  1. Then the system is perfect as is. Variety everywhere, baseline 3/5 guaranteed. SOLs can be captured in Peace server, in War server they must be built. Gather up with a clan and build them. They are your clan flagships. Play solo, acquire a 74 gun 3rd rate from the admiralty.
  2. number 4 has a dedicate server for them the rest take a risk when they press sail, whatever ruleset. Read what i wrote. PvP when want and when others want, is PvP.
  3. People willing to PvP brings more PvP, whether they want to PvP or when others also want to PvP, even if they don't want to PvP. Alas they in a PvP environment with imminent PvP when they least expect. Not only PvP when they want to PvP. That's what brings more PvP. Whatever ruleset.
  4. Meaningful OW and RvR. All good. MMO gimmicks, no. 0,01% is good. 5% is not.
  5. oh man how i long for a 1:1 no instance world, none of those issues would happen .... because they are no issues
  6. *chuckles* Yep, everyone has their own vision
  7. "Can't help my friends!"... ( says the guy 2 hours away, the guy sitting in port, and similar )
  8. You trying to convince yourself of the righteous cause you defend or the developer/design team of the correct course of action ?
  9. No you dont. Do not for a moment believe that.
  10. You bypass an entire chain of production with 1 npc SOL capture. That's not balanced. Up to 5th rate included is working perfectly.
  11. *sigh*... One broadside from el gamo messed up the entire rigging of the speedy. That's what I expect to happen if you go hug a constitution in your xebec. I expect worse if i go hug a LGV in my privateer. The game does not present you the entire rigging system lines and shrouds and block, hence the damage abstractly represents a lot of it. I expect the weight of shot to do what is expected, especially to the soft parts. ... I have no clue about mmos man, but i know multiplayer a group starts with 2 player playing together.
  12. Then no problem if ships were 0/0 Same vein of thought.
  13. Automatic for PBs. Agreed. Automatic in OW PvP along your friends !? Why ? Sharing is caring.
  14. Yes of course. Was never against that, actually i hoped it would be included. Musketry at 100m ranges is a must have. Very age of sail. but, regarding the OP subject... ... too many solos. And that's by choice and NOT because they may or may not enter battles. Funny how gamers can be "anti social" and refuse to spend time with others. And I don't mean voice comms. Players can sail with each other and do hunt, search and destroy, and eventually bump into enemies while not using voice at all.
  15. That's why we should test broadside weight asap. But i fear too many sols... beauty and the beast...
  16. It is my point of view. I'm not a fan of endless ships arena game ( or tanks, or planes, or whatever... i simply hate those games). I like the survival aspect in games and the wargame that means defeat of enemies, by various means. You have a different point of view. I'm glad we can expose them and acknowledge the differences.
  17. Lineships should be the bread and butter of Conquest, not OW. They are too fast, the turning ( regarding it is a game ) is acceptable, especially given they can rear at fabulous speeds and anchor in the eye of the wind without leeway even. ( all ships do though ) When they form in a line, a battle fleet, they perform as expected. All other rates, 4th down to 7th should be the bread and butter of open sea warfare, as they suit solo and group gameplay.
  18. Any ruleset relies on player willing to play it. I will say that any ruleset that grants every player everything will be the most played by the masses. This is obvious. Once we have everything we will need something else. And no amount of ships, doubloons or paints will ever replace the sense of achievement. That sense is gone when it become commonplace. So, as i see it, acting attacker, organizing the clan, going for hostility, being in battles open to being invaded by enemy players and having to fight twice the number of ships, and then having to fight a PB against a equal fleet, demands recognition by the admiralty. If attacks reward the effort more clans will attack. If more clans attack there are more conquest battles. If clan decides not to defend then they lose the port. GL playing a game to lose. ( makes zero sense )
  19. Yes, but golden setup make any mistakes the veteran might make, irrelevant, when faced with equally skilled but ungeared opponent. Is really about "easy to forgive mistakes" made by a captain during battle versus the costly mistakes when no gear. One may make mistakes but be relatively safe from doing them, and even give himself the luxury to make them, because he knows the gear will give relative safe outcome. Mistakes in age of sail were costly.
  20. All right. I accept your view as being better then. You already thinking of meta and how to deny gameplay with yer tricks. All good.
  21. Then read again. Attacker bets a fleet. Which gets replaced IF ships sink, by ship notes, not the same ship - only IF they lose. If attacker wins, they loot what they may, randomly from warehouses and docks - impossible to loot all the stuff. If Defender wins, they lose nothing including keeping the port with everything it has. After all they just have to sit tight and wait for PB. Risk of being attacker is 3:1 odds in favor of defender ( hostility + screen + PB vs PB )
  22. Gives way to "alt clans" making deals. That's why we can't have nice things. But... The reward for attacker victory must excel wild dreams and HURT the enemy profoundly. Loot enemy player warehouses, capture ships in docks if attacker, stuff that hits hard the enemy clan. The Attacker bets all with hostility, screening, and whatnot, the defender has a shorter road to follow. Additionally for the Attacker, ships lost in the battle would be replaced by a ship note of the same model IF the Attacker loses. So, if attacker wins, he robs a ton of stuff from the Defender - so you better Defend and make sure you do win. If attacker loses but fights bravely, the nation council back in europe sees fit to replace their losses for a new campaign.
