  1. @Peter Goldman Yes, I get that and more respect to the "special characters". I also get that 90% of player do not care about duels. Has nothing to do with names, seriously. Having names or not will change nothing in that respect. A ambush can be sprung now with no problems for a 1v1. In the end 90% will simply sail away in battle instance instead of OW. Nothing changes. When there's a 1 to 10 odds of a duel happening one must accept that is not what the players look for in the OW. Maybe on arenas, but definitely not in OW.
  2. The mechanics are blind and do not discriminate the humans, whether newbies or pros. Let's divert from discussing the players to discussing the battle options. Question: Do both sides of a PB have the chance to setup a order of battle to counter the deployment of schooner/brig squadrons ?
  3. The historical counterparts of something like this weren't entirely related to the size of ships but to the sail plan and rigging. A 74 gun could indeed, and was, misidentified as Indiaman. Same with all other kinds of ships but always related to sail plans. A full ID of ship details, as per contemporary accounts, could be done at very close range, 3 miles in the best day with good telescope. You are right, the implementation of this idea must be done carefully and full ID should be at tag range.
  4. I used none but all the times was a mix of Prince, one snake heavy, and frigate in support. I think it was always 3v1 on all times. Reckon the last one there was a heavy Wasa included but was up to the "small sh..." to keep the OP ship engaged. No so different from old Aggy when it got introduced. Two snakes proved enough to break that point. Reckon practice makes perfect.
  5. All is possible. Reckon Malachy was stating that is not impossible or anything close to being a prohibitive choice to make the mixed order of battle unfeasible, and that is worth attention and not dismissed as lunacy.
  6. If it works in Arma, if it works in any tactical sim it works in NA. Well said Malachy.
  7. Yep. Not discussing the merits of op'ness but 4 captured Wasa's later ( one of them being the pretty eyes of someone aka. best build possible in game for speed and boarding ) I am still struggling to understand what is going on.
  8. I like the dynamic system of BR order of battle for PB. Given what has been said, that dev Berberouge did the research regarding the factors that dictated the battle sizes we surely must agree that the interval presented is good, but it can be improved. Towns that barely have any usage - taxes close to 0 - should be baseline BR. While a booming town should see it increased to the 8500 or whatever.
  9. "God is not on the side of the big battalions but of those who shoot best."
  10. As long as the biggest ships do not insist in keeping in one battle group then everything is possible, including breaking the kiting loop.
  11. ... to take into account everything the ship has equipped and how it is built. Meaning baseline BR + special woods BR + equipment BR + knowledge BR Yes, I agree.
  12. Then I interpret it correctly Many thanks.
  13. IMO quite the opposite, will you bring less numbers and more "ooomph" raw power or numbers to fast capture strategic locations ? Am I interpreting the choice factor of fleet line up versus PB objectivs in a wrong way ?
  14. Warrant a review of the Bahamas, that's for sure...
  15. Was a great battle, glad I could watch it. At a moment I was vouching not for any of the teams but for the little ship - go Cerberus ! stick to the their wake ! - but the Ocean boys laid a nice trap and he overshot in between SeaWolf and Shelby with catastrophic results. Watching Wolf dueling the wind versus the frigate and proving such a good defense is what is worth watching in these games and learning and try to emulate in the OW combat. Alas the pistol and cutlass took the day. Great battle.
  16. This thread is to Discuss the Game Mechanic and NOT players/player groups. Thank you Captains.
  17. Limit all, per combat ( no need to buy/resupply, it is combat instance related ) A schooner doesn't have infinite round shot, or whatever type. A brig doesn't have infinite round shot. A first rate doesn't have infinite round shot. ( I'm totally shooting myself in the feet here given my unending love for schooners and brigs... but I rather have a historical setup )
  18. Wow... A lot of unexpected changes. The PB sizes per historical colony size is really interesting. I wonder if Economy side of it, amounts on the production of goods, might get such a historical adjustment as well. ( dreams of abundance/shortage dynamics tied to politics and war famine, etc ) OW loot adjustments look good. This could mean a step further down the breakdown of it even. Loot in Reinforced areas being lessened compared to the non reinforce areas, to promote risk/reward.
  19. I repect that opinion, but that is wishful thinking. Not that many attack there though. Not worth the effort. Now, being attacked by the national in reinforcement zone earns the attacker no reinforcement.
  20. You mean every single port in the map having Reinforcement button ? Or the Reinforcement button summing 1.2x the BR of the attackers ?
  21. The entire east islands chain ports are 1 minute sail from each other. It is a continuous reinforcement overlapping zones. Imagine the Attack option would be removed, it would become a PvE zone.
  22. The reinforcement zones are not a new thing btw. Back then every single town had reinforcement button. Every single one. ( oh and btw there was no teleports of any nature, only back to capital every 4 hours. ) As I put it, the guys with thousands of hours barely played any other game for 3 years. At average they played two or three days a week, sessions of 4 hours on average. They are not a "exception", actually most of them are fairly subpar compared to powerplayers ( some of them play entire shifts of 8 hours... ). But we digress. What is the issue with Reinforcement Zones at the moment ? Too big ? Too small ?
  23. I heard from another captain that was told by another captain's mother that he was spotted recently at a undisclosed exact location, maybe close to the Bahamas, for a brief period of time.
  24. I kind of like having a "tutorial zone" but it is a double edge razer sharp thing. If you think about it ( and there's always a bigger shark out there ); Did, any player, materialized in the open sea being a very good captain dealing death and destruction ? Or did that PvPer had to practice, and practice and practice some more ? I dislike how the "career" and planning made by the captains that are now considered the "sharks" is suddenly put aside as they were simply a part of nature, that they came to be without any kind of ...effort. For example, a trade raider knows trade routes because he spends a lot of time, open to being attacked, sailing the enemy areas and taking notes. Is he not in the same condition as the trade, player wise ? Is he not open to be attacked ? The same way a war captain, sailing his long cruiser frigate, looking for worthy enemies. Isn't he open to the full extent of PvP when he sails out ? The same way as all other players ? Yes, the game requires pratice and getting into trouble a lot of times so one can learn. Maybe rushing to the biggest thing is not a smart decision as the Sharks in brigs can, due to their time in game, practice, practice and more practice, bring that big ship down. If you think about it, 2000-3000 hours across 3 years of early access is normal. It means the player did not play any other game. And did only play 3 days per week, like 3 or 4 hours sessions. To end, safe zones are safe. What is their purpose ? Should the roaming AI be removed from safe zones ? Removing Attack is really a bad suggestion. Look at the East territories and share how would a no attack rule would work...
  25. This is correct, although a fairly unclouded mind can answer those questions on their own even without a tutorial. I am sure Naval Action has not been their very first game There is a fairly ( or was ) permanent presence of many veteran captains in Help channel. This should continue.
