Ah ! After being drawn away by other projects ( for an year almost ! ) I knew I missed the unique smell of gunpowder and splints and salty sea travels. Many thanks for carrying this through with your original vision and while we acknowledge it is still a work in progress ( yes I am sure in half an year many things will definitely look and work differently ) it is already my primary gaming choice overtaking all the other titles that pulled me away from here. A thousand cannonades in salute!

Arcade or Simulation, the poll
Hethwill, the Red Duke replied to Brigand's topic in Patch Feedback and General discussions
Some of us have devoted decades to a handful of simulator games and they still survive to this day. Do not ever question the commitment of a player that strives for and plays for realism. We do go to great lengths to fuel our fun. Which is not necessarily the same as yours. That being said, realism can be dropped for the sake of gameplay. In any case you won't be able to have ALL types of players in the game. Aiming for middle ground is even worse so I always hope new age developers to design innovative ways to bring both world together with as little compromise as possible. e.g. - NA can compromise the full realistic sail management but keep gunnery at a demanding/realistic level. But NA is not even close to being a simulator. It is a fairly interesting game because there aren't games like it since old Man'o'War and even more interesting it becomes due to being open world instead of a arena mosh pit ad infinitum like the last decade "oh best game ever" types.- 121 replies

Will look for The Cruel Sea for sure. Seems quite a good evening choice. Has anyone seen Field of Lost Shoes ? Any opinions ?

Sorry Osseon, if I have a damage camera I will adjust my shots accordingly, higher, lower. It becomes a homing missile system. That is why it is arcade, that is why it is arcade in WT. Taking any proper sim tank game ( which WT isn't even in SB ) we do not have that option - Steel Fury, Steel Beats, Blazing Armour and even Arma. Sorry, it is as I say a arcade option to include in the UI.

Who to aim at first?
Hethwill, the Red Duke replied to Steel's topic in Patch Feedback and General discussions
If in the mood to play ( and not mess up and try to find odd things ) I will prioritize the ships that shoot more frequently over the weight of shot. Usually this means frigates if I am in a flagship. The less frigates there are the more exposed the flagships become. Plus, the frigates cannot recover the crippling damage delivered by a flagship. If I am on a frigate it becomes a food chain or wolf pack game. Flagships are big fat pudding if left with no support. -

If it is correctly done it can work in a diversity of ways. Rudder runs from the wheel to the water fin. If you hit the contraption above the water line you can damage the rudder system entirely so it becomes unresponsive. For me the most important thing is the per gun, per crew group damage modeling. As it is is too generic and as someone correctly called to attention in the Grape thread, no way a privateer hugging a stern can hit the high decks crew as it does now.

First things first. 1. Wired or wireless mouse and keyb ? 2. any game controllers and/or HOTAS connected ?

makes all sense for sea trials.

Replay
Hethwill, the Red Duke replied to Guthwait's topic in Current Feature Improvement Suggestions
If a Replay system is needed in Open World we will have it. If not... there you go. Sea trials... are just that. Alpha testing of combat. -
where are all the players?
Hethwill, the Red Duke replied to Aussie_Fox's topic in Patch Feedback and General discussions
Well... I think you missed my point entirely. What is the issue with 1/3 of damage point IF you can test different aspects of the alpha build in a more relaxed environment ? Most of the population "play" sea trials like they are playing a full game. That is why they get burned and leave after they reach a high ship.- 128 replies

Actually the HMS "Captain" was towed away from the two spanish ships by the frigate NRP "Tritão" under Capitão-de-mar-e-guerra Campbell in Cape S. Vincent as she was in real danger of getting sunk along with the defeated ships. They were moving up and down with the waves in asynchronous motion ( in portuguese "à matroca" ) with the hulls crashing into each other dangerously. It was done as soon as the two spanish ships surrendered and the battle was still raging down the line. Do we need this is the game ? Unsure. Actually it will be more useful for all ships to keep adding their guns to the battle. IRL examples cannot be put to a game sometimes. Tabletop rules are an entire different thing though, as victory points in a single battle mimic RL more properly AND most of groups use follow up campaigns with previous battle results. In NA ? Unsure.

where are all the players?
Hethwill, the Red Duke replied to Aussie_Fox's topic in Patch Feedback and General discussions
Even if we are all waiting for version 4 for the damage model or open world prototype all the testing of different things can be carried out in pve if no pvp is going on. Better than playing the game and taking the present as granted is to really try things that you normally do not under the stress of "wot like" gameplay. For example, one of the tests I am running, yet with no conclusions - sails unfurled provoke more mast hits that with sails collected fully. In a "let's win newbs" match you won't pay attention. In a relaxed pve match you will take notes and grab a proper test. This being said many guys are simply burnt because of their "grind" to the Santissima, which is exactly what they shouldn't do.- 128 replies

Top score ? no idea. Best moment... being short of a snow, going in with the brig, grape rake and take over the snow. And then, after 5 mins the enemy captains wonder why they dont have the snow and my team wondering how we got a snow.

I will never accept foul mouths in whatever place I am in, at the office, at the pub and even the internet. My advice is, given this is internet and you do not see nor know the human on the other side, keep the foul mouth to the people that know you in your real life such as your own family and your friends. We are not friends nor family and I am sure they will appreciate your "I AM RIGHT" attitude especially when presented with such categorical vocabulary. I support any venture in the online universe that keeps their turf clean of mis-educated brats.

[REQ] Aiming mode UI
Hethwill, the Red Duke replied to Kngsbrg's topic in Patch Feedback and General discussions
Exactly. Sometimes language is a barrier and it is hard to explain an idea. I know this too well. Sorry to Kng if I sound harsh, it is not my intention, I just found complicated to understand what he means. -
Hard call. If the judgement is correct and the full broadside is a winning move, I might. If not I rather try another approach to the situation because I might need that captain down the line to save my stern one never knows, right ? Better is to prevent and as a ship of the line rear admiral do tell your companions in frigates to keep spacing and line up or spread from the outer board of the main line of battle. Than way they can move about and cancel any enemy frigates trying to come through and also have enough room to exploit any gaps. I cannot remember the last time I totally shot through someone's rigging if not in dire need of sinking the enemy vessel RIGHT NOW.
