  1. Trade wars was 90% of naval warfare in the age of sail. Trade wars was 90% of naval warfare in the ww2. Convoy system was used in the age of sail. Convoy system was used in ww2. This is a multiplayer game and very important to multiplay outside the Reinforcement Zones.
  2. Yep exactly what I explained. Although they move sideways they do not have the waving ground to contend with
  3. Exactly. Game has limitations. If you fire a broadside you will see changes of trajectory at fairly regular intervals of cannon groups. We had it more pronounced way back but there was a problem. A player problem. Broadsides were half flying high, half getting into a sudden wave. And guess what the suggestion was ?
  4. At 800m, artillery batteries ( 6pdr - 12 pdr ) were expected to hit a frontage of 70m consistently. Pretty much artillery focusing infantry in line. It is the age of mass fire into one spot. So, for you mathematicians, how much deviation from 0m to 70m at 800m in degrees, horizontal? Let's translate that to sea. 70m square area at 800m. What is the angle maximum deviation for X and Y at 50m intervals ?
  5. A full experience of the age of sail set in the west indies with all the joys and woes and terrifically based upon realism as credible as possible, where failure and success are justly rewarded and refusal to do one's duty might signify the end of a naval career and to spend the rest of the days as a trade captain or a scummy privateer, or even worse, a pirate, living off the land for the rest of yer days, and all of this with the most spectacular age of sail naval combat with absurdly epic cinematic imax quality grandeur along with captain perma death if a cannon ball or malaria strikes down !? And then I have to start a totally new career !? Is that what you mean ? * take my money * If it is not what you mean then NA is already on the good path, imo.
  6. Yes, I read that correctly. It may well be the sudden acceleration that is odd. The same effect can be felt by suddenly depowering when all sails aback and a surge of acceleration is felt. vide in http://archive.hnsa.org/doc/steel/index.htm this specifically for different lengths on the same evolutions http://archive.hnsa.org/doc/steel/part9.htm#pg272
  7. We cannot read your mind Hence caution is necessary before hitting that Submit button.
  8. ... so...no variable wind ? Why can't we have nice things ?
  9. I know it is a game. You did answer yourself also You cannot bring credible realism in a game one facet only. Either bring it, or don't.
  10. or less than 15 minutes also ( and not so few like we imagine )
  11. Thank you for sharing your NA experiences. Someone might find them helpful and insightful. Not me for sure. Hope some other readers consider them of worth.
  12. I respect your opinion. ( opens drawer, stuffs it inside. closes drawer. ) Thank you for it
  13. That players want to play NA for the experience the life ( and death ) of being a captain of a ship in the west indies during the grand age of sail ?
  14. I did click the button. I did see the 20 seconds countdown on the screen. Prayer and then amen and set sail. I do click the button to fire a broadside. I do hear the crew cheering and we cheer as well.
  15. Practice makes perfect. Gun port separation, speed, angles, etc. Only thing, which might be technical, not sure, is that the variation during a rolling broadside. Seems that some ball will fly the same trajectory even if deck heeled slightly and if above certain angle then it will shoot higher or lower. Modules are a strong "insurance" against practice. Massive volleys of high penetration stack. Done.
  16. Hmmm... press X to offer "honorable surrender"... take the cargo, give back the ship Back to Pray. Ain't a religious thing tied to us humans on the screen, but an act in-character. We still do it, now and then but with the button we had the ritual And it worked miracles !
  17. Not the point It had its uses, no matter if it does anything or not. Plus our accord forbid gambling on board so can't use Play, for rp reasons.
  18. No joke. I used the button for RP purposes in our small squadron. I know that UI royal estate is expensive but even without it doing anything was a important little thing. We did pray for traders, full fleet of indiamans, sailing afk. Thank you.
  19. It has been a long on-going development with a ton of testing. That is all. Reckon the old farts have more patience, so nothing related to age but rather how long they have been testing everything.
  20. So many different playstyles it is great !
  21. I don't understand the graphic. Does it mean a lot of players moved to Spain for real ?
  22. Not interested in it myself, no because of grind but because of whole age of sail experience. Even if short barebones. Buuut cutter wars can be fun. Plus testing the sailing aspects in there and here is beneficial for the whole GL naval franchise.
  23. I was not implying your situation Was specifying the rule. From what I hear from Vernon it was a great battle lasting one hour I guess it is a good age of sail experience package, the hunt, the approach, the battle. Two hours well spent worth a book chapter. o7
  24. Let's do it ! Open the OW instances ! Let's all pile on a moshpit Let the cycle close itself.
  25. Correct. First name on the left hand list is the tagger.
