  1. Grape should penetrate the quarterdeck and forecastle barricades, except for heavily-built vessels like Constitution.
  2. Defensive tagging feels like a gamey exploit, but it's really just fair play, and should be possible in all situations. If leaving battle was distance-based (Control for everyone), then square-rigged traders would be unable to flee at all unless battles could start at slightly beyond Control range via defensive tagging. And as I've said a thousand times, distance-based exit should work hand-in-hand with exit timers. There can still be a timer when you are within Control range, but it should be 10 minutes or so.
  3. Control perk and defensive tagging for everyone!
  4. It restores the balance. Because otherwise the balance is just: No chaser = no catch nothing never And that is fifty kinds of fucked up.
  5. Small vessel combat isn't popular enough in this game for large-scale smurfing.
  6. Always 9 balls, each 10% the weight of the corresponding shot? So 9 1.2 lb balls in a 12-pdr load of grape?
  7. More than that: balance and fun is the main thing. The list of features that can't work due to multiplayer is longer than my arm. All the features that are 'unbalanced' or 'not fun' or 'too grindy' become possible when you consider a SP game with saving and loading.
  8. Exactly the concept I was grasping at.
  9. Should grapeshot even exist for guns of this caliber? IIRC most individual shot used in grape were 2-3 pounds. Popguns like this would be stuck firing langridge and the like. Edit: Anyone have some pre-Napoleonic sources? The 1850s Napoleon 12-pounder guns fired 9 grapeshot at a time. Hard to imagine fitting more than a few of those in a 4-pdr. The Pandora's Box here is cannister, which everyone would use instead, if available. That would be effective in a 4-pdr for sure.
  10. In a tiny area of the map. Which is 100% optional for new players and veterans alike.
  11. You ignore the fact that Control should be made default for everyone.
  12. Go find me a tutorial where players are repeatedly put in unwinnable confrontations. The OW is a wretchedly terrible place for learning the basics of gunnery and maneuvers. You forget how much of a learning curve there is between basis combat and intermediate stuff like outpost placement and damage model quirks of individual midgame ships. Most veterans had the luxury of Sea Trials, where an even fight was 30 seconds away.
  13. You are arguing against the inclusion of an optional pseudo-tutorial. That was not an extreme conclusion; it was the only logical conclusion. At least as applies to Naval Action. But your concerns apply to every tutorial in any game.
  14. How extravagantly far-fetched. We must abolish tutorials everywhere to avoid giving players a 'false idea' of the rest of the game. Even optional ones must go!

  15. None, in the Royal Navy. Since they would have to be Lieutenants, and not Captains.
  16. Everything is hitbox-based. So whatever the ballistics, those shot are actually hitting the crew colliders. Now, the hitboxes may be mimicking some rather robotic behavior, but that's another story. I'm more concerned with the damage differences between 4-pdr and 32-pdr grape.
  17. Yes, but Revolutionnaire was exceptional. The base speeds of the frigates in the game are very conservative. But then unfortunately we have an array of snowballing mods and perks that result in severely inflated performance. 2% and 5% modifiers everywhere, throwing everything off.
  18. Grape is probably too effective at low calibers. But what we really need are marines volley firing at your little cutter and knocking out your crew first.
  19. Only if one of the offenses was being an Unreliable Narrator.
  20. You really get a refund and still go register for the forum? That is like the stuff of nightmares...
  21. Any large ship that makes the regular run to Manila is automatically a Manila galleon, regardless of design.
  22. http://forum.game-labs.net/index.php?/topic/11476-access-to-chat-limited/page-7#entry311555 Looks like you were told to send Ink a PM for the reasons, but you threw a fit instead of doing so.
  23. The proper speed effects for trimming gaff booms are on the to-do list.
  24. There's a reason she was the only one. They had captured several French 24-pdr frigates at that point.
  25. Why would you expect a longer, deeper, wider frigate to maneuver better? For what it's worth, both ships were generically described as 'slow to wear.' IRL Leda-class did not heel much.
