I kinda like this idea. Could tie it in naval action fashion by having another "watch on deck" or something to that effect. The captain isn't on the deck of his ship 24/7

Take away the GPS
Christendom replied to PG Monkey's topic in Current Feature Improvement Suggestions
Nostalgia is a heck of a thing sometimes. Removing GPS will not bring back the excitement you felt during your first couple weeks playing and it's inclusion in the game is a creature comfort that benefits new players and vets alike. -
Post-Wipe will the game be worth playing?
Christendom replied to xAzDKr's topic in Patch Feedback and General discussions
pretty much this. I have doubts the proposed changes to OW and the player economy will work without a larger base of people. -
What's he saying is this game shouldn't require the commitment level of a 2nd job to experience it's highest form of end game content, RVR.

For reference you might want to detail what server you're on (or plan to be). The question is a bit vague. -
POLL. Removal of Global Chat
Christendom replied to Koltes's topic in Patch Feedback and General discussions
Seems like the polls are overwhelmingly against removal global in this thread. It seems other decisions have been based off of community polls, will this one be as well? -
Monkey, that is perhaps an even more terrible idea than actually removing global. While i've done my fair share of global/battle chat trolling and rib poking, I can honestly say that it's nowhere near as a toxic as communities in other games. I've played maybe 2-3 games of league of legends total and the chat in that game was the true definition of toxic and discouraging to new players. Meanwhile they still have millions of players. If you have a good enough game, people won't give a shit. What goes on here in NA pales in comparison to some of the more successful games out there, the issues we seem to be having are overblown. Ask for more volunteer mods if you need to, throw them a special fancy ship in return for their service, and punish the offenders. Install an in game profanity filter than you can toggle on/off. Problem solved. A feature I really like in World of Warcraft is the ability to make your own chat channels. My guild has tank/dps/healer chat. My old server had a self moderated channel for world pvp. Was an awesome idea. These are multiplayer games, we play to interact with other people, not isolate ourselves. It's stupid to be wasting resources to turn off global/battle chat in an early access game at this point. You have bigger issues to attend to.

on the flip side of this coin, typically alphas in the fashion you describe do not pre-fund their game development and if they do, it's through pre-orders rather than early access. The byproduct of funding as you go and opening the game up to early access is of course what is happening now. It's a double edged sword. If you want people's money before you finish a product, you get their opinions.-

Current Ships in Development Update?
Christendom replied to Fluffy Fishy's topic in Patch Feedback and General discussions
Yea 2 different ships at different times. 30ish years apart. Read up on the Santa Cecilia wiki, it's an interesting story. If you're an Aubrey fan, O'Brien put a little twist on it in relation to the surprise. -
And yet I find tagging me here to be a bit antagonizing, wouldn't you say so. Are you suggesting I'm a troll sir? Picking fights doth not a good community manager make. Certainly you have more important things to do with your time than teach little ole me lessons? Now yesterday I had one post deleted off the thread that was critical, but yet contained no memes, pizza or dead animals. Zero troll. @slaught on Monday had a similar post deleted where he was critical without using memes. I saw several others wiped out that were deemed unworthy as well. Either take constructive criticism or don't. Taking it selectively is wrong and gives off the censorship look Anyway, you're right. I do get salty about this game. I've invested many hours and multiple accounts into it, as many others have, and it's disappointing to see it taken down paths that are clearly folly. You have a unique opportunity here with NA and if you could just get out of your own way. You don't like some of my posts and that's ok, I don't like all of them either. I am however one of the few people here that is going out of his way to organize the community via nation and server meetings hopefully in an attempts to balance out Dev mistakes. I don't need to do this, and I could just become one of your passive followers on here who like everyone of your posts. Despite my untowards appearance I do give a shit. Keep antagonizing me and I'll just stop. You've got bigger fish to fry, go do it

Why are the playernumbers so low?
Christendom replied to Corona Lisa's topic in Patch Feedback and General discussions
So lets say a month ago RVR was the only thing keeping this game alive, aka people logging in. Wipe announced, server splits announced + a whole other mess of changes. No reason to RVR anymore and those that are typically online stop doing so. Game dies. MMO games run on end game content and we currently have none. Prior to the wipe announcement OW pvp was challenging at best. Other than raiding around Navasse and KPR, it was rare to find it. With the server population cut in half from what it was a month ago it's impossible. I sailed around Saturday/Sunday in a ship full of loot outside Navasse and saw the same dozen people. Losing population from a game such as this is a snowball effect. Sandbox games rely on players to provide content and if your player base keeps dropping month after month so does your content. Which is why all the changes proposed by admin doesn't fill me with excitement. You can make all the changes you want to the OW and try to improve it, but the only thing that will really matter is if people will be on to use said changes. I fear that the time between wipe announcement and said patch will be too long and folks will just move on. -
Tweak Instead of Delete
Christendom replied to Aventador's topic in Current Feature Improvement Suggestions
I'll agree on this. I kinda liked the "island hopping" of the conquest flag system. It's kinda bullshit that the US can go down to Santa Domingo and raise hostility when we have nothing nearby, same goes for you guys at Wilmington. -
What I see here is a bunch of changes that don't seem to have been requested by anyone. As I said before @admin, everyone gets what you're trying to do. Make OW more fun, give people more reasons to sail. We get it. This can be achieved without drastically making the game more time consuming and more importantly, more tedious. Make some new content instead of constantly revising the old stuff. Getting rid of a convenience and saying, "go sail more" isn't a solution we want. We want reasons to play this game more, not less. Here's a couple of ideas. - Escort missions, escort a NPC or player ship from point A to B full of player crafted goods. Make NPC ships actually carry player items and you have to charter that ship and escort from a free town. You get the idea - Delivery missions. Same as above, but you sail the trader and take on the risks. Chat issues. I've only experienced one MMO where you cannot talk to the enemy factions and that is World of Warcraft. That game of course has 10 million subs and full servers. We have less than 1000 people. This game is small and removing another part of the community will just make it smaller. This is bad decision. You have mods, ask for more volunteers. It's obvious @Kloothommel is dying to be one. Throw him a fancy ship and he and others will do it for free. Small battles. Honestly I don't really do these very much other than to practice and when the occasional one pops up. I don't feel like the 10 people who actually do these daily are detracting from the OW experience. So far in this game I've see 3 "events" if you will that actually got some of the player base excited to log on and do stuff. the PVE event with all the shipwrecks, the PVP tournament done via small battles and @Liquicity's small battles. 2/3 of those were done via the small battle system and I think it would detract from the game to remove those. Having a lobby system as well as OW doesn't necessarily mean you have to serve two masters. Sometimes you don't want to sail around for 2 hours and just screw around. Nothing wrong with that. Bottom line, if you want to improve OW sailing you need to have more people on the water. More people will solve a number of issues this game is plagued by. Your changes will make it more difficult to keep players in the game, be extremely difficult for new players and ultimately cause your die hard veteran players who still remain to lose interest. Right now you have pretty much everyone from both the eastern and western alliances agreeing that these changes will be foolish, it's rare for us to agree on anything. I suggest you listen.

Is it a bad thing to give people reasons to log in? If you require 1st rates to be an accumulation of multiple day sails and resource gathering, lets guess a 1st rate is a weeks worth of sailing/gathering in the new system, only to lose them in an attack where 15% of the time the offense wins....people are going to get fed up. Quickly. I can appreciate what @admin is trying to do here, really. Force people into the OW, make sailing great again. But people aren't quitting this game in droves because it's not hardcore enough of a sailing simulator. They are quitting because it's boring, it lacks end game content and it isn't new player friendly. None of these changes announced today will improve any of those aspects and will in fact hurt them. Which means more players will be quitting and there will be very little chance in keeping what new players do stick around. This game needs more people to fill the OW to make it more fun. Yes back in the day they would sail for months at a time, but I'm not doing that. I log on after work for a few hours a night, I don't want to spend all of it moving crap back and forth. With the alliances removal, splitting of servers and now removal of global chat this game is going to feel more and more like a ghost town (it already is) and eventually it will just be hethwill and klooth sailing the waters afk liking each others posts on the forums. Sounds fun.
