As long as the average player mentality of "only engage if we've got 2 - 3x the numbers" doesn't change, I wont change my choice of ship. 1v2 - 1v3 is doable (done before), but anything above is just pure zerg. If you take away two of the surps stern chasers you'll have to balance it out in other ways, buff mast thickness or idk. Because otherwise it will just be another ship taking the OW PvP Meta, e.g. Belle Poule, which has way better base stats already. Sidenote: Why does the Trincomalee have no stern chasers? Been wondering for a while. -

I was trying to say, in a duel of Surprise vs Frigate, the Frigate would win farily easily if he knew what he was doing. And if you read my post, I said I would consider taking something else than a Surprise, but the 4 stern chasers give me a good possibility to evade the zerg forces, only interested in 5v1 roflstomps. A cecilia will smash a surprise all day. Way better masts, 12s and 9s compared to the surps 9s and 6s, more crew, more HP... Surprise is no match for a cecilia. lol its not OP. Keep ingoring the facts mate. It has paper masts, weak armor, weak amarment. Any other frigate will smash it if he knows what he's doing, as said before. -

I sail a surprise mostly because 1) I dont have a cecilia anymore and 2) because I play solo most of the times, the 4 stern chasers give me a good chance of getting away from the zerg forces. If it only had two, I might consider sailing a belle poule or something similar. Surprise is no match for an Essex, Pirate Frigate, Belle poule or even Frigate, if the captain knows what he's doing. -

Not really. It still has paper masts that snap when you only look at them. Topmast section takes about 1-2 broadsides from a frigate to take them down. Oh and also 9 and 6 pounders. Not quite what I'd describe as OP -
why bringing ship capture back?

Capping npc ships will take SOME effort, and since you can already buy crappy ships in port for about 50k (which I personally would value more or less equal to wasting 15-25 min to get to a mission, cap a ship and sail it to port), the griefing levels shouldn't be on the same level as it was with the basic cutters, where you could literally take out one after another without any effort required - Also, the repairs will cost something However I think it should be max 5th rates, not 4th rates. Personally I prefer seeing my opponent going down with his ship and make my profit with the combat marks earned. Made about 700-800 Combat marks in the last week, which sell at 4 - 5k each- 133 replies

Apparently capping AI ships up to 4th rates will come back this week, according to Naval Action on Twitter

It was suggested before to implement trading to battle instances - So you could have a chat with your opponent and try to make a deal, "if you pay 150k i'll let you go" or something

lol pls there are far better peeps out there at demasting ^^ and yeah I think buffing HP is the way to go. stop messing with thickness please. I would had to do the math to figure out if it'd be worth it to get pen. modules, since Im mostly using a surprise. Think it wouldnt change much tbh, when only having 1-2 mods

Meh I dont really support the idea of telling the players what nation they MUST play.. Let them some freedom. But I think it would be good to have small DYNAMIC bonusses to smaller nations which make them more attractive to join.

I kinda agree with OP. Had several battles where I was (most likely) facing fir-fir ships, and as soon as it got hairy for them (because they're that weak of a build) they would just start running, as rigging can be repaired every 10 minutes.. You can even take off the midmast section of a ship with not that much of a meaning for the battle.. just use some special NA Glue and your masts will look fine again in no time. -

nah not true, I was being too cocky, saw 4 brits coming at us 3, thought we could have a good fight, Didn't see the other guys on the horizon, which joined in late. -
So in todays Hotfix, most speed mods have been nerfed quite badly, to 1-2% buff each and with severe downsides. Now, this might look good at first glance, but when you look at it closely, you'll find that it didn't help much after all. In the end, medium - big groups will still stack as many speed upgrades as possible to get as close to the maximum speed as possible, and then only engage a smaller force, which they know they'll win against anyway. I'll let you decide whether or not this is good gameplay. To me it isn't. Before the Wipe we only ever had two Speed Upgrades - Copper plating (3% Speed Buff in the end iirc) and Speed Trim (5%? but also -10% HP) - pretty much everyone had Copper Plating on his ship, as it was easily accessable (craftable). Speed Trim seemed to be used pretty rarely, as the 10% HP tradeoff was quite big. We never had the issues of a Speed-Meta in the extent of now (or yesterday), simply because we only had one or two speed mods available. Now there are plenty (Copper Plating, Gazelle, Crooked Hull, Bovenwind, Art of Proper Cargo Distrubition, ...) This allows a much bigger range of ships to reach a speed they would have never been able to before patch. Suggestion: Can't we just get rid off any additional Speed Modules except Copper Plating (and maybe Speed Trim with the -10% HP penalty)? Gameplay seemed much healthier before the wipe. Now we have imaginary Figureheads, refits, skillboks, etc.., not really needed IMO Copper Plating would have to be made more accessable then obviously, rather than having it drop in pve missions only with a very low droprate. Opinions?

I think it was way better when we only had Copper plating and Speed Trim Upgrade (-10% HP) for speed mods. If you don't give the playground to even allow a 15 knot speed meta, it can't even evolve. edit: BUT PLEASE, then make copper plating accessable!! Not only through dull pve grinding with a droprate of 0.01% -

I was british indeed but since the wipe it doesnt fit my playstyle anymore, would have to afk sail 3h a day if i wanted to play as I used to before (being a brit doesnt automatically mean you're a greenzone camper ) . Danes just have way better outpost opportunities for OW pvp across the map. Oh and I dont really care what flag Im flying as long as I get good pvp and action. -

You can already go and raid a nations waters and go for their players. Or do you want those raids versus AI described by admin some while ago? The game lets you play as a proper pirate IF YOU WANT TO already. Just need to actually play the game. PvE raids will become boring pretty fast, while raiding a nations waters still hasnt become boring to me after 4k+ hours of playing the game. Please dont allow teleport to freeport without limitations. -

situational awareness and thinking a few steps ahead are key skills that have to be learned over time - Otherwise winning a battle where you're being outnumbered wouldn't happen -
