Until the move to more historical sail plan based curves? And changes in turning based on hull data? Or until when? -

We did not say it has some good percentages. We said that Rookie brig dies in 30% of battles. We say one thing you understand another. Does it mean it does not really matter what we say and how we say it? Now the general message to veterans To give a better visualization. Players cannot kill a rookie brig in 65% of battles. Or players are able to sink a rookie brig only in 35% of battles. We hope all veterans think hard about this number to see the average player perspective. -

Survivability would be a lot higher if it was as easy as you describe. -

there are exactly 19 ships worse than Hercules in terms of survivability cerberus brig navybrig definitely needs buffs snow is a great example of perception versus data. Lots of players consider snow a great pvp ship. (but its only great for those who use it properly). Overall data says something else. ps. Rookie snow has pvp kills! -

Overall better compared to other 5th rates? LGV refit has a bit lower KD but survives in 1.7X more battles. (requin has less data points thus number is not stabilized). Overall better compared to other 6th rates? lets say Prince? Well yes better by 10%-20%? Maybe prince should be buffed a bit? And couple of 6th rates too. But this also can be also explained by the fact that prince needs to be crafted and less players use it. Current data shows that imported ships are very good but not 5x better as some players say they are. And there are better vessels or similar vessels in terms of performance. Keep in mind that new ships have less data points - so the real average could be seen in another 30 days probably. (Averages might go up over time as well confirming player theory or go down denying it completely). -

hard data (last 90 days) Selections Yellow - 5th rates Orange - 6th rates Definitions Death ratio:Total deaths/Number of battles (all battles) shows the pvp survivability of the vessel out of all battle cases - in what % of battles ship sinks or gets captured interesting tidbit - Rookie brig dies only in 30% of battles PVP ratio: PvP kills/Number of battles show in what % of battles ship gets the pvp kill shows the general preference of the ship for pvp action by pvp players (keep in mind that this number is higher for vessels introduced recently - if this remains high over time the ship could be considered stronger than expected) PVP K/D : PVP Kills/PVP Deaths Shows the the ability to generate pvp kills in battles (more kills than deaths) Should be considered together with general survivability. Keep in mind that newer vessels can have higher K/Ds due to the fact that they new AND often used by fans of the project (who are also often very experienced) in general - lets say in another 2 months the data will stabilize. if survivability of imported ships goes up but k/d and pvp ratio stays the same - they are indeed OP We expect that their survivability will stay the same but their KD and pvp ratios will go down, as players will kill more and more of them. -
Again - lets remove emotions from the conversation. At certain point Newton's gravity was only his opinion and some scientists considered it a slap on the face. Le Requin could be unbalanced and more data will confirm or deny this theory. But saying that Le Requin is pay to win because NO SHIP IN GAME can match it is false and confuses unaware players who come to this forum.
-
Players point balance issues, we only disagree that these balance issues are p2w. Such blanket statements confuse newcomers and general public. Commenters should say what they mean and should not exaggerate as newcomers can assume that NO SHIP (like average first rate) cannot win against average hercules. last balancing has reduced the gap and over next month we will apply more changes based on data some 5th rates should be on par or better some 6th rates should be on par or better the BR issue can be solved too.
-
Its a linguistics, semantics issue i think. Just like @Crow pointed out above. All 4th rates and above destroy it with relative ease. First rates outmatch it by several factors. Some 5th rates have no problems (trincomalee, endymion) You say that NO SHIP can match it - its not true. You mean one thing - (no low level ship can match it in its low level rank), but say another thing: generalize it to ALL ships including ships with 140 guns. You should not provide blanket carpet statements that ALL ships cannot fight them. You should say what you mean: 6th rates are unbalanced, or Nassau patrol has pay 2 win.

The mechanical design of the rig is simple - you have more staysails you lose power in squares. If you have more squares (add them by rig refit) you lose power in staysails. Less flow less wing effect in sails. Thats why some ships are more receptive to certain rig refits (due to their sail plan composition). Xebec does not have any squares - staysail/lateen bonuses shine on this vessel - but it is hard for us to argue with the mechanics.

Scuttling ships to deny them to the enemy happened in history as well. We do not consider this an exploit.

Developers do not close topics or actively moderate discussions here for quite a while (being passionate fans of the age of sail topic its sometimes hard to be neutral - thus we do not allow devs to moderate any more). Moderators (volunteers) do close topics if they are not relevant or for other reasons. Your topic was posted in support section and has no relevance to support issues. Discussions of effects of imported 6th and 5th rates should be done in relevant sections. There are multiple modern definitions of pay 2 win and the usual classic definition is the following: Pay 2 win is when you can buy a strongest item or a consumable for real money and this item is not available by other means and has no real alternatives. If you ONLY can get this advantage by paying real money = this advantage is called pay to win. In the case of imported 6th rates and 5th rates they do not come with mods and upgrades and skill books - you still have to mod them, and you only can acquire those mods/upgrades by playing they have alternatives that you can build or capture there are much stronger ships in game that are crafted (eg. any line ship) imported ships can be received by other means (notes for these ships do drop in epic event loot from time to time) The reason you see a lot of them is just convenience. They are good quality + very convenient. Very experienced captain will sink an average player in almost any ship. With time and practice you will be able to fight off enemies in any ship especially if you have an escort and know how to use it. Overall We do not yet fully uncovered the effects of imported vessels in the game that is why other dlc ships have not been yet added. We still have time Please also follow the forum rules - where respect to other member of the community is n1, and stay on topic.

Wipe on release, 3-4 months?
admin replied to Dibbler (Retired)'s topic in Patch Feedback and General discussions
Rank xp, crafting xp is safe and guaranteed Money, resources, upgrades owned and probably ships will definitely get wiped - some ships might get provided as a head start (including Pandora free DLC) The rest (ship xp, books, skills, etc) wipe status is unknown and will depend on the multiple factors. Expect the worst Date unknown. Localization will take some time as well.- 119 replies

We tried again but ... eh ... bye.
admin replied to Scrouch's topic in Patch Feedback and General discussions
PVE missions are open for the only reason. A lot of players were using them to hide in battles. 3 pvp oriented captains take 3 missions each and voila - they have 9 spots to hide if situations changes not to their favor. In the reinforcement zones however they close immediately. Unless you attack enemy shipping yourself. We have not found a better solution to this problem yet. Its an instanced game and instances come with pros (performance and ability to have large battles on one server) and with cons (time compression and ability to hide in instances). -
Should the admiralty allow SOL to roam freely?
admin replied to hoarmurath's topic in Current Feature Improvement Suggestions
Costs of ships and ships of the line is not final. It is lower for testing. Ships of the line buffs planned and being queens of the sea they will be high maintenance.- 47 replies

we mentioned somewhere above to @Nuka its not the hercules problem its 5th rate vs ships of the line problem. 5th rates already have good fire power and still have high turn rate to make first rates feel helpless (if they dont know what they are doing). We know its an issue but do not have time yet to allocate to work it out (UI takes lots of time) without making 5th rates useless.

It was fitted with 8lb french guns but proportions allow 9lb to be fitted. carronades calibers are theoretical, there is not enough information

we have not missed your point. You just claimed that we have not implemented a single community request in the game. We know community holds us to high standards but should also expect the same in return. We wont tolerate pure lies here.
-
Feedback after fixes should be reviewed in long term. It is never correct on the first day.

Open world itself was a community proposal and it was implemented. This game was originally planned as a lobby shooter with 3 maps (check steam greenlight page). You are literally making up things. Hercules itself was proposed by community. Wasa was proposed by the community. Trading at sea was requested by the community. Are you a hater? Should I remove the hater? He is demotivating the team.
