Price of the Night Timers

No one wants to lose, but everyone expects to win. Right ? While one can have a good attitude while playing a game, one also has to practice different ways of playing and trying to win. No one needs to the a "crush all enemies before you" but one doesn't need to "cuddle them and nourish them". This is in a 1v1 or in a 25v25 or in a 4v1. The end is the same. Naval combat in the grand age of sail, no matter what labels you want to put it. Say a gamer goes to play a napoleonics scenario where he has to face three armies all at once, the outcome, more often than not is a loss. But it doesn't mean necessarily it is a waste of time. Where did the attitude of - "you got me this time sir, but let me practice a bit more and we shall meet again ! GG " - went to ? I mean, the guy lost but he has the willingness to learn the game more to provide a better challenge. Same applies to the other side - salute your opponent, and carry on. Salt and vinegar villainy is okay, plain online toxicity shuns more people than not. Most come here for a age of sail vibe, not for some teenz my dad is better than yours. Once they get faced by that, it is easy to kickstart a reduction of interest in the War server and two things happen, they go Peace or they stop and go play some other historical game. NA community is like a stream. At low tide the garbage in the bottom looks like something. When full with water no one notices it is there. -
Why do you punish yourself by watching those but refuse to be punished in NA ? ... you looney...

People's decisions... are not game mechanics. Not wanting to do something in game is a human issue, not a game mechanics issue. Sandbox NA offers any players the choices to select what one wants to do. A newcomer might get confused, a veteran never. Community made diplomacy, and honouring the deals, leads to a lot less war. Say you have 50 ports in your time you can attack, but you "can't" because you honour some diplomatic deal... I think the design team made the right choice when they made all nations enemies. Technically they transferred the decision to us, the players, if we really want to fight or not. ( i still don't believe in clanwars as a flagship for conquest albeit all anti.alt benefits ) -
Lack of patience and perseverance ( this in regards of learning the game as is ) and wish to really learn the game at War server level - OW and RvR PB. Battles designed to last, possibly 90 minutes. If anything lasts more than 15 most of them will "escape" the battle. There are exceptions but they are too few to counter the herd. Nevermind ability to control the ships and wind and whatnot. If at 5 minutes into the battle they already bored, nothing can help... Just my 2 cents first hand testimony while US a couple months ago and randomly going up there to give them a hand versus the usual raiders... Let alone the "don't attack ! it's a trap!" mentality . Even the most basic "gamey" concept of setting up a revenge web seems alien - you see all escapees making a beeline back to port... But, on the other hand they are the most roleplayish of communties, in general, which I really really appreciate more than all the uberskillzorz out there. ( they can also be the most offensive nation chat though ) But things are going to change i'm sure. It is NA cycle.

Clan Docks
Hethwill, the Red Duke replied to Slim McSauce's topic in Current Feature Improvement Suggestions
Hence the "dock space" donation to the clan by players. Becomes common Clan dock space. Not additional dock space. Sorry. I'll just leave. This is not my beach. -
On reclassing certain ships
Hethwill, the Red Duke replied to Tom Farseer's topic in Patch Feedback and General discussions
I also feel that any of us isn't hurting a Nation when we hit enemy shipping... and to quote myself "poor bastard". His Nation won't feel a thing, while he/she will. But that has nothing to do with the ship reclassing though. sorry for OT.- 18 replies

Clan Docks
Hethwill, the Red Duke replied to Slim McSauce's topic in Current Feature Improvement Suggestions
Let each clan member have the option to donate from his own dock space to the clan. Example - I have 15 docks. I donate 5 docks to the clan. The clan has now 5 docks. I have 10. -
On reclassing certain ships
Hethwill, the Red Duke replied to Tom Farseer's topic in Patch Feedback and General discussions
1st rate 100 guns good tides and wind were what ? 6 knots ? 7 ? 3rd rate 74's... 10 ? 12 in the most auspicious of days never to be repeated ? There's no question about the lethality of 74 gun and 98 gun and 100 gun ships in NA and they can handle very well in the line of battle. Even the 64/68 gun ships can fit in and do their job. But sorry, ships of the line doing the jobs it should be the frigates doing "because they are more weatherly by design" ( lower hull, etc ) .... *sigh*... Just look at the war after William took the throne, when the french almost, just almost, managed to blockade England of trade supplies ( very much like the germans copied twice in the 20th century ). Was it by using SOLs ? No. Was by using frigates and damn good ones.- 18 replies

I don't think the Constitution is slow per se, just that the ships of the line are too fast.- 18 replies

Imagine yourself, standing at the quarterdeck, ordering the signals to the fleet. Imagine a captain in the fleet ships using a spyglass to see your signal and interpreting them. I like the idea of having the opportunity to order fleet into a tack or course - simple added options of port/starboard broad/beam/close haul.

Nation Policy System
Hethwill, the Red Duke replied to OjK's topic in Current Feature Improvement Suggestions
No single player, or clanned group of players has the power, or should have the power, to dictate external politics of a nation, only European Powers can do that and hope the Colonies adapt. And this can only be done with curated "storyline" and shaking any status quo to the core via multiple types of events such as: - european wars extending to the west indies ( 7 years war for example, also nowadays called as world war zero ) - famine, resources shortages, or new veins of ores found somewhere - and whatever else could be adapted - outcomes of those and lasting consequences to both be shaped and shape the future curated content But this is just wishful thinking as semi-curated content requires a lot of work from dedicated writer/coder group. As we have it now is simply ... as the community wishes ( and it reduces alt/exploit powers ). But I also would wish in a more historical setting, and not so much India Companies ( clans ) power. -
Death to the non-believers
Hethwill, the Red Duke replied to traitorous mctraitoro's topic in Caribbean News
In the end enemy player is enemy player no matter how much you want to paint it sink, get sunk, stop with excuses for not engaging in pvp, raids, conquest, whatever. have fun, nothing is lost, just a game of shooting each other ships. Like in any game in any type of media, there's always a faction that steamrolls, but smaller factions can engage in OW asymmetrical pvp, and gank the shit out of the big boys when caught with pants down. no mercy. -
Price of the Night Timers
Hethwill, the Red Duke replied to OjK's topic in Current Feature Improvement Suggestions
Having played both at the same time, I'd say the population in one or the other was more due to old allegiances than timer situation, so there were clans that moved from pvp3 to pvp2 and then stayed when it went Global. Global had EU/US/OCE players. EU server was more EU CET oriented, which for a GMT guy doesn't cut it - and that is only 1 hour difference ! That's how far EU server went. Not against the tests, but personally for me is a no go. This is not a game like IL-2 where ppl can host their own servers with their own rules to fit themselves. -

Hethwill, the Red Duke replied to OjK's topic in Current Feature Improvement Suggestions
Interesting idea, but what if a clan is worldwide ? Can remember a couple with EU/US/OCE members with shared responsabilities ( within the clan ) in the ports they controlled. But yeah, guess they can make 3 clans, one per zone. -
I think you misunderstood. US, in map start ( and now ) is all about East coast Conquest. They have one way out and enemies have one way in. Compared to Sweden or Denmark, for example, which are immediately on map start, trapped between 3 enemies - France, Denmark and Dutch for Sweden, and Spain, Sweden and Dutch for Denmark. How the map evolves is all how players act or what they can achieve.
