Safe Zones Anti-Trolling

they get kraken'ed -
I still have a doubt Devs. Suppose a player has maximum rank. It is, by mechanics, entitled to a certain amount of crew. Now what if that player doesn't want to use them at all ? Like in a simple sloop captain which only wants to command 50 to 70 crewmen. That captain would only have to pay the prizes and allowance for that crew right ? Despite how many sloops of the same model he has in docks, the crew carries over, I get that one.

Will overlook it until proven solid as BF2 ( and modable ). Will stick with War of Rights.

You misread me. This meritocracy, if it is not exploited, is refreshing for a long time player and a newcomer alike. I dislike stagnation therefore I really hope a bit of entropia to follow suit with the power seats being awarded to many players you never heard of simply because they might be out there doing their own thing with their group. It will happen and it will change the direct opportunities in game. Allies are truly allies in the sense you cannot simply go bonkers and attack them. Same way enemies are open to attack. If you disagree, crack some skulls in a rebellion. At least a part of the meta gaming is done with. A new comer will be able to see enemies and allies with no mistake.

I do not believe any true character interested primarily in the action part of things likes to have its way dictated by a covenant of schemers. Leaders must lead from the front and survive the PB pvp ordeal. Leaders will have to fight in equal or less than ideal conditions and triumph in OW pvp. Schemers will surely buy their way into some Lord bed. I also agree that Traders and Crafters Guilds should be instated at a later date with a council of their own which resolves their vote towards nation proposals. Each Lord being able to declare wars on their own is not possible for technical reasons I am sure. Also it would be a return to the dark ages. And who really cares about your crafting anyway when we can enter and deal with allied nations !? I could simply forget your crafting guild exists and buy everything from allies.

Yes. Let's suppose a player does not play 1st rates. He plays frigates. Making the 1st rates more expensive ( to make frigates viable...) has no effect for him as he already plays frigates all the time all the way, yet he likes the changes that are announced where frigates can have their use in Conquest battles. Yet this player would enjoy to have battles where all rates would be able to play to their strengths. There will be Regional Capitals but these will be full of 1st rates. Given Admin requested a original way to make frigates viable in a battle where 1st rates are also present and without resorting to specific frigate objectives nor (sadly) using shallows how come the only thing that could be shown was... to make 1st rates this and that... !? It is a good request from the devs.

Shallows, to some degree, are already present in battles but no to the extent as having the entire mapping translated from OW. It is a very important aspect on setting up interceptions or defensive positions or even evade a enemy squadron to have these in battle. More so in ports. I don't think it is a good idea to have critical damage to the ship for the sake of gameplay. Running aground is already an issue and a lot of time and appropriate wind is necessary to push your ship back to release it.

I was just naggin' on the Historical "thingies" gents always bring up, like it is FACT when it isn't Importance of Historical credibility versus enticing gameplay is what we should strive for and NOT the demise of an entire field of play just because some folks wish it.

Yes indeed. The issue is not easy to tackle with a balance solution. The teleport will be, probably to an unintended friendly town ( read, no free towns for this ). You rather have the OW logoff/login ambush than a "free" teleport ? Another option, very radical IMO, is to extend the after login invulnerability period. Won't eliminate the issue, simply makes taggers wait longer to battle to initiate to give chance for "romulans" to enter.

Take all changes not singled out on their own but entwined together. Check the wind upcoming changes for example and connect it to this changes. Ships will behave different, very different, both in OW and in battle. Also taking hammers to suppress mosquitos is probably a waste of time ( as many have learned by now ). Check Lordship and necessary pvp to get anywhere near the scraps of the table. We do not know the whole scenario leading to these but I am sure it will not be a common thing. I bet it will actually shake the status quo of things. Add crew mechanics to all of that because packing thousands of crewmen while caring for their pay, prize money and replacement will not be kind taking on the facts from history. This little changes patch is only a preparatory stage to bring it all together. Let it flow and then, when everything is place, we judge if the pieces are well adjusted or not. I would expect a more dynamic way of engaging against enemy ports, that's for sure. But given the PBs will remain without land we have to endure it. Land in ports will change a lot the way we play it. If you already fought OW battles in places where there's a lot of shallows and small islands ( try fighting around Bonacca for example ) you should know exactly what will be when trying to attack a port such as Tortuga or Cartagena. Hell, I even managed to run aground during a fight. Was hell to pay to get out. There will be more attrition and ports can now be swamped by more population instead of only the top 3 rates.

Is it time?
Hethwill, the Red Duke replied to Cardsfan's topic in Patch Feedback and General discussions
Test. Do not be pushed back by any other factors other than testing different things, ships, factions, explore the land, etc. No one can limit you to do whatever you want to do. Oh and remember, rank only means one can command more crew not that someone is a better player or that is more important. If you slide into your age of sail imagined character while test-playing the game you are in for a superb time. -
Maybe so. As Blackjack Morgan plainly says so the game is tailored, in rewards, towards that kind of game. But regarding a more true to form ROE action, effective action, where rewards are victory points towards true rewards it is good to know how it would be perceived back in the day. One blatant occurrence I came upon, will get the details later when I have the book in my hands, was an engagement of two frigates versus a corsair frigate, near a well known corsair lair near Madagascar. Both frigates engage the corsair with different mentality, one goes in with iron and guts, the other simply keeps safety as a choice. Eventually the corsair got its due. The captain of the frigate which was too far from effective fire into the enemy was stripped of his command ( although he was later to return to service at half pay ) and never served at sea again. The other captain became a superb navy officer. I do not like the 1.5 BR rule myself nor do I like the present system.
