"Fire as she bears!!!"
Henry d'Esterre Darby replied to Æthlstan's topic in Current Feature Improvement Suggestions
Why would I ever use any mode other than the one you're proposing? It's basically auto-aim and auto-fire once the pickle has been mashed. -
open Apology .....

I think this has run its course. Thank you for apologizing! -
No. The use of the N word is absolutely prohibited in the game in any context. Usage of period "names" for nationalities is generally seen as ok. There's a difference between making fun of a nationality and making fun of someone based on the color of their skin, their gender, etc. While both were done during that period, we do need to place limits for everyone's enjoyment - the limit currently is set that making fun of a character's nationality is ok (within reason), making fun of their gender, skin color, sexual orientation, etc. is not.

Not very accurate. Someone will need to refine this further, but "reefers to knot and splice" or something involving "bend a new main'sl/driver/stun'sl" would be more appropriate. Edit - "Climb the rigging" would be said more like "away aloft" Additions: Action: Boarding Focus - "Boarders make ready!" Action: Increase Sail (W) - "Hands to make sail" Action: Decrease Sail (S) - "Hands reduce sail" (not sure if reduce is the correct word here) Action: Left Rudder - "Port your helm" Action: Load Chain - "Fire high boys" Action: Neutralize Rudder - "Dyce, very well dyce" (this actually meant to maintain the current aspect with respect to the wind, but it would work well in the game I believe) Action: Neutralize Rudder - "Helm Amidships" Action: Repair Sails - "Reefers to knot and splice" Action: Repair Sails - "Bend a new main'sl" Action: Right Rudder - "Starboard your helm" Condition: Boarding Commences - "Make her fast, boarders away!" Condition: Enemy Crew Shock - "There's blood flowing from his scuppers!" Condition: Enemy Reload Shock - "That got their bloody heads down!" Condition: Flooding Fully Pumped Out - "Pumps are sucking sir!" Condition: Flooding Increasing and at 25% - "Two foot in the well sir, and gaining." Condition: Flooding Decreasing and at 25% - "Two foot in the well sir, and falling." Condition: Flooding Increasing and at 50% - "Six foot in the well sir, and gaining." Condition: Flooding Decreasing and at 50% - "Six foot in the well sir, and falling." Condition: Flooding Increasing and at 75% - "Ten foot in the well sir, she's gonna founder!" Condition: Flooding Decreasing and at 75% - "Ten foot in the well sir, and falling." (Depths may have to be adjusted per ship rating - use your judgment.) Condition: Mast Falls - "Cut free that wreckage!"

It's not ignorant at all. FPS is completely dependent on your local computer's hardware and settings - it has nothing to do with network latency (ping). I understand you have a fairly nice machine, however, the game's graphics are still undergoing optimizations. You can not expect to compare FPS in Naval Action with other established, tuned games. This is early access.

Niagara Status!
Henry d'Esterre Darby replied to Kawa Ahangar's topic in Current Feature Improvement Suggestions
"Back" into shallow water battles. The ship has never been allowed into shallow water battles in the first place. I think the concern is that she may be a bit overpowered for that. There is a new feature that will restrict port battles to different depth classes coming in shortly. The bigger question will be which depth is she assigned to, and is that depth acceptable for her capabilities. -

I'm present in a lot of threads, however, I don't see every post made in every thread on these forums. Challenge my credibility if you like sir, but if I didn't see it, and it wasn't reported, I can't very well have taken any action on it. I'll add that I don't know where that content comes from as you didn't provide a link, however, if it was made in the course of a general thread, it has a lot more content and credibility than a poll placed in suggestions with the sole purpose of removing a nation in the game, especially when posted by someone who has been quite active in stirring the pot recently - someone who has started two different threads to attack the faction that they are suggesting be removed. Moderation is a lot more than black and white, yes and no: a lot of context and derivation of intent is applied when content is being reviewed. If you're going to make suggestions that go hand in hand with heavy trolling in other areas of the forum, you can certainly expect your suggestions to be scrutinized more closely when they touch on the areas you have been trolling. Thank you. -

I'm sorry, having reviewed the post in question, I entirely disagree with your assertion. The post was designed, written, and intended to incite a negative emotional response in a large portion of the player base. The wording, the content, in fact the entire post was designed for you to take National News content out of National News and put it in a place where the opposition couldn't respond in kind. Had this same suggestion been made at any other time in the game about any other Nation that was in a bad position, I would have hidden it as well. You may appeal this above me if you like by PMing Admin, but after review, I agree entirely with locking and hiding your post.- 5 replies

As you may have noticed from this morning's reopening of National News, those threads were left for a reason. Besides, my popcorn was getting stale and my arse too sore from this hard seat. Moderation is conducted in response to user feedback. Many users have indicated that they do not like the lack of political posts and the inability to engage with each other on a more, well, personal level. It has been rightly pointed out that 18th century nations and their citizens regularly sparred with each other through broadsheets, newspapers, and the like. In that spirit, with Admin's direction, we have been allowing users to be a little more free with each other in certain areas of the forums - namely National News and the Guilds forum. Users are encouraged to utilize those boards to poke fun at each other and engage in light Forum PvP. Direct personal insults should continue to use the Naval Action Insult Generator (http://wiredstar.com/NAInsults), and other rules must also be followed. Additionally, decorum should be maintained as if you're writing for an 18th Century Newspaper. Baby eating cowards - ok. Raw profanity - F*** you you f***ing f***s, not ok. Users who would prefer not to engage in forum PvP or who are easily insulted may want to hide the National News and Guild boards. We appreciate your feedback regarding our moderation. Additional feedback here is welcome. Have a great week, and good hunting.

Regarding National News
Henry d'Esterre Darby replied to admin's topic in News Announcements & Important discussions
They did actually. Many of the United States' founding fathers wrote letters to newspapers under pseudonyms. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Silence_Dogood- A fine example. -
Do you have any game controllers or other peripherals on your computer that may be sending clicks or other keystrokes unexpectedly?

Rules change today now allows you to fire on a green ship that is acting to obstruct or otherwise prevent you from fighting the enemy. This ruleset will be in force at least until some other features, including alliances, come out. Two pirates attack each other to prevent you from attacking them, and then the one on your team starts trying to interfere? You can now blast him. Calls for bans will not be heeded in this matter.

Pve server sub forum please
Henry d'Esterre Darby replied to Codie's topic in Forum and website problems and improvements
It may be possible to have a PvE specific feedback thread for patch changes, and it is obvious that some changes affect the two server styles quite differently. I'll see what we can do. -

Please read the response that I wrote in the linked post above. To the OP: We don't need to add it specifically, harassment and abuse are already not tolerated. Thank you for posting. -
New Picture of the new Forts for Port-Battles
Henry d'Esterre Darby replied to Thonar's topic in Tavern
hehe, reminds me of a hedgehog. -
Determination is as follows: It is perfectly within the mechanics of the game at this time to lure another player in this way. Saying "I'm using an exploit!" is usually trolling. In the absence of any video or other evidence, the admission is pretty baseless. Unfortunately you were caught up in a betrayal - it happens from time to time. Case dismissed.

Port Conquest timers

Please use an existing thread for suggestions regarding port timers. I'd recommend responding directly to Admin's latest potential feature feedback thread in the Developer forum. Thank you. -
Forum Suggestion
Henry d'Esterre Darby replied to Blkmgc's topic in Forum and website problems and improvements
Steam has everything to do with that function. Forum Account ID -> Steam Account ID -> Game Database. There is currently no way to figure out the link between forum account and steam account, and therefore no way to link forum account to the characters/nations of a particular player.
