  1. AI warships of the nation safe zone you are in. Random behaviour ? Why ? The stakes are on the player, not the machine. Play Elite and you will know exactly what I mean. And I play both smuggler and pirate there. Running blockades to supply illegal trade or arms when civil wars about to erupt or going in with "stolen goods" ( basically all cargo stolen from a trader will be marked as stolen ) checking if the black market guys are around to buy the stuff as I cannot sell to normal market. And it has both "ow travel" and be pulled into "instances" by the AI. You count on it when going into enemy space and the patrols also roam around. A smuggler has to run the gauntlet, evade the scans and make sure he enters the "port"; that's half the job. Exiting is the other half. We cannot have free reign nor full shutdown. It locks out too much possibilities.
  2. Bragan - some folks do not care a single bit about the age of sail experience, but they care about the ow pvp. Hence they can access any ship without resorting to economy, given they are proeficient in their pvp. Others that want to play the game and age of sail experience, with trade, crafting, etc, can access everything by other means. So everyone has access to the stuff depending on their favourite past time in game. A natural born crafter will be as good as a natural born navy officer ( which didn't have to worry about crafting ). Values would have to be reviewed of course. Both resources/materials and marks of valour. Just ideas to help the coexistence. Trade WAS the money maker - naval officers had a fixed allowance, chase captains could win some prizes on top of that - but it is unjust to keep pure naval career players tied to it and having to rely on economy when then adamantly are against it - just want to pick up a ship and fight. Hence they can rely only on themselves, their combats and the marks for new ships. At the same time the shipwrights/traders can make use of their gameplay without having to be reliant on marks. - Yes, I mean aggressive AI ( kind of stolen from Elite ). You want to smuggle ? Make sure you run the gauntlet. Want to ambush traffic coming in or out ? You have to deal with the AI security forces. It gives both opening and space to friendlies and enemies without being a "always works" solution. I mean, a lot of people would sail along AI in gone times for a reason. As they are not dragged in anymore, at least in the "unconquerable zones" they should act as coast guard. -
  3. If you are downwind from your opponent it will become difficult to "climb" the wind to stay "above" him.
  4. Blubasso, it all starts in the OW position when the attack counter ends, and as others put it, how to develop the fight to keep yourself in control of relative position to your opponent. It is not as intricate as it could be though. There's no definite problem with being leeward from your opponent ( albeit more open to leaks due to heeling ) and you can still keep it in check. But being upwind ( in game terms you stole the wind ) gives you more flexibility. Will come down to experience, very much like a flight sim ( non arcade shooter ).
  5. - any captain could acquire any ship through both methods, crafted -or- in Admiralty - all modules and books being acquirable through both methods as well, crafting or Admiralty - raise crafting needs per ship to appropriate age of sail levels. Raise Admiralty marks requirement accordingly. - actual trade or supplying the shipwrights - Trader occupation - would yield the most gold income and XP ? Can acquire whatever with gold. - combat against enemies of the nation - Navy officer occupation - would yield the marks of valour and XP ? Can acquire ships and modules with marks. - Reinforcement Zones become subject to Protective AI and Signalling effect ( active patrols and aggressive behaviour against enemy players ) as opposed to the present situation - trade ships do not yield marks - ports PB BR be dynamic according to accumulated tax rate over 7 days - starting at (Sh/Deep) - 600/1200 - for 0 tax made - up to 2400/12400 - for 2 million tax - Coastal defences being dynamically placed according to port tax - each tower equals 50k, fort equals 200k - for 2 towers and 1 fort, 300k net worth of tax.
  6. Actions to be taken in ingame chat - right click player name - select Report option Tribunal is not for chat issues. Veteran players should lead by example, espeically regarding community rules.
  7. 750m and affects vessels with bow gun ports, even if no guns are mounted. And it works both for the target and yourself. Visual cue - name above ship.
  8. Yes, a challenge. Maybe it can be simply a subject of tagger/tagged player responsability. In the long run the average will balance itself. Even if a massive SOL screening action happens, the ratio is what ? 1:1 ?
  9. Actually some of the fellows I play with are way more inclined to get back to the ships they like, actually being the ones without any bow gun ports - Cerberus, Belle Poule and Essex - just to name 3 of them. But I totally understand your reasoning. It is a test, it just started. I did drop Control perk myself as soon as trade dried out due to the zones, but was a must for me and worked more often than not. Now I rely on closure rate. If I am fast and closing on you, you will not just escape 100m away, no matter if I have chasers or not. It is a test. As with everything it might provoke some discomfort.
  10. Bahamas. There's no getaway from the roaming squadrons anywhere, but with a couple of friends it can become a great neverending experience.
  11. What Havelock said, plus Add Average battle BR ratio. 1:1 is not 5:1
  12. No button. If you are using a ship with bow gun ports you do not have control by default. If you us a ship that has no bow gun ports you have control by default. It is a captain's choice on/off. Same as with the Perk, it is a on/ff choice of yours. Others having Control, well, is out of your... control. Maybe chasers angles should be corrected to 45 degree and not shoot directly through the rigging... and then have control by default for all...?
  13. And use only ships that can mount bow chasers... basically reduce ship models count in game by... 60% ... right...
  14. Yes, it works both ways. It is a price to pay. In the end it comes down to your expectations. Does it help you more times than it interferes ? Then it is useful. If not, then don't use it. You cannot control what other captains choose and Control is not selective, is area. Given it works as long as you are within 750m just move away from any ship until you cannot read the name. Then you are safe. It already has a toggle on/off for ships without bow gun ports - have the perk or don't have the perk. For others is automatic, as novelty for testing. Most ships without bow gun port for chasers weren't used much due to that same reason.
  15. That's how the Officer names were done when we had them. And they remained the same throughout the career, the whole 10 lives.
  16. Make those same ports unconquerable ( biggest issue was nations being one ported ). Return to the 1 Capital Zone ( was fairly large ). We are in the starting line again - 80% of the map is not used due to safety/comfort and ease of access. PvP is just for the sake of pvp. Conquest is only for progaganda purposes, with notable exceptions to build modules - not vital resources. We did test it all, and, as players as whole, we abhorr anything that is not instantly available and that requires long term planning. Spaceships mechanics in the age of sail.
  17. Pre-1833 full white. Post civil war the blue field was added.
  18. HMS Pastel de Nata for a Pickle
  19. I mean pirate as in credible realistic hardcore pyrate. They were hardcore.
  20. Ok... only Pirates become Hardcore then...
  21. Why not turn ALL nations into hardcore nations ? Then Pirates can be whatever pirates they want.
  22. Or names taken from a big DB. I remember the Officer Names, I would rotate them until I got one I liked. Was kind of cool tbh.
  23. Cannot simulate reality Individual blocks, spars, lines, fitting being shot away, shrouds getting cut, etc.
