PvP1 Sweden at war with the Dutch
Hethwill, the Red Duke replied to Admiral Jacob Bagge's topic in National news
For PvP ? Not true. There are three types of pvp players, those that enjoy the big fleet actions like Port Battles and massive flag interceptions with Trafalgar fleets, those that enjoy frigate action, corsair attacks ( so far no dutch privateer captain has ever jumped a mission, only open world tag ) and finally those that don't...do...any. Now, if a non pvp player spends the entire time capturing 3rd rates to feed those that will put them to use, that is good. But I guess you cannot capture Pavels nor Vics, and I am sure many names sailing on one of these have been seen around Coquibacoa and never seen in a port battle. So... pvp or what ? Take all of this with a gallant heart by the way. It is great to have a war or else we all fall into the trade/mission sleep mode. -
Ability to re-roll
Hethwill, the Red Duke replied to CaptBligh's topic in Current Feature Improvement Suggestions
You have a ONE TIME ONLY ( you cannot request it again ever ) chance to request a full wipe of your account from what I have seen written in other threads similar to this. Contact the devs to see it done. -
PvP1 Sweden at war with the Dutch
Hethwill, the Red Duke replied to Admiral Jacob Bagge's topic in National news
Idea for hiclupucli: Sail up to the corsair haven at Island Harbor - find it on the map. Once there give a call on nation chat. There are enough ships up there to group up and you may actually do something beneficial in a pvp server. Or if you are not into open sea pvp then grab all your attitude and get into port battles or screening fleets. ... *sigh* ... I do solemnly swear if the Nation gets steamrolled I will take the black and will hunt you dutch nation traitor PvE types every single time I am online. All I need, because that is actually all that is needed, is one ship and one free harbor. And best of all I know exactly where to find you. Now, you going to actually fight other players or migrate to a PvE server ? -

Hot sauce stuff. I was amazed when the machine went *ping* and was brought here to witness the very first edition of Port Morant Open Air. -

This is probably the most sane post in this part of the forum in a while. Sums OW Naval Action pretty well. -
My suggestions
Hethwill, the Red Duke replied to Staal Carsten's topic in Current Feature Improvement Suggestions
Yours is not a point of view. It is simply a slight motion of air coming out of a stern rack. Incredible how you take advantage of the global village and complain about it. *shrugs* Welcome to Naval Action. This is a great game like no other. Take your time to join us all and play it together. -
It surely doesn't mimic history, gladly, but having a strong startup based in history is okay. Main issue is the "nationalism" but that is a silly player issue in a global village. When the main internal diplomacy thread of a nation is dealt in the REAL WORLD nation language without concern for the international game nation player base you know that nation is doomed.

Capping a port solo?
Hethwill, the Red Duke replied to Justme's topic in Patch Feedback and General discussions
Have yet to finish it solo though but was possible to tank 2 towers while going in abeam, roughly 11.2 knt on a live oak planking build. Last tower it focused some snows, put two running for their lives. Crew loss was the worst of it all, quite nasty, not the timbers getting shattered. But was before the patch so have yet to retry. On that maybe the big ships of the line gain something for having multiple decks and crew more spread out ? Still it is a bit silly to go with 1 ship. -
Abuse of Pirate Attacking eachother
Hethwill, the Red Duke replied to Lord Roberts's topic in Tribunal - Трибунал
When being tagged in the OW: - block any entrance in battles or ability to tag ( the second ship can still tage at free unless also tagged. subject of teamwork ) should solve three issues in one go. Pirates hugging each other into battle. Nationals entering battles to run. Nationals tagging AI to force a suck-in of all forces around. But I foresee an issue with the counter reset cycle if this would be the case. -
General Rant
Hethwill, the Red Duke replied to ulysse77's topic in Patch Feedback and General discussions
Keep combat and handling in combat with the dynamics we know. Keep it very challenging ( like a proper niche sim ) but not overly technical. Keep it historical and wherever possible cut the arcade corners. Yes, so far great job and will welcome any changes. Regarding OW, this is where the community gets interesting and throw all kinds of ideas. Some of them are really good others are simply very individual "this idea would make the game awesome for me". All in all great debates come from great ideas. Petty disrespect from egotistical suggestions. Keep feeding the hamsters with quality food. Don't get cheap. -
Very good. Suggestion: add also crew numbers to each of batteries by weight and type ( L,M,C ) Salute.

Capping a port solo?
Hethwill, the Red Duke replied to Justme's topic in Patch Feedback and General discussions
1 solid built and upgraded Navy Brig can do it and survive comfortably in a shallow. In a Deep one... can be done for sure the same way although I like the boarding option best. -
[PvP1] France declares war to Britain
Hethwill, the Red Duke replied to Éric's topic in National news

That is because the United Provinces players ( quite a international mix up I must say ), generally speaking, do enjoy the game for what it is. Naval combat during the age of sail. Plus making our nation great while at it. Thank you for the consideration. Hope to see many caballeros kicking some timbers in the future.

[PvP1] France declares war to Britain
Hethwill, the Red Duke replied to Éric's topic in National news
fourteenth day of March, year of Our Saviour two thousand and sixteen To the most gallant captains under the tricoleur banner and to whom it may concern, I write this letter while being absent from service following combat against the swedish forces aboard the UPF Aardwolf King, a Belle Poule class chase frigate, in which we found ourselves rearguarding the escape of a captain aboard a Renomee class. As is per habit of this captain, yours truly in the most honest and gallant ways of engaging the enemy, me and my crew would never give the satisfaction to the enemy of seeing us back down from a fight. Again, and as it is habit in this conflict against the Swedish crown, against the odds which becomes a tradition as 1:8, give or take a ship. I must admire the confidence shown by the Swedish captains and salute their resolute fighting spirit when the numbers are in favor. Our ship was damaged enough to have to limp back to port for extensive repairs after one of the gunpowder magazines erupted of the port side and gave way to a catastrophic chain reaction which severely hampered our condition to continue the fight but not before we gave the enemy a run for their time and the crew put up a furious fire to both boards and even gaining excellent position of attack on a frigate. There was cheers but lasted only until a 74 gun man-o-war managed to reach us and add even more guns to the fight, because the two super frigates were getting ahead of wind already and the frigate was getting in dire straights. (( OOC, durability lost due to explosion )) As we recovered from our wounds, under the divine attention of the nuns at the Abbey of the Hospitaller Sisters and Sacred Heart of Our Saviour in Cariacou, we dispatched a brig to give the dead a proper burial at sea. Upon return of the brig a message was delivered to us that a migrant fleet of Frenchmen was passing through Dutch territory and going West to the old Audiencia of Santa Fé de Bogotá surely to proceed towards the old spanish Audiencia de Panama, both part of the once held spanish Viceroyalty of New Grenada. War, the brig captain says, has been declared by the French on the British colonies, and the United Provinces council has actually allowed them to pass through the territory as a token of friendship and trust. Still, the brig captain went into a more dark tone, there are rebellious movements within the French Nation which never accepted the Eastern Alliance Peace following the events of the Black Weekend and would surely seek to undermine this migration and all efforts of both nations to work together. This latter information is of no suprisse given the exchange of correspondence with valiant and gallant french captains already gave way to honest disclosure of intentions and to warn my fellow captains and traders of possible incursions of these napoleonic corsairs. I must be supportive to the French Nation in their war against the British but also cannot but admire the courage of the rebel captains. Not that I support their cause, quite the opposite, but that in their fighting spirit they fail to direct their energies to the northern agressor which will, no doubt, attack them soon given their need, their very real need, of supplies and production ports. I am sure the United Provinces Council shall give all support to the French Nation when they get attacked by the British-Swedish Pact. After all production is vital for an attrition war, which the Northern aggressors cannot hope to win. My most humble apologies for writing such an extended letter but the down time at the sanatorium caring of my body wounds leaves this captain restless in mind. Once the ship is repaired and the crew fit again it is our intention to reopen our base of operations in the Yucatan coast and from there prey upon all British shipping. Port Battle Timer Sugestion
Hethwill, the Red Duke replied to LionsRoar's topic in Patch Feedback and General discussions
That I agree to a point. AO had and still has one of the most elegant territory control solutions and actually the tower battles alarm gave enough time for everyone to gather up. As we have it the timers can be "distorted", the solution has to be other than timers and as I see it, it is the flag crafting that must be changed. Big problem is that there is no warning. You can buy a flag, plant it and win a PB in half an hour. Now repeat that for a dozen ports and we have what happened on Black Friday. -
Disaster at St George (PVP1)
Hethwill, the Red Duke replied to Admiral Jacob Bagge's topic in National news
Given both nations been fighting for a long time before , respectively against the French on our part and versus the Danes on yours, it is of no suprise that the only stalemate breaker will be port timers. If all timers are set to CET prime time, when everyone can be online from both nations major population ( maybe except the GMT guys ) it will be a push forth and fall back situation all over again. It is not bad at all. Everyone has a share of the fun, more captains will be of rank and more combat follows, which is exactly what naval action is and what pvp nation versus nation is about Despite the glorification of all these moments, and honestly all nations have their share of glory now and then, it is a nice example of the value of ships. All the 3rd rates can be replaced within 1 hour. Kind of silly huh -
Reinforcements are tied to BR. If you attack with less BR the opponent cannot call in reinforcements. This means you will not be able to jump anyone with a full group without having to be faced with reinforcements. Also 2 minutes can be short for support to arrive while a group of corsairs will attack all in a tight pack. So solutions is to workout your BR and go hunting.

I just have been informed that the Nation of Great Britain might have something to do with the doomsday, according to a trader brig captain that just arrived here at the office to deliver some cargo. ( that's what happens when you play NA too much, you start linking people with ships. In this case the TNT dude. Pretty sure all that oranje is highly suspicious... )

Remove Labour hours
Hethwill, the Red Duke replied to Mored's topic in Current Feature Improvement Suggestions
Exactly. 7 days. That is what it takes for a level 50 crafter to give birth to a Santíssima on its own given he has 5 production buildings at max level, including the shipyard, probably have to buy some resources ( or spend time to get them ) plus hours needed to craft notes. That is what Devs want as stated in the patch discussion. I say it is quite a compromise given the 7 years in reality. So let's respect the Devs vision. It is quite solid.
