  1. In the present situation I would advise to balance cost of ship with possible gains / losses. If supporting the loss of a Hercules or similar is too much then level down the ship you use, for now. Practice combat will make perfect, is not a click and things happen. Has a lot to learn and continuous learning as you are face with more dangerous enemies but nothing is impossible as many players daily attest to that. Plus by practising with all ships you get to know the ships strengths and deficiencies for when you are faced with them as enemy. In sum: at the start risk only what you can afford to replace. And keep practicing combat. Try different tactics.
  2. Totally understand it as a customer myself, as far as it goes GL still delivering. NA, UG series, UA AoS seems to be entertaining ( not playing it much until full release ), plus looking forward to Sea Legends ( that's my beach ). I was expecting nothing, and was given a DLC ship pack. Even after they announced the 40 to 50 I would think it could be this or that ship but dunno, never got attached to the idea itself. Mind you, I think the Trinc a ugly frigate ( actually most brittish ones are ); give me a french one any day . Having the original Pomone would be awesome but heh... it is what i is. Another ship for the collection. Maybe some players that do not care a single bit about all the supply chain and crafting business will appreciate it ? Just click button, buy guns and repairs and sail to 5th rate PZ and have their weekly fun.
  3. I honestly put my money that majority assumed something, and when reality didn't meet expectations they threw a fit like kids Would I be happier if Connie DLC would be the gift ? You bet I would. But it isn't. Is the Trinc DLC.
  4. I cannot speak for anyone else as much as you can't. We are individuals. I mean... unless you are player "Lenin God of...". That's legion.
  5. Read Opening Post by devs. Small Home Defense Fleet does not drop anything until developers do something to them, unless they refer only Flags. In any case the Small Home Defense Fleets should not be "attackable" so to limit "easy mode" by taking them on with overwhelming firepower. @admin
  6. Is the most funny carronade "gunboat". And such a lovely model
  7. You are definitely the enlightened one and everyone else is just living in the dark ages. Oh wait, we talking about a game here *phew* ... I thought this was for real ! Out of sarcasm, do not try to justify your opinion, however valid it is, by denigration of all other people. If you are a pro let be it. If others are not, let it so. Play and play more. If not, silence is enough. It is a game after all. And a gift is a gift. Yacht, Pandora, Trinc, all the single ships gifted along the years, etc. Pretty cool that some games do that.
  8. Ingermanland and Wapen jib rig arrangement and stays are a very "old" precursor ( took almost a century to finally get the rig right we get in the napoleonic period ). For one they would have less control on the turns ( yes Wapen, yes... ) and another is go beyond 90º without any kind of effort But hey, don't touch my meta !!!! ( disclaimer: I do not support dlc specifically. I simply do not support magical worlds. But instead of whining too much I whine a bit and always look to way of improving the realism. The more realistic simulation the better my meta. Don't touch my meta !!!! Oh wait... )
  9. You are right. Is just the way questions are made Innocence has a price.
  10. Wooden Chests - Introduce mission Conquest PvP Hunt/Kill - counts unique kills in Port Battles only ( so facing the same PB fleet over and over again does not produce results ) - rewards Wooden Chests after X kills Victory Marks are "regular income" for port control anyway.
  11. Wind / Manoeuvres / Ship rigging / Leeshore / Manual sailing A deep review of amount of sail open to wind in relation to angle to wind in Slow or Battle, for example, it would be less exposed to contrary winds beyond 90º - 65º. At Full the wind force would be the same from both sides at max angle of attack, 65º example, making it much more difficult to go through the eye of the wind ( if at all possible ) at full sail but very possible and controlled to do so at fighting sail. Also a fine increase on the lee effect. On the ship as a whole ( beware the leeshore ) and the bow being turned/pushed downwind ( it does change course ). Wherever possible a captain should be able to counter act the effect by manual rigging control unless angle of attack ( sails to wind ) is just beyond the envelope ( some ships are 70, others can go up to 45 ) and it is up to captain skill. This would affect all rigging types with no benefit, prejudice to any. A very authentic period tactical choice between wearing and changing tack through the wind.
  12. These 2 are answered in the OP. Can go anywhere and get the item. That's how other nations will be able to PB a Impossible nations ( which has no HDF ). Item is bound to the player that looted it. Can't be traded. But yeah, lots of questions arising. Some are definitely looking for loopholes already ... funny ... but majority are very good questions. Suggestion: players cannot attack HDF. Meaning they must open themselves to attack by the HDF. This is to prevent farming of low rank Home defense fleets ( if they also drop flags ) with BIG ranks.
  13. Question: how many flags can be used against one target ? Question2: Player that got the flag has no clan. How will it work out ? Question3: Battle Group has to be clan friend's list or anyone ?
  14. Thank you for this ship. Will have to learn how to play with her. Still remember one of the first times i saw her being superbly handled long long long ago, by @Leviathan, and thought.... now that's an ugly ship that actually moves cool
  15. I am thankful for the free ship, yes. But that's me.
  16. I am very pleased with the overall scenario update. Obviously some things are not on my beach but is okay. Finally the %% tag is in play. For that, and being a Privateer lover, i thank you. I'll have to up my game and make sure i do tag correctly else prey escapes. The RvR... no idea... will have to check eventually. Low rank home defense fleet... okay. Just 2 cents. Say a zone has 10 home fleets. Make 5 deep, 5 shallow. New player experience - first mission - has a flair of HMS Pickle voyage to bring the news home after Trafalgar. Kind of cool. Too many details to write all down atm. But, THANKS FOR THE TRINC !
  17. El Gamo was anchored off the coast. Cochrane raised the American flag to be able to sail to Gamo's position and alongside, after the warning shot from the Gamo. They raised the jack when already under the enemy guns. The Speedy rigging went all to hell, literally lost all rig, given all spanish shot went above the deck. The Gamo captain got killed in the first Speedy broadsides at point blank. Speedy rageboarded, or else it would be boarded itself given the spanish musketry was already taking its toll. Gamo crew surrendered after one brave english crewman, under specific orders of Cochrane did nail down the spanish flag himself throwing the enemy crew into confusion and eventually they ceased to fight - remember that the enemy captain was dead right from the start. It was not a running fight like we have in NA
  18. Correct, was more referring to Redoutable. Readily available means exactly that. 0 or 1
  19. Readily DLC ship versus ship available without need of DLC. DLC 1020 vs no DLC 837. First gets no port qualities, second does. Yep, doesn't look like anything really Have a fine day gentlemen and ladies.
  20. Permits ? I always feel the ship building permit acts as a good abstract decision making element.
  21. Less than 18 pounders carry too little mass. Taking a representative of the period, 21 inches thick at lower gunport level, 18 pounder would struggle. Actually 24 pounder DID struggle for real. Increasing their penetration levels adds more splintering when hitting slight angles and if square, through shot. Given ALL guns can hurt any ship at the moment, taking the norm - notable exceptions and extreme rank disparity ( rank 7 versus rank 1 fully built for thickness ) not considered, why attribute capabilities to cannon that would warp consistent and authentic ( as much as possible in a wargame ) outcomes ? ( talking guns, not ships ) Regrding the "compare to carronade" situation, yeah, i will agree. But the carronade ship relies more on the speed to get to optimal range than range itself, while cannon decidedly needs range to win the exchange and maybe it hasn't the speed to keep itself out of the carronade. Not sure if increasing output of smaller mass is a good idea. Regarding the original post... If the 3rd Rate becomes the Crafted ship that acts as counter balance option for DLC Redoutable/Implacable - just because of the 36 pounder - sure... why not.
