  1. IMO there should be no discrimination ( and more so transferring responsibility to devs when it should be player's... wtf... ) especially if there's no griefing intent. The same issue with joining PBs without being on the organized roster happens since forever, it is not a new thing. So it may well happen that he simply joins out of "want to have fun". Why you guys always think the worst possible scenario is a let down. What about you guys reach him through PM ? Anyway back to the thread purpose... Many thanks for all the Port battles videos. Very nice to see big fleet action.
  2. Ahahahahah nice one can almost picture the crew crying while loading the guns.
  3. Some games do not entirely block ALTs but deliver some extra work to the users that do - No interaction between same IP unless requested and proven, for example. But heh, destructive nature of power gamers knows no bounds.
  4. how awesome this little snip fits the pyre of NN, dialogue is perfect ( also in memory of Bill Paxton )
  5. Was a particular answer to a constant comment about the generic social acceptance. Anyway, just a bit of data regarding the thread. 1794, numbers for RN in both 1st, 2nd and 3rd rates 1st rates - 5 in full commission, 1 on reserve or repair 2nd rates - 9 in full commission, 7 on reserve or repair, 3 relegated 3rd rates - 71 in full commission, 24 on reserve or repair, 22 relegated If we advance to 1814 the number change to 1st rates, 7, 0, 2 relegated 2nd rates, 5, 3, 4 3rd rates, 87, 16, 80 __________ As the napoleonic wars advanced the 3rd rates got more and more replaced by frigates hence the numbers keeping very similar. Same start and end date the full commission 5th rates went from 66 to 121
  6. Clans are not a demand to play. They are a way for organization of a team to experience teamplay. There are plenty of very successful solo players, but they embraced their choice with all the risk. I came to the conclusion that the biggest share of time a team of 2 is okay - doing turns on escort duty while the other sails resources and while hunting the solo traders of other nations. For combat on screening it is a sign of respect to communicate with the nation buddies. For Port Battles hearing is important. In the end no one will appreciate you to escape a battle to save your bacon while all the others stay on the firing line. Once you expect others to appreciate your presence the relation becomes a two way affair, you will stand to their line until the end. So next time you decide to go into a PB think about that. Next time your mission is jumped by equal BR/numbers do not abandon your buddies. Next time you see an ally in a Signaling battle jump in and fight alongside him. Talking is cheap. Taking action requires taking risks and there's nothing more rewarding than losing your ship while making sure a couple buddies escaped certain destruction against superior numbers. Being the first to escape is a sure way to win enemies in any nation. Snappy salute

  7. While I will agree with Cabral the spyglass was specifically used to check for details at fairly close distance and not as modern image amplification binoculars.
  8. So would be a voluntary thing for any player to lend the logs for parsing, not a automated thing ? Sounds extremely reasonable.
  9. As long as you can see only your own data and not other's data seems good IMO
  10. The Bottles could even be generated from our own battles and be found by others and... and.... etc
  11. Anne, as I see it the spoils would be only visible/ spawn as a wreck after the next maintenance.
  12. Not cut down ! Make it all neat ! So... how many barrels of it did 'ya found lost in some cargo hold ?
  13. Allies should only be able to access a third of any possible resource production in an allied port. Simulates own trade protective laws even against trustful diplomatic allies. Force trade. Force feed the need for whatever.
  14. Very old suggestion. Now and then it pops up. I'd say the best "kill board" would be the rank advancement itself ( in a pvp environment ) as opposite to a ego-shooter gimmick.
  15. Indeed ... to a point. Combat with a purpose or a symmetrical gentlemen duel ? On a hit&run purpose you bet i'm not going to even look to any combat competitivity. I will look to lethality and ability to extend away from danger. Still we have to coexist in the same habitat, naval action OW. Even without modules the ship lines and general construction at a shipyard, even if at a 1 dura, would be for combat with a purpose. Wood type for example makes a general difference in ship handling. The same way if it is more stiff or not, as the turn will be different. Same with planes, same with rifles, same with tall ships.
  16. So many good and well written posts that should belong in another thread were hidden. Apologies to all. Another score of other less interesting ones were hidden as well. In a Port Battle, in a Naval Action combat, there's always my story, your story, and the truth If there's anything left that shouldn't be in this thread please flag it. The tally was 180+ posts out of order... Carry on and please, no naming and shaming. Snappy salute !
  17. Interesting enough it was Valve's primary reason when it was created. Flag was added due to old/spam/hate reviews. Hence flagging them for review, being old reviews or being outright false, is quite important for the games I and you all like.
  18. Many thanks. On that regard I must say I like a lot the Company Tool of another alpha project ( war of rights ). Simple and to the point and given the historical background a similar effect could be achieved here.
  19. Small Battles ? Large Battles ? Tournaments ? Open World raids ? PvP Events ? Most prolific ship builder ? Most cargo hauled ? Most flags planted ? Most forts destroyed ? Define Competitive please.
  20. Not familiar with SWTOR ( no idea what it is ) but is it a early access title ? There are some ( I mean a lot! ) of things that are needed for clan and I'm confident they are in the roadmap.
  21. "Les Gros Ventre Sailing on behalf of Captain AFK Contraband goods found " Yes, I don't mind. See what I did ? There's no other way if we going to pursue "playing without playing". The inherent comfort of "playing without playing" but with risk and due reward due to that simple piece of info.
  22. Sometimes I go over Steam reviews of the game I own. Most are not mainstream and decidedly on the indie front. Why ? There are a lot of issue presented on the reviews which the players did not have the information at hand. What I have come to understand is that the first 5 hours are the impression and the follow up 45 hours are expectation. As there aren't games out there that fit all players chances are Naval Action will not live up to the 45 hours expectations... because it is a game under intricate and heavy development - which drinks too much from the community ideas! It is a conscious decision of the player that it is not the game he was expecting, given the information provided and his own way of interpreting that information and not what the game actually means to the player that did go beyond the expectation phase and gained deepest knowledge on how to interpret and use the game as a way to give life to the story, to a character or simply as a social venue to play together with a community. Flagging reviews is always the better option. Why ? It calls to attention of the Developers to a review that might have not been updated for a long time - and this is especially important on Early Access products like Naval Action. Second it makes your own "reviewer" empowerment brought to the table when two equally measured reviews may be interpreted equally - constructive negative vs disruptive positive. A purchase is not to be confused with a ongoing relationship but social engagement with a product. ( it is apparent that many of the customers do not make this separation while others understand it fully ). So why not go through Naval Action reviews and give a hand to some and flag-to-attention some others ? Pushing the Flag is not a negative action. It is the most positive choice a customer can have and even flagging his own review so Developers receive the feedback. Citing a marketing resource for indie studios, when analyzing a different game also with sailing aspect imbued into the game -
  23. Before we get back on track i'll just paste this in regards of many "unintended competitive nature that goes overboard" and "less than adequate welcome of new players" which we cannot simply disregard and blame the developers at this stage of development. had such potential to be (game) in pirate times... well it is... all the toxic players the ganking/griefing, and general douchbagery that make up the worst parts of (game) are all there... Steam reviews like that there are hundreds the same way there are hundreds pointing other issues but to come to a point where a player reviews a game badly due to his social experience not being fun is not fault of developers but ourselves. So let's try to act and at least try to look that we care. Now get back to the appropriate good natured taunts that do justice to the best part of the community.
