You misread us a little We showed how we want open world to look (same 3d). Current direction is to have instanced battles (trying to get it to 50 ships). Alternative would be to have shards a-la DayZ (with 50 players in them) but in this case the feeling of vibrant active sea areas would be lost. Current thinking is to provide semi-accurate maps for players for the known areas, but uncharted waters will be more ... uncharted, providing the sense of unknown and the feeling of getting lost. But it could be a fake feature - cos many players will explore and eventually all areas will become known, posted on youtube and forums, rendering it all meaningless. What do you guys think?

Such representation would be good for a strategy game and might suit single player. But in our case we believe it will lack immersion and atmosphere. We are going to have an open map which is more similar to this: Approaching Lisbon http://coub.com/view/1wpjs

we have an alternative theory.. which some might not like remember that at the age of sail - frigates and line ships were the most modern thing that existed on earth, employing best technology of that time. Best most modern watches, best cannons, best most modern (new) maps. we believe that UI should not be done as an old newspaper, (which was a usual way such games were done before)

тест драйв сделать не проблема. тюториал обязательно будет. - чтото вроде морской школы с экзаменами (предложено игроком Sliva). Причем некоторые экзамены обязательно надо будет сдавать в боевых условиях если вы хотите во флот. бесполезного скирмиша не будет

Cтим гринлайт получен. В ближашие 2-3 недели будем решать бухгалтерские вопросы с Valve (Договора и прочее) После этого тестовый клиент будет переведен на стим. По готовности интерфейса (работы над которым начнутся вот вот) мы откроем пре-ордеры.

was just going to post about this! We have got it yesterday evening! Next 2-3 weeks we will be solving some accounting and financial issues with Valve (agreements etc) After that we will receive our Steam ID and will integrate build into the platform After we finish UI work (that is starting soon) pre-orders will be open.

We would like to mention that we avoid the word simulation when describing our game. Usually we say - realistic age of sail combat or action. We are trying to consider all features from the 1000th battle perspective. Interesting mechanics that are adding depth or fun to gameplay are added, but we eliminate features that will just be tedious or boring over the long term.- 121 replies

We are moving to the finalization of the sailing model that will properly recreate the behavior of various sail types (standing sails, spankers, square sails). In this matter we have a question What would be the major differences in behavior at various angles to the wind ? Including backward wind pressure and yard positions for 1 and 2.

красивый бриг. пока заморожен изза оптимизации. приступим снова как пофиксим проблемы с ФПС. пока все на сервере (даже вода и форма волны) - но шаманящие игроки обычно всегда быстрее. задача будет просто нейтрализовать угрозы быстро без вреда игрокам.

fixed some of the bugs in the current system.. will handle better. 2 bugs left (we will fix them next week) that will make it exactly like in RL, simple and understantable we also found (which is surprising) that ship handling became easier with new correct yard systems. ps new build will come out soon

NPC ships will be in the game. We already have some basic bots that will be eventually improved to provide a challenge to a player. PvP will not be forced upon a player in the open world -

properly set up sails don't move in full wind. Sails are moving only when luffing or when not all ropes are connected. tons of visual references + real sailing experience on our team. the particular case of luffing will be impossible to do with high quality ships and sea and crew during 25 v 25 battle with smoke. Unless you want to dish out $3000 on a new video card which will also struggle. so.. You have to pick one thing to look awesome (2 in the best case) - the rest must look mediocre to provide 20+FPS great hulls great sails with movement and luffing fully animated crew everywhere animated gunports, fluid rope, other moving parts (1000+ of gunports during large first rate battle) great looking ocean lots of thick and beautiful smoke awesome terrain with shore waves we picked water and hulls. you can guys influence use to replace hulls and sails with something else.
