Distances and size modeled in game are the same as IRL. Scale is 1:1 ( a yard in game is a yard ) therefore we should keep it 1:1 for anything relating to distances and measures. Therefore shot dispersion should not be sacrificed. It doesn't make the game any more fun if you have precision shots versus historical spread. Sail and reload, sure. No way I'm going to sit through Trafalgar historical duration. Time as a measure factor undergoing compression is a very accepted thing in gaming, whether tabletop or computer. ( historical freaccuracy has its place. a full Battle of Britain mission in some games in true real time is great fun or fighting Antietam through Scourge of War by the minute is also epic fun. No kidding. )

A review on the spread and single shot ball attitude is enough to achieve the result posted Also a review on the ship+aim effect on the guns might be needed - I say this because I keep my aim on the spot and even if my ship rolls a bit ( effectively putting guns out of range training and aim point ) the shots still fly true. Spikers are very fast in training the guns And yes, very eager to see 4.0 coming into test production.

I suggest and recommend, for a healthy open world experience, ONE captain career at a time with a option to ERASE the career and start completely fresh. ( à lá E.D Clear Save ). A ALT would be still be possible with buying another account.

Ramming - why so serious?
Hethwill, the Red Duke replied to MATANZA's topic in Patch Feedback and General discussions
Again... your actions ARE computed by a COMPUTER. He does not know you, he only calculates your doing in game. He has no idea if you rammed with ill intent or not and a machine cannot be coded to understand that. It is simply maths. Two ships controlled by two accounts in a course that end in a collision. That is all the server - computer - sees. -
Ramming - why so serious?
Hethwill, the Red Duke replied to MATANZA's topic in Patch Feedback and General discussions
How does a "dumb" computer understands the difference between purpose and accident ? It will only compute two ships, two courses and then a collision. There is no discrimination in code. -
Long guns in game shoot at around 1600 yards, by naked eye estimation ( game scale is quite okay for estimation ). For range is okay. For accuracy this should be a complete mess with ball everywhere, falling short and wide. While the broadside concentration of shot has a high accuracy in game, where you can effectively pin point a full length all at over the 800 yards what is really upsetting is that the "shot by shot" sequence seems to overrule the dispersion calculations and every ball goes in a copycat curve very precisely into the target. At 800 yards, IRL, the vertical dispersion should result in a 100 yards spacing in depth and similar in wide angle.

So far I have baptised a few but not all, mainly the models I like the most. The Privateer is the "Moriarty" The Brig was deemed worth of bearing the name "Irene" The Cerberus shall be renamed to "Slinger" Trincomalee is obviously the "Khan" Victory is the "Woofistan"

A respected mod will never have the need to be "undercover" and its presence in a battle or OW area is always beneficial to the community. A Mod is not a "cop". -
Sorry if it was misunderstood Balck. I was referring to the case where the sinking of a ship in game should be just that, nothing more nor less. And it is a event equal to both winning side and losing side, as in - you lost your ship. Talking about Sea trials here. OW is a subject down the line and treated in due time. Not suggesting a Court mechanics
-
Captains would still be brought to a military court on account of losing their ships, despite the outcome of the battles. This is the absolute opposite of the rewarding winning side even if you lose your ship. Obviously this cannot be modeled correctly for simple sea trial but could be included in the OW mode. Could be interesting to have such mechanics work along with "naval record" Reputation of sorts. Regarding shot and damage a "distance traveled" entry on the log would benefit the testing for sure. Obviously it can open a couple threads of historical representation discussions but overall would help more than not. I believe that the sea trial are just that, and as admin said, the OW meta is the aim, not the arena death matches ( at least for myself ).

Maybe it was me. Maybe not. Was on a Constitution and the other captain was on a Surprise. But serves as an example of what can happen and the reasoning behind many decision that prove fatal. The whole decision, as a captain myself, to not alter course was that the Surprise alignment was not on a collision course but then a sudden course reverse through port put the Surprise into my own course. Rest to say that the stern of the Surprise was to my 2'oclock straight. A sudden turn through port side was enough to provoke the collision. I warned first time because I was passing the line astern, and the second time when the turn was being made... I altered course slightly to my port side but did not radically change it because of the wind course and I was picking up good spped and position. I did not want to lose it and was amazed why someone actually turned into the wind like that... Gladly my ship was not badly damaged.

Warning pings!

I hear them many times ( thought they were signalling ALSO other events ) even when far from ships. I will report. -
Warning pings!
Hethwill, the Red Duke replied to -KM-'s topic in Current Feature Improvement Suggestions
Collision danger Signaling should be in yes. I use a cycle of 6-7-6-7-... to have the whistles going on but I am unsure if the sounds are truly server side. -
How to deal with farming?
Hethwill, the Red Duke replied to StandingCow's topic in Current Feature Improvement Suggestions
How to deal with farming? Test and Report and Understand that Sea Trials is not the game. Also share this information to your friends that want to invest money and time in Naval Action. -
Next time go Free Camera beneath the waves. The Kraken is underneath. He's taking the prize to its lair... Funny glitch though. I board a lot of ships and they always go furled sails and stay there. Have yet to see a unfurled sails ghost ship

Ramming - why so serious?
Hethwill, the Red Duke replied to MATANZA's topic in Patch Feedback and General discussions
No one will risk it after the release of the game. Open World ramming translates in full loss of ship. In Sea Trials ? Sure. Actually the collisions have to be worked on by the devs so a ram here and there can benefit us all. Stop treating Sea Trials as a full game. -
Questions to developers
Hethwill, the Red Duke replied to admin's topic in Patch Feedback and General discussions
It is the same with all nations historical archives. Pay to research and pay to copy. I suggest you discuss any particular ship with them Devs and then reach a compromise if they are worth to research and then having them in game. Having all the information ( especially plans with MEASUREMENTS ) are half way through. Easier to focus on one or two models and work your way through the archives. On top of that you gain nice reputation with the museum/archive teams. They love to help. -
