  1. Despite our own options there is always a financial and technical side of things. Let's say PvP2 remains in place and PvP1 is merged into it, would that be an option ? Or are you really keen on population segregation based on.... !?
  2. That answers quite well why some of us favour Teak over Oak and Planking over Strength. You nail it perfectly on your assessment. You can run tests versus the 24 pounders using Constitutions in the duel room. You will get more answers than a simple post, honest.
  3. I see Marines as a "request" to the Naval Board. Marines should start at the minimum of 48, which was the norm for the RN. Marines and then Royal Marines were deployed in exact numbers. Being the basic 48 ( or 45 if you dismiss the officer and liaisons ) the increased requests can be made at 2x, 4x, 6x, aproximately the maximum in a ship of the line without being setup for specific disembark of troops operations.
  4. I remember long ago of a thread, which many have signed, of a Code of Gentlemanly Conduct. Maybe now it is the time for it to return. Rank, gold, ships... all of that means nothing. Reputation is all.
  5. It is an arena game, no comparison. I support this for PvE server. For the PvP the AI hauling the goods need to be present in the OW and be open to whatever befalls it or arrive safe, one of the two. As it is all nations have free ports quite close to capitals for good hauling. Deliveries already travel the entire map almost, from Cano Macareo to Sunbury. The only thing left to do is haul those last 10 minutes from the free port to the capital or port of choice.
  6. What if the sum of crew of the fleet cannot exceed the Player ship crew ? Say a Captain sailing a LGV, 240 crew, could have a single ship escort up to 240 or two escorts with combined crew of 240 maximum. It would tie to the rank and commanding ship better IMO.
  7. True Michael Frost. Flag Captain would send out the cruisers and not hug them but sure. Also promotion to Post Captain required a feat of gallantry against the odds. It is a compromise, fine with that We the #nofleet folk surely love the game too much not to learn to live with the fleets once more.

  8. That is not entirely correct. Players who only PvP are not punished. Many many players only pvp in both pvp servers. Granted, and in here lies a trap, it is not fair for the just arrived. Many of the mainstay players have ships and cash funds, but in the end they still finish their session with a positive result after all has been paid. You do not need to hire crew all the time by the way. Pay attention to your free crew number and juggle with that. Use ships you can afford, limit losses by running from fights you cannot win without too much bloodshed. Challenging game sometimes, it really is.
  9. Pressed men into service were a minority and subject to menial tasks aboard. Most were not specialists in any field. They can hardly be accounted for. ( game is from 1640 to 1820. Pressing height was 1801 onwards ). Merchantmen "gently" asked to join service were offered a pay up in advance and shared the same prizes as the rest of the crew.
  10. This almost works as a "career" maker. With some of us wanting a more Admiralty oriented career in the fighting navy and others probably wanting to go down a Merchant Navy path, etc.
  11. With crew loss being a strong concern for any captain and admiral there should be room enough for a return of ramming leaks.
  12. What is the opposite of ganking ?
  13. Piracy is a state of "mind", a playstyle. Do not get drawn into the notion of nation but also be a companion if a brother or sister is in need. Live off the land.. I mean raids on trade... and keep infrastructure to a minimum. Rely on amount of loot to keep your chest full and do not sail what you cannot sustain - in the case of NA ships that are expensive to repair and that have too much crew. Other than that... Explore the map, sail far and wide, open your piracy havens in the the free ports, one per nation territory and then... then... start the good life. Take what you can and leave the rest for the fish.
  14. Interesting approach to aggressive NPC Everyone will want to have a go at the AI code and slug it off to see how better they become.
  15. That's when he loses the entirety of the crew pool. Doesn't happen all the time.... I hope.
  16. And suddenly regeneration is tied to how gallant the fights were !...No gallantry no regeneration... ... total joke I want to know also.
  17. 135 crew amount to 67,500 gold. That's a specially rigged Snake with a Exceptional set of Hammocks. A new player can effectively support the entirety of the crew while learning the game. There is no RUSH to the top. A new player won't be more powerful just because he reaches Admiral. Actually if he learns nothing and only grinds he becomes stuff of legend in gank banter and how many Santissimas and Vic are captured everyday.
  18. Exactly my thoughts. The small percentages means, at a math level, they will be able to change the tide spectacularly sometimes, hero stuff, but not in a consistent form as we have now.
  19. Roger that. Was thinking ahead of time. Is it August already ?
  20. There's no more flags. All Conquest will be driven by Hostility factors. Once it reaches the threshold an attack can be announced. Cool down is 3 days despite hostility level. That's my deduction. I hope it is correct.
  21. Yes but if they are able to contain the leaks and start pumping it the Surrender option gets enabled again. I agree with the burning.
  22. Some of them are indeed. Others not so much. But I only remember the ones that are.
  23. Getting a LGV with a sloop or a brig is another subject entirely, yes it is.
  24. A automated White Fleet tag is needed maybe if the cargo hold has only fish ( anything else will break the flag). I hate to interrupt a fisherman thinking it is a traditional trade haul.
  25. I think I did not explain correctly before. The only tweak I see is needed and that can be controlled to an extent by the player, by maximizing or reducing focus amount is the amount of crew that will fight. For example, a ship of 240 men has a specific Boarding focus number. That's the amount of sailors that will go into Boarding action already including any specific outfit like marines or other. As we have all 240 participate in the fight. Is not correct This simple thing would make for a more credible Boarding simulation, despite the mini game which I find okay'ish, and funnel the crew losses due to boarding.
