feedback and tips on improvements.- 3 replies

Are you sure that you synced your account recently on all servers? If you played on PvP2 before and then switched to PvP1 before you got to max rank, and haven't synced since, that would explain the discrepancy.
-
Tested now to confirm. Since I hadn't redeemed anything I was able to delete my character and recreate it in a new nation and with a new name. And I had all of my redeemables after doing that.
-
The minimum rank requirement for recruits seeking commission with RDNN has been temporarily suspended.
-
A bit disappointed clans and usernames weren't wiped... We needed to recreate our clan with a new clan leader and some people were planning to change character names. If we delete our character before redeeming any of the redeemables. Do we keep all of them? If you delete your character to switch nation the old fashioned way I think you won't need to use your forged papers. But haven't tested that yet.

That's a lot of patch notes. Will study them all in detail while waiting for the servers to finish updating.
-
If the game enters real hardcore mode.
-
Problem with not giving updates before they're ready to deploy is that before they announced the wipe, people had been complaining loudly for months about there being no updates to the live servers. It's impossible to make us all happy, so they stick to a communication strategy and take the heat for that rather than for something else.
-
Ever wondered why it's called the "West Indies"? While we are waiting to discover and explore the wonders of new lands and seas after the wipe-patch, I thought to share a laugh in the tavern over this old gem by Mitchell & Webb:

Global or European
Anolytic replied to Duncan McFail's topic in Patch Feedback and General discussions
Didn't vote. Do we really need another stupid thread like this? Just a few more days till the wipe. Let the numbers speak for themselves then. We won't get anything out of polling or discussing this in the forum. Most players aren't on the forums. And moreover the forum is mainly used by players who have an advanced or native level of English and are not at all representative of the general population in this matter. I for one hope that both servers will be well populated. It's not like the servers will be shutting down outside of RvR-windows. A lot of players log into the game to do short trade-runs in the morning before they go to work. And RvR is only a part of what this game contains.-

The jumping ship (usually in OW), catching up and then slowing down, happens to me only when there's a ping-issue. When my ping is unstable I get that too, and it's synchronised more or less with how my ping jumps up and down. I did my tests and recorded my video after downloading the latest nVidia-driver.

PvP XP and gold -rewards balance
Anolytic replied to Anolytic's topic in Patch Feedback and General discussions
In the PvE-battle we were 3 1st rates against 1 Ingermanland and 1 Essex. In the Port Battle we were 7 Victories and 2 frigates against 9 Victories if I remember correctly. We didn't get any conquest marks since we didn't capture the port. Only PvP-marks. We could have won the battle if not for dual-boxing and me overcommitting in an attempt to protect someone's side and getting stuck in between the enemy line and a big fort. I did go out with a boom though, and knocked the masts off 2 Vics and half the crew off a third one. -
Logged out Automatically
Anolytic replied to Anolytic's topic in Forum and website problems and improvements
This issue is persistent despite having tried various attempts at finding solutions. It seems the forum is not allowing me more than one simultaneous session. So if I log in on one device I am logged out on all the others. The issue is the same across browsers, Operating Systems, devices and physical locations. -
PvP XP and gold -rewards balance
Anolytic replied to Anolytic's topic in Patch Feedback and General discussions
PvE-rewards could probably be doubled, but PvP-rewards should be higher for an assist on a player ship than the PvE-reward for getting a kill on the same rate. i.e getting an assist on a player connie should give more XP/gold than getting the kill on an NPC connie. -
The rewards for PvP on the testbed are too low relative to PvE. After a port battle yesterday on the testbed server these were my rewards: The second entry is from attacking an AI fleet where I killed an Ingermanland and probably got an assist sinking an Essex. From this I got 300 XP. The last entry is from the port battle where I got 2 assists on 1st rates. I got less XP from this PvP-battle than from the PvE. The guy who hawked all the kills in the battle from our side also got very low rewards. I don't remember the exact amounts. ( @balticsailor ) These reward levels don't add up to me. With this, PvP is heavily discouraged rather than encouraged. PvE will bring much higher rewards to someone who is grinding, at a fraction of the risk. Anyone intent on ranking up will have to do so by grinding PvE however hard it is to find. Fair enough, maybe, that you only get rewards for ships that sink, but then you have to actually get some reward for sinking ships. If this is not a bug, both money and XP rewards for sinking player ships should be significantly buffed it seems to me.

Okay, So I’ve been doing a bit of naval photography on the live server while waiting for the wipe and I’ve come across a couple of things. They are both shown in the recording below. The first issue is ships that are jerking rather than rolling on the waves when laying still or rolling sideways in the waves. As you can see below, my Santa Cecilia is laying still, but its movements in response to the waves are jerky rather than smooth. I thought that this might be to do with lag, ping or my computer, but I had steady ping and 55-60 FPS the whole time, and I tested and reproduced it on two computers. I also have at least one friend who confirms the same issue. Further indicating that it is not simple lag is the fact that if you look closely, there is no corresponding jerking motion in the rest of the scene. The waves on the water move smoothly. It is just the ship that can’t keep up it appears. First time I observed it I thought it had to do with that I had sailed too far into the shallows at the beach, but I tested it in deeper water too. Second observation. When pointing the free camera straight down, it will rotate slightly without any input. You can see it quite clearly in the video where I am looking straight down at a pier in a harbour. Appart from the slight jerk in the video just when I let go of the mouse the rotation is all without any input. Since the camera cannot be pointed absolutely straight down this messes with my camera aim when looking from above and recording something. It’s not a huge deal, but for the particular shot I was trying to record, it made it impossible. I have reproduced this too on two different computers. I have not fully tested it yet, but I have an unconfirmed suspicion/theory that this effect is more evident when camera is facing from north to south than south to north. If that is the case I might be able to circumvent the issue by rotating my video 180 degrees after recording it. Recording:

There's lots of PvP on the test-bed despite low numbers. Why give up on the game before we even see what the wipe will bring? The game has taken a long step in a direction. The things/mechanics that have been taken too far for the game to be generally enjoyable you can demonstrate after the wipe happens and they can be adjusted in whatever direction is needed. Also, what happened to the landlubbers' corner?

The Port Battle Blockade Idea
Anolytic replied to Norfolk nChance's topic in Current Feature Improvement Suggestions
I only pointed to the player-only-driven economy because it needs to be clear that your proposal presumes a system that is different from what we appear to be getting after the wipe. To your actual points, while I think that some of the details of your suggestion needs to be thought through more, I do think that the general concept is both interesting and based on sound logic. To your point about player-driven economy I do not want to commit either way. I wish to test the economy that devs have prepared for us, but I am not convinced that in the long run we won't need more NPC input to affect the dynamic of the economy. At that point your suggestion is worth looking into as part of that input (of course that does not mean I want to dismiss your proposal until such a time or don't want to discuss and explore your proposal already now given the prerequisites). -

Only reinforcing the point that you shouldn't build production in border regions though. Most people who make that consideration will not be affected. -
The Port Battle Blockade Idea
Anolytic replied to Norfolk nChance's topic in Current Feature Improvement Suggestions
It's not a bad idea, but I don't think it fits with player-driven-only economy. Which is what we are supposed to get after the wipe. When most goods are not sold or purchased by NPC, then players determine the prices, and they cannot be engineered to increase by 25% like you suggest. -
We’ve been discussing multiple times that OW needs more content. Many proposals have been made. Among them exploration mechanics and more. I really hope that we do get some sort of exploration mechanic that works. I am sceptical of anything that forces AFK-time, but there are other ways of implementing it. I would here like to add some other proposals for content that can be easily added to OW. Feel free to supplement your own proposals below here. My main proposal is the removal of sealed bottles as they work work now. Instead of sealed bottles being something that you pick up while AFK-sailing, take back to port and open up. Make wrecks something that you encounter in open world directly, and something that you should keep a lookout for while sailing. They could spawn in busy sea lanes to increase the chances of players encountering each other while looking for them, or they could be placed a bit further from the coasts to encourage sailing around more in deep waters. As they are now, sealed bottles have a enable minimum OW time. When you pick up a wreck, players plot the most direct course on the map to the wreck and back again. With minimal time in OW and minimal chance of PvP. With wrecks spawning directly in OW along your course, players will have to be on the lookout for them, and have to sail around searching for them, risking PvP. Wrecks could spawn either dependent on the player, so that only the player can see and pick up the wrecks spawned for him, or they can be universal like epic events, and everyone can see the same events and race to loot them. If we still want to have some sort of sealed bottles in the game, then I recommend bringing back the random ship reports letters that we used to get. Another suggestion is to replace the current epic events with mission markers that spawn in the OW (rather than missions picked up from ports). The markers only spawn along the most busy sea lanes. A player jumps into such a mission. There he faces some AI. However, the «mission» stays open for both side the full length of the battle, and other players sailing along can jump into the battle and make it a PvP fight.

The lack of GPS before we got coordinates on the map and before we started using F11 to get coordinates is part of what I miss the most from when I started playing this game. I would absolutely support nerfing the GPS a bit to make navigation less accurate. Sealed bottles as they are now should be removed. Instead of sealed bottles wrecks should spawn semi-randomly in the OW away from the coast so that you can come across them when you are out sailing. Instead of something that you sail out specifically to get, wrecks should be content you encounter on your sails.
