Port BR's reduction / RvR alliances
Hethwill, the Red Duke replied to OjK's topic in Current Feature Improvement Suggestions
I don't vouch for anything. I look to the bills paid to build both a SOL and a corvette back in the day and give my opinion. At the same time presented enough trade bills to show trade should be, by far FAR FAAAR, the most profitable activity. But hey, it is a game, so not my loot is your loot if you kill me. Your loot is my loot if i ever dare to face your ship of the line. Wouldn't be the first or the last to fall to our unrated ships. Anyway, we both have our distinct jobs and opinions on digital gaming leisure time. Appreciate them the best you can. o7 -

Port BR's reduction / RvR alliances

I don't like big ships. I sailed every single ship extensively during all this time of testing to be able to say which ones I like and not. And anything 64 gun or more is not my cup of tea at all. And yeah, there's small ships port battles for us peasants. Carry on o7 -
A look at Looting in Battle
Hethwill, the Red Duke replied to Anolytic's topic in Current Feature Improvement Suggestions
Cruise Frigates usually carried "nation treasure" with them to purchase whatever necessary, including victuals or bribes for example, in their prolonged journeys. Wasn't captain's cash. Was nation's. It was in a chest in the ship. We don't use that game design. Let's get over it. It is ALL on the captain. Hence dubloons in your private little chest. -
Just a heads-up for those that want to access mission content and at the same time drive nation/clan conquest - pick missions ( like a nice amount of them ) to hunt or search&destroy ships ( whatever rate you want to kill ) - pick hostility missions against your "favourite" nation - go in with your buddies and do the hostility ( will spawn 1 enemy per player ) - fullfilll hostility drive and at the same time fullfill the hunt and search&destroy missions

Sounds good. Given half ( or more than half actually ) of the hold contents get "spilled" and lost due to the sinking the reliance on salvaging seems a good one when you have to remain stationary, simulating launching the skiffs or longboats to get the floating crates. 10 seconds immobile - starts counting from 0.0kn - sounds absolutely reasonable. First 2 minutes seems short. Would lock it to killer ( with the option of make available to all ) during 5 minutes. - regarding the historical comparisons, there's a reason why some individuals were home fleet commanders and others were cruise frigate captains. The amount of loot the second group gained was vastly superior to the first, but the glory and fame was on the hands of the first. So, for best loot you need to raid, not rely on trafalgars. snappy salute. -
Port BR's reduction / RvR alliances

For sure. Can be discussed and it all bears down to how much a clan wants to risk for whatever reward No, it is not cost at all. Even with 1 durability but national level effort there was way more conquest than after focus on clanwars, but you are 100% right - clanwars system solved a lot of the abuses and exploits - that everyone can see if they were around. Don't want to risk ? Sit in your hands. Risk not worth the reward ? Sit in your hands. All comes down to how much you want to Conquer. Don't feel like risking anything ? Sure, let the ships sit in port. ( sorry if you were absent from my gameplay m8 and really sorry for not sending you regular and daily reports of our squadron activities. Actually we never got informed that we must have sent you regular report of our achievements or failures but hey... you are right. I know nothing and shouldn't even dare to post...But we are discussing a game mechanic not players, so I would expect you, myself and everyone else to stick to the game and not the players. Thanks a ton. /sarcasm off ) -

imo, we went the clanwars way. the way many wanted. see where we are. imo with full nation standing behind conquest such state of affairs wouldn't be happening. System must... imho... change. clanwars do not work consistently. -
Cannot say what is wrong. I do sail a lot and visit a lot of ports while hunting for poor traders just wanting to feed their families in the War server. In the Peace server is even easier ( again, I sail a lot ) so i sail for an entire session collecting missions, I have no problems with being interrupted by other players there . Next day I'm ready to start doing them. I'd say the system need tuning regarding the Stars - difficulty.

Sure that's your take on it and I respect it. Kill mission is fixed position, and a certain rate ship - in the case I posted a 4th rate ( last time I did it it was a Ingermanland ). The open world Hunt and Search&D. missions are more fun though, as they can be fulfilled by killing AI or killing players. Plus the added up amount of loot and the final reward make them my favourite. o7

Global warehouse information
Hethwill, the Red Duke replied to Njord's topic in Current Feature Improvement Suggestions
Captain should have his accounting and ledger books in his cabin to consult during his travels. Meaning lists of his/her belongings and contents accessible through Journal while sailing in the Open World. Not interactive, just information. -
As you sail to a frontier area stop by all ports and check missions. You can have a lot of missions. I tend to have 10 Hunt and Search&D in my list. I pick one here and one there as i feel like. Last 3 I added to my list are - 10x Cerberus, 8x Indefatigables, 13x 5th rates - I got 1 in Manataca, another in Ayamonte, another in Dariena. It is impossible that all players stop at all ports at all times. As you sail visit ports and collect missions to do later.
-
Dariena area is frontier for British Empire. Is a good area. Another good option is the West side of Florida, north and south of Tampa. You will sail into french holding in the north and danish and pirate holdings in the south. You will find a lot of AI in those two areas. In Peace server you will be relaxed fighting them. In War server you know there might be players around. As a rule of thumb, the closest to enemy port you are ( frontier ports ) the better it is to find open world enemy NPC.

Ship tow request

To illustrate. See the button is available ( left most in the bottom row ) when totally surrounded by shallows. Gladly the deepest water port was not far away so i got unstuck. -
I said it is a challenge not no problem, but I sail a lot and end up doing progress in a few missions, by NPC and PvP kills count, so eventually they are fulfilled and i can reap the extra rewards. Actually did it yesterday, Lost a captured Diana but managed to board the last AI, a Renomee, so 3 NPC sunk ( Essex, Cerb and Renomee ) and 1 player ship sunk, my Diana. Got to escape the battle in a capture NPC renomee. It is okay can perfectly live with that. I manage my expectations, but sorry for sharing them. Seems i aspire to just enjoy the game without any higher purpose other than experiencing naval action in the grand age of sail. if it is pvp it is, if it comes to just attack a NPC and hear the guns roar, sure thing. I lose a lot of ships btw, not all missions are a success.

I see it this way... have to kill 10 ships.... each one of those has a chance of a good reward, by the end of 10 reward collected i will have the overall reward. Sum it all up and it is a nice cake. That Kill mission greade is really challenging but worth it. In the end the final reward is just a piece, you have to count ALL the possible rewards along the way. Plus for hunt and destroye missions you can do them in PvP kills anyway, so even better. Plus, it is server agnostic. You find these in both War and Peace servers. Let's stop treating Peace relaxed gameplay as a secondary option. It is actually full of people playing and enjoying.
