  1. A 1st rate can, theoretically, destroy them without problems - read: if the 1st rate forces the corsair squadron to escape, that is a victory. It all starts with 1 things. OW position of the 1st rate relative to the wind. Given some nations must rely less on massive fleets and more on "privateer, corsair" types due to constraints on economy - very very historical - I cannot see any problems with emulating in-game the HMS Africa engagement versus the danish gunboats
  2. In a PvE Server perspective this sounds interesting. I can imagine the "reenactement" of the several sacking of Cartagena for example being done this way.
  3. Kind of a sidenote but... ... the three new nations are PvP nations with one unique feature - no capitals, no zones. Wouldn't Pirates actually benefit from being a PvP nation ?
  4. Totally dependant on wind strengths at water level and at mast height. In winds where a 74 would cruise fast the majority of the running frigates would have to brace a lot of canvas for danger of capsizing if not even breaking the masts. Actually the sharp turns we make in game would result in tops and royals to snap even in a moderate wind.
  5. Maybe have some specialized ships to hunt and bring them down ? BTW sveno, I like that PB card format, with the location, commanders, etc
  6. Yesterday we had a great battle of unrated corsair schooners and frankenrigs versus two pirate rigged frigates near Charles Town, swedish territories. One 7th and two 6th vs two 5th. Started with the corsairs engaging one of the frigates. Second one joined shortly after the battle started. One of the frigate captains was in "panic" mode at first but his companion surely put his brains to work and they developed a nice Thach Weave to counter the razor blade passes of the small ships. There was this moment where one of the 5th was so low on crew that we tried to force the boarding but he kept his cool. Kudos for their teamwork. They kept changing from chain to ball, from rigging to hull to grape. I wish more of such attitude and team bonds would develop between a clearly experienced veteran and a not-so-experienced captain would happen more. One of the most enjoyable display of "air combat" tactics in Naval Action in a while. The similarities between bigger fighters fighting off weaker more nimble fighters in a air combat sim is exactly the same. It ended with the loss of the 7th and one 6th rate after a few crew shocks on both frigates, armors being stripped also, and proper rakes on the 5th rates, and masts falling on the unrated and eventually water pouring in. One lived to tell the tale and was brave enough to sail to both wrecks and salvage all the goods from previous raids and escape from the combat. Salute to the Swedish navy captains for the great NA moment.

  8. It is not a problem. Devs stated in a thread before the wipe happened that character transfer is an idea for the future but not for the present. Priorities now are localization languages, Tutorial system and UI overhaul.
  9. No changes on list noticed on this end even with port changes due to loss or abandoning them. Only changes that did happen was due to clans changing nation and therefore being dissolved and remade.

Keep acting like captains and post your personal battles results. Turn your forum PvP into game content.
  11. Captains, Report misbehaviour in game by - right click player name - - select report - Warnings can be issues on spot by Chat Moderators but reports lead to Silence results.

Let me arrive home and search for a specific entry of a non-pirate frenchy doing the most awesome heist of all inside a enemy home isles port and even hailing a ship on the way out, had a chat with the enemy captain, slipping out like a pro past the forts using that day signals. A bloodless capture of a trader using a trader. Is quite funny. The same way some fellows did a similar thing in the Phillipines and even had dinner with the enemy captain. Such good memes from real events
  16. This statement is not fact. It is a opinion based upon individual player expectations. Many many players do function properly with one single account. We can debate merits of your statement, which has a lot of it, but is not true for everyone.

  19. That's the million dollar suggestion of this thread correct ? See my signature text. Given several players already gave their opinion and that the subject is under scrutiny by the devs we shall have to respect any further developments. I do respect your suggestion, I simply do not agree with it entirely due to facts previously presented. Regarding new players, I already gave some pointers, mainly for the veterans to share knowledge. I do not see any problem with opening a private message with a player that just had a good game against me and asking how he handled the wind so good, or how to best use this type of ammunition, etc. It is all linked in my perspective. Lack of knowledge is often perceived as "magic" or "exploit". In this case, I keep saying the trader ship will melt under the guns of the warship.
  20. You are not incorrect, warships can dock but not get out unless in fleet.
  21. We get it Rigge, it is about the LGV. But a change in mechanic going to affect the smuggler mechanic, not a ship. Hence the community are liking the proposal of - remove smuggler status if attack. All good. Should a nation Open Ports be removed as an option as well ? Any ship can use those, no need for smuggler flag.
  22. Hello there captain. You can already do this; - make sure you have a Perk that enables the use of fleet - should be Fleet 1, Fleet 2 and Fleet 3 - Fleet 1 allows you to have 1 NPC fleet, Fleet 2 allows to have 2, and obviously Fleet 3 allows 3. - When in your outpost you can right-click a ship and select "send to fleet" - note: fleet ship must be equipped with cannons if you wish them to use cannons in battles - note2: press manage crew to crew the fleet ships. Remember that to leave port, any warship( not trader ) needs minimum 70% of its maximum crew, so a 200 crew ship needs 140. ---- In battle, press M and you will see your fleet ships and give them orders.
  23. Sure. The removed smuggler status if attack anyone is a good option. It is probably better than removing the smuggler option al'together. Not even putting that at odds. Just stated the fact that in no universe that will deter raiders from planning cruises from further away, attack and disappear into the mist. Also, if I would be a greedy fellow I know if I keep a port open-to-all the raiders will use it to buy repairs and sell the captured goods, so... what then ?! There's a lot to be said about this. It is also important to note, as a side thing, that all three new nations specifically state they are PvP. It is perfectly and clearly written in the nation choice card.
  24. Give out the information. Even in nation chat, in private, in help. Let them decide how they use it If 1 out of 10 retains some good tips it is better than no tips given.

I won't disagree with redii but I would expect the nationals that are veterans to at least share some common sense with the new blood - don't fall into the trap of turning and burning game ( leads to boarding which is their strength ) with the LGVs. Keep your downwind, keep the beams open for rolling from the back broadsides, shatter their sides, shoot their sails, don't repair out of panic, keep speed and keep that routine. Making them retreat is a victory.
