Reinforcement Zones PVP1/2
Hethwill, the Red Duke replied to Pagan Pete's topic in Current Feature Improvement Suggestions
Well, same as in ED. 100% insurance of the ship + extra insurance for equipment per piece. Automated system versus keeping money on the side Only difference is that you don't get the exact same ship back in NA. In ED insurance works because basic ships are all equal. Equipment insurance is on the side but everyone has access to them, no drops, just shop.- 125 replies

Reinforcement Zones PVP1/2

Funny, the testing of missions to be chosen to be on enemy regions ( some time before ) was opposed a lot. Was probably the most interesting way of making players move out from capitals regions Personally I'd keep the Safe Zones for now, seems like a interesting way to safekeep naval cadets, but remove reinforcements. As a balancer the National AI on those areas becomes aggressive. So in Swedish zone, swedish AI is agressive is enemy shipping passes in tag range and starts a chase.- 125 replies

Tagging and Spawning into Battles
Hethwill, the Red Duke replied to Frederick XXII's question in Feature proposals and Gameplay Help Q&A
Mechanic is relative to Attacker and Target positions, so circles will be positioned relative to their respective positions on the 0 seconds count. Dutch tagged. Swedish captain Piet ( on my screen ) was downwind from them already, a good frigate length, when the swords appeared. I think he was the one being tagged by NXT something ( sorry for the names, i'm terrible with names ) but tagger is always the first name on the attackers list. -
We also manoeuver way faster and easier than RL Guess we can have it all Guess some tiny tests can be run, as suggested above. ( selling my fish ! )

Yes. Precision is high. You can test this versus a black paint heavy frigate and using a brig or a corvette. The accuracy is okay as I see it, they fall into the predicted vertical and horizontal area. The precision is too high and grouping is too tight imo Put modules in, mix precision and penetration ( all on the 10% range ) and baaaaam.

Most demasts I see are either 100m - 250m rolling broadsides ( 1 mast usually ) or single shot snipe at same distance ( can work out the two fore and main ). Did see 1000m tops demast though with 32 pounder and above.

Remove the single cannon UI aim overlay. Leave only the full broadside angle area overlay.

limited ammunition
Hethwill, the Red Duke replied to MasterBurte's topic in Current Feature Improvement Suggestions
Hence why I say that is not sterile. I really like your approach, especially the consideration of mass ( and volume in a far future, maybe! ) but the way the OW reacts to all those "battle focused changes" must change as well, especially the RoE Not disagreeing, just looking back to experience. It is always a race and squadrons will make up for each ship strengths and weaknesses, as proper and less speed means little in OW as we can spacetime warp into battles and then put the ammunition and charges weight to full work. Money is not a issue and when we tested it to be an issue it was met with fierce resistance ( but imo the synergy was better ). -

@z4ys This is the Dutch war thread. Now I wonder if the Pan Dutch-Prussian Care&Trade Commonwealth is included on these dark arrangements... In truth... is a tyrant better than another tyrant ? -

limited ammunition
Hethwill, the Red Duke replied to MasterBurte's topic in Current Feature Improvement Suggestions
Let's see. One ship with limited ammo. Two ships with twice the limited ammo. Yep, a limited ammo arms race and sweeping squadrons makes up for the limits. Poor fellow at the short end of the stick will take it as it would unlimited. Not that different from what we have at the moment with unlimited. It is a arms race of amount of ships. Suggestion has grounds but is not sterile, for PvP. Must be strung up connected to a feasible RoE or it is simply a faux-feature. -

You should be able to find that exact information on the ship/crew logs. Send them a email -
limited ammunition
Hethwill, the Red Duke replied to MasterBurte's topic in Current Feature Improvement Suggestions
For the big ships the limit was not the solid ball shot ( let's not talk about other types of shot ) but the charges. Example being the United States super frigate having to gain separation and during that respite it had to refill gunpowder charges after continuous combat and 70 broadsides. But there are examples of engagements ending due to exhaustion of shot. Reckon it could be addressed, especially for schooners up to light frigates. -

How many different crews/commanders did the Constitution go through before she acquired her legendary status !? Five !? Six !? Where one Captain did see what more could be done with her, others before fell short. In the end if math is correct that's what it comes down to - the man behind the machine. Bending the math in code to fit the human age of sail RL achievement ( aka. records that this captain managed to achieve certain speed on a certain day with certain wind strength using certain sails positions at a certain latitude with certain atmospheric pressure, etc etc etc ) is wrong. That achievement is that captain's. We should though be able to, with proper use of the machine systems - hull, rigging - in relation to the environment - wind, water - achieve similar results within the game limitations. Not as a baseline, use the best record, but with proper fine use of the ship may reach the best.

Looking at all these improvements and re.reading the following papers. It is really something that these are, hopefully, coded in some manner into the game. Not math heavy and really accessible, especially 272. Doesn't take away the gameplay but surely improves the naval age of sail experience. 272 ARTICLE III. THE TIME EMPLOYED BY DIFFERENT VESSELS TO PERFORM THE SAME EVOLUTION, IS PROPORTIONED TO THEIR LENGTHS. 253 Chapter III - OF THE MOST ADVANTAGEOUS ANGLE OF THE SAILS WITH THE KEEL AND THE WIND 258 - Article III - A TABLE OF THE SITUATION OF THE SAILS TO RUN WITH THE GREATEST VELOCITY. vide in http://www.hnsa.org/resources/manuals-documents/age-of-sail/the-elements-and-practice-of-rigging-and-seamanship/seamanship-vol-ii/

[Caribbean] Great battle results.
Hethwill, the Red Duke replied to monk33y's topic in Caribbean News
Start of battle screen. End result was all ( but one survivor, a Rover tradition ) Prussian corsairs sunk against no Dutch losses. Definitely not our beach since far too long so time to get back on the naval academy and re.learn. Snappy salute to the Dutch Navy and whomever was ravaging the OW, combat news looked nice with the sinking of traitors.- 4,801 replies
