  1. Actually it is one of the tings I like in the game After a while it becomes second nature and you recognize position by terrain in the horizon. You'll even know in which exact terrain feature the port is.
  2. Up to us to find out. The same dilemma you put up is the same as the "why you use a sloop". NA is quite flexible and is about to become more. I still wish to see crew flocking to successful captains and less to other less...confident ones.
  3. While I do not disagree with what you say, the system which we will be testing puts that decision in your desk. Instead of being a sterile thing it defers whatever you want to do... to you with due rewards and consequences for failure. You might not have to return to port at all given the crew might be lost only in the last durability so it is hard to understand what the issue is. As jodgi well put, it is a captain's conscious decision to take a ship of the line to do a frigate's job and then pay for it with a disaster forcing him to return to port...or not at all.
  4. I am totally in awe with the recent development discussion posts. The basic ideas are excellent and worth testing and at the very least brainstorm. This new PB system and the inclusion of the Raids alongside the terrain and forts is really refreshing. The National war effort is something truly overdue, kudos for that. Just a suggestion. Automatically triplicate timers per town when first timer is set if we really must have them, please. Adjusted by system as needed not to overlap maintenance gaps. 1. GMT 2. GMT minus 6 3. GMT plus 12

  5. Scuttling a ship ashore, not in the middle of the big blue are two diferent things. Examples of this bravado situations can be found in many brig/frigate exemples but always close enough to port to enable crew to be saved. One striking exemple of - no you don't do as you please, crew are not automatons - is a admiral of the fleet being shot dead by his own men when he tried to ignite the gunpowder stores to blow up the ship as it was being boarded by the enemy fleet flagship.
  6. Crew replenishment rates should be connected, somehow, some way, to the captain's feats in PvP(!). BR ratios apply with negatives as well as positives in incentive traditional high seas situations and fame, ex. 700BRv150BR and 100BRv200BR Prize Money from player Traders cargo only could also become a feat in itself not tied to BR ratio.
  7. I must say that, as a basis this feudalist-constitutional system of lordship might work quite nice. It will for sure bring up many uproar with the non-fighting class. Their power eventually comes their ability to deliver or not the goods the Lords need. Ships mainly. So there's a balance between both powers. Regarding the Rebel Lords, I got the idea and it seems like a good way to settle domestic issues, but one question regarding it - Does a allied nation can participate in the civil war for any of the fighting parties ? And... How is this handled in regards of Can any Status Quo be voted at any time or only when the term runs out ? Are there any penalties for breaking an aliance ?
  8. You come to the north, serve yourself of good quality rum and see how you writing already... Pirate Jesus has touched you man, you know what to do next. On topic; Sure makes all sense.
  9. Only if they be freebooterz. Forget the port. Bring out all the loot.
  10. Damn, you need to give Mutley to a faction. I like the toon dogs motif *watching episode atm*
  11. Let the next iteration of Port Battles and Conquest hit. Present version is placeholder. Let it go.
  12. Getting into harm's way is expected of every PVP captain in Naval Action. Take a underdog model, pull yourself through the fight, sink if you have to, learn and do better at every battle. I don't think many of us would play the game if it was only about xp and gold. I know I wouldn't.
  13. While I am sure there are more specialized Works regarding specifics of shipbuilding in this era I got my hands on a 2nd hand Gardiner's Frigates of the napoleonic wars ( getting a brand new one proved quite impossible or pricey ) and there is an entire chapter regarding the economics of wood types especially during wartimes, which we simulate here. There are some compromises due to gameplay of course but still a lot of room for improvement. From quantities needed to produce a model to the variety of woods needed.
  14. Completely agree and totally the right mindset for the test runs and even the healthy longevity of the game. PS - post should've been just that piece of text, the second paragraph stained it.
  15. If the timer planting the flag is already couting down nothing will interrupt it. Flag carrier already dropped it. It is just another 120 seconds to wait, nothing else.
  16. Navy ranks matter for AI. Determine overall strength through modules and aggressiveness. Not that it really is a big difference as they are very mechanic in their wind position choices along with the shooting. What I have yet to determine is that if they have all upgrades or are also limited to slots like we are.
  17. Sure, was just noting that we can play several nations Plus remeber that the Forum account is not tied to the Steam account nor there are plans to do so IIRC.
  18. Given each of the players can have 1 character per server in different nations it will become a nice big list
  19. Free Cutter BR should count only the flat 1 model value no matter how many are in the circle. Also they should be 10 BR.
  20. Okay. Not destroying, poor nation sods. Capturing 1 dura of each then. Should balance things until Pirates can "craft" modified versions from the captured ships Can we have Nations with import ships from europe only then, with a delay from order to delivery ? Should not break the status quo that much.
  21. I can kick in repairs for sails right at start. Given the repairs last for a given amount of time ( 3 minutes or something like that ) you keep shooting and the crew keeps the rigging at 100. Very useful for trader escape This is a mechanic, or are you talking about something else ?
  22. oh okay. I have developed a keen sense of timing to evade broadsides, not consistently of course, but no macros. What you say is a serious thing, I am sure developers did answer to your reports about this if the reports are anything close to real
