Is this how PB's have been on live? Defenders are placed in the blue circle with the green band as a no-man's land and the attackers outside it (red arrow)?

I clicked out a hostility mission. People had done that before me. I hulk-smashed the three ships in a vic. Silly me, I should have hit a virgin port because I wanted to see how much hostility I could work up with one mission. About the 10x hostility buildup; Is that 10x on testbed and won't be this fast on live, or will buildup be this fast (10x compared to what we're used to) when changes hit? Did anyone test and record how much buildup one mission makes?

Sigh... 1. That's a big issue being discussed elsewhere. 2. You haven't played much lately? Crew is cheap. 3. I think you're pretty much alone in this.

Ok, then mr. Seriousface. I can do seriousface too. To get rich (fast) you need to do quite a bit of PvE with silly bots or silly arbitrary trading items. It's not hard at all, it's worse than that; it's boring. So if you think there's no excuse for being poor you demand that we all gorge ourselves in PvE. hello kitty that. I take a stand against PvE even if it's probably as effective as pissing right into a strong headwind. Since wipe I've actually done an experiment on how well minimal PvE can support a character in OW. I've sold guns at fair prices continually. Yesterday I broke 1 million gold in usable profit. Minimal PvE'ers will have to find a sugardaddy or a bunch of grinding minions to have fun with fighting ships unless they're content with little ships. -

Remove/nerf skillbooks
jodgi replied to PIerrick de Badas's topic in Current Feature Improvement Suggestions
We have a (PVE) grind to win system right now. I, personally, don't like that but you could call that a matter of taste. I wish that skill books (and all other PVE grindable things) only gave a very small boost AND/OR that they aren't rare or extremely expensive. I you force me to choose I'd go with rarity as the bigger issue since that translates to high price and unavailability for normal players, save a few very lucky ones. Why is it a bad thing in my subjective opinion? Many players want competitive equimpent. Most will tolerate to work quite a bit if the outcome is guaranteed, but I suspect many feel the current RNG PVE grind lottery is so uncertain and extremely time consuming that they give up and drop out of risking their assets providing PvP content in OW. An uneccessary negative spiral, if you will. I'm not ashamed to admit I've dropped out of it. That doesn't matter too much since I'm not in the core target audience for a mainly PvE grind sandbox environment, but still. Signed, A willing but apprehensive fringe OW player -

Not only that but traders were made slow as a class as well. When all is added up I can't really discern if sandboxers want loss or not. They loudly SAY they want loss in here, but at the same time there's a lot of whispers (well, and shouting, to be fair) that people being ganked makes them give up and leave the sandbox. A few even point to pure PvPers as a problem since all they want is to shoot at ships and that makes people sad. "Playing it smart in a sandbox is only picking fights you can win", they say. Next up is players on the receiving end of such gameplay demanding eternally open instances so they can get help from randoms sitting in port, wherever. They skirt around the issue that lol-ROE takes away the ability to play it smart sandbox-style. I cling to the hope that decreased upkeep for 5th rates and smaller, bigger rewards and safe zones for everyone those times we don't love PvP will help it come together. I do anticipate cries of "They're printing money!" and "economy is broken!" if people are given a break, though. I'm with you (I guess). I'd rather have people with too much money than too little. -

Crap! I forgot all about max speed... @qw569, could I bother you to sneak that in? Looking at the syntax I'm still not sure how to do it. -

Halp, pls! I would like to set up a way to extract the speed data from the api file after a patch or when changes are made. It would be cool to make it fairly auto, but it doesn't have to be full auto. I'm aware of bash scripts, grep, regex and some fancy editors but I'm afraid I do not know all that well enough to make it do what I want. I'm pretty sure some of you in here could, though. Here's the idea in my head: This is the part of the apt file I'm looking for: {"__type":"MegaChaka.Services.Items.ShipTemplate, MegaChaka","RepairPriceCoefficient":0.1,"Class":6,"ShipTemplateName":"Brig","Specs":{"MaxPassableHeight":3,"MaxSpeed":169.487991333008,"MaxTurningSpeed":16.6299991607666,"Acceleration":0.5,"Deceleration":0.5,"SpeedToWind":[0.907904624938965,0.9187992811203,0.973850250244141,0.995810508728027,0.953455448150635,0.945964455604553,0.907043993473053,0.674097657203674,0.49501097202301,0.57897675037384,0.323229432106018,0.239175021648407,-0.259320199489594], For now I'd like to isolate every occurence of "ShipTemplateName":"Brig" and the related "SpeedToWind":[0.907904624938965,0.9187992811203,0.973850250244141,0.995810508728027,0.953455448150635,0.945964455604553,0.907043993473053,0.674097657203674,0.49501097202301,0.57897675037384,0.323229432106018,0.239175021648407,-0.259320199489594], ^This is the meat of the matter but it would be helpful to include the "ShipTemplateName":"..." of every "SpeedToWind":[...] Anything is *simple* for those who know how to do it Maybe @Black Spawn, @Remus, @Prater, @qw569, @balticsailor, @BungeeLemming, @woodenfish or any of you other technical guys could help me out? -

Perhaps a few posters tentatively ok'ed it after the fact, but i don't remember anyone asking for it beforehand, much less whined about it. Ah, the mythical unicorn dev pet posters. They sure are busy ruining it for every side of an argument. If you're going to be so hard on Texas you might want to avoid posts like this. edit: The core of this discussion has merit, but if the shitslinging continues everything might just go poof. -

You won't be able to grind xp in legends for use in OW (if I didn't misunderstand you). Combat mechanics should stay pretty much similar if not identical. One key difference will be repairs. Everlasting repairs was asked for (OW) to make it more likely to be able to come back from an early mistake and/or to make disengaging more available. There will be no loss (of stuff) in legends so players won't have the same level of anal retentiveness in regards to losing a fight and the forever repairs would only serve to make fights last frustratingly long, like in OW I might add. We simply don't need that kind of noob protection in legends. -

As I understand it, that's impossible. If PvP'ers can fight without partaking in any upkeep save a trivial amount, eco breaks down. Or so they tell me. Also, loss wouldn't matter, and that is somehow terrible to some people. ... Actually it's worse. Pve-ecocrafters can play that game 24/7 without doing any pvp. Pure-pvp'ers aren't so lucky. -
I drop in there everyday to see if someone wants to fight. It's easy for me when: Some people have to wait for that shit.
