  1. Mouthful reasoning without the need of operational logistics or war attrition. Easy as it gets to put a fleet on the water. So of course the arms race is fast and deadly and full of asymmetry at strategic and tactical level. Operational level is non existant ( and full of traitors who would be hanged like traitors ). Everything is easy, immediate and abundant.
  2. Ultimate General: Chariot Empires Hittites, Assyrians...Egypt...
  3. Not a suggestion. Moved to a more correct board. Title edited.
  4. Hmmm... 1930's....ok. Anyway, and looking to HMS Furious type of design and operational novelty in 1917, with a added flight deck, as a step stone in naval warfare evolution would naval aviation would even be considered !?
  5. Finally got to play NA for a entire evening, roughly 5 hours straight of sailing and generally ganking anything like a pvp brute ( bless the kids and lady being away for the week ! ) Sailing out with Hercules with a group of 3 ships, where 2 were Hercules. We had no sweat bringing down Bellonas and anything that crossed our path, everything was 5th rates or 3rd rates and some 6th rates..., was rather entertainingly "boring". We had no doubt, from the moment we pressed attack that it would be a win. Was not really a challenge, just mark farming really... Broadside weight aside and just looking at rigging handling and consequent agility of the ship, it feels like patch 10.x Cerberus all over again I have to test further and grab the video evidence BUT she doesn't bleed speed on a turn according and furthermore, she actually gains speed easy during a sharp turn. I don't think it is the ship itself but something in the sail groups, given her profile seems the stays just propel her across with maximum acceleration when doing these sharp wears.
  6. During Early Access do a Nation's Tour, when you feel drowsy and bored, change nation. Fresh chat, fresh coastlines, fresh enemies and OW situations. Keep a low profile, engage with the community here and there. Reputation is all so don't set anything on stone and don't make enemies everywhere. On release you should have a strong idea of what flag to fly. In truth is not about a nation, but more about the community and the handful of players you will be spending the most time with.
  7. Kill me all day long, we split the difference type of "should yield more" !? ... 🤑... *sarcasm* Actually i'd say zero loss zero win. Let the love for the ship be the driving factor behind sailing it, no the fastfood mark gathering
  8. Plenty of well established middle aged and retired adults do engage in their hobby & gaming full force and if you go to a tabletop con you will see a lot of old farts proudly presenting their figurine historical armies, and well modelled vehicles which they drove in the back of their brand new Tesla If you are a youngster and put ANY game in front of everything else...then... no idea what we talking here. A hobby - figurines, modelling, computer gaming, etc - is by definition an activity to be engaged when there's extra cash and free time. If by abandoning a hobby means more time for family, cars, house, etc, then the priorities of RL were skewed from the start. The discussion was well conducted regarding what is felt as not entirely correct with part of the NA hobby, not about life choices.
  9. Link rigging condition to standing masts "resistance" to damage. Abstraction of damage done to shrouds and support lines linking the masts - bow mast support to foremast support to main mast support to mizzen, all supported by lateral shrouds. Sniping, as in sharpshooting is highly efficient with modules/refits and books/encyclopedia. The individual gun aiming shade can be reduced to the point where deviation is non existent. All mechanics are woven together, same as the elements of a ship. You cannot touch a thread of the web without shaking everything else. When comparing history to serve an agenda, it works the same. We do not have catastrophic misfires of barrels exploding in the gun deck and provoking horrendous loss of life. Luck and unluck play a part in real events. How do we simulate that in a game ?
  10. This is not true and already commented by GL admin somewhere else ( check his profile and latest posts ).
  11. Captured a nice Belle Poule from a NPC fleet. Cost me less than 90 minutes of gameplay. Already has guns. Mechanics and access to ships are woven in a web, nothing is isolated and there's always another way of achieving similar ends. Regarding what Old Crusty posted on the OP, I know where he comes from regarding his game culture. Computer games came way after the tabletop evenings and entire weekends of great multiplayer fun with friends and strangers both at the attic or in the clubs The expectations of translating the "imagination" needed to run a wargame or pen and paper rpg into a computer game is always tricky but regarding the game design to simulate as best as possible the genre and setting being played is definitely the flagship especially for a historical setup - we have data and reports enough to cover as much as possible and developers are only constrained by time and tech limitations. Paper and imagination have no limits, that's why tabletop games never go away and are irreplaceable
  12. *eagerly waiting for both ships to be reviewed according to ALL F11 bug testing reports I am sure everyone is making upon finding incorrect values / bad features on both ships* Even though I walk through the reinforcement zones of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; my xebec and my hercules, they comfort me.
  13. Just to show the other side of the coin. o7
  14. The red sails would block out the sun. Make no mistake. Some have dreamed of the barbary states, not some disney waterpark
  15. Absolutely. Add on top them both being good enough to put a fight against rates above, even two rates and it works wonders with roving squadrons anywhere. I am sure it is a success given the amount of energy/time/resources that now is solely diverted to building PB kraken fleets and not waste any more economy in building all the other nice models for the OW ... right ? win win power gamers
  16. By the RN rating, she would be classified as a 26 gun/9pdr frigate ( forget numeral rates ). If we use the 1807 numeral, then she would be a cruiser 5th rate. But given the rating system works with 3 things - 1st rig, 2nd tonnage, 3rd number of guns - the rig is hardly considered, but for gameplay reasons, yeah, she is a 5th and capable of working shallow waters. Same as the Hercules. Please refer to her campaign in the liberation wars in the south america.
  17. Sure... I mean, biggest we have is trader brig models, so guess okay, especially with the historical currencies around the corner AI should yield way less No ranks meaning you don't have to rank, so a Pyrate must actively seek quarry and pluck the crows. Hardcore pvp option. When you raise the black you know you are in for a war against the world. Plus no Mortimer Town. Move starting port for Pyrates to Kidd's or Nassau.
  18. I wish DLC ships to be credible in the age of sail motif, not a "must buy" toy because it can replace anything in the OW. And phrasing a pro player which sank me using one of those: - "Is there any reason to use any other ships other than the DLC ones ?" - "For OW no. For PB yes." Enough said ---- Back to durabilities... 5 duras = to 5 times the price, the resources, the moving stuff around, the labour hours, etc. Sure. Make it 10 even. That's 10 more times sailing the OW gathering stuff and maybe, if you sail your ships outside the zone, be open to trade raiding. Do not know the details BUT, having the entire loss of guns and modules per dura might not be possible with multi duras, but don't quote me. Also remember that when we had multiple durabilities we couldn't steal the enemy sinking ship equipment, so there's that also. Did we forget all the changes already ?
  19. Schooners for life but yeah, a reduced minority is on NA for the sleek beauties.
  20. No sir. But they follow some NPC rules, for example and similar to any other NPC, they will have Marines.
  21. Can you make a map with ships and wind ( and land ) ? kind of...
