Nope, actually the opposite. Make the hunters get out of the zones unless they are brave and daring enough to prove the intent - press attack and be drawn as a group. Want to act tough guy ? Go hunt or go conquest somewhere else. Simple, effective and kills two hares with a stroke.

Forts still shoot green on green
Hethwill, the Red Duke replied to Gott365's topic in Current Feature Improvement Suggestions
Fort commander *clicks* ships and sees the info card... it reads "Enemy Player"... he immediately orders all the batteries to fire at the closest one. The sooner it ends one of the ships with appropriate decorum and heated shot the better, and he can go back to his nap. Replacing player choices - in this case of engaging or not a enemy player near a common enemy fort - with protective measure is weakening the decision making and risk management to dumb and dumber levels. -
Did you read the OP or just.... post... ?... I mean, ain't hard to read but to answer you - Reinforcements are NOT replacements. I tend to see a continued misinterpretation on what reinforcement means... Le Sigh®

Good. Means players have choices. Some might not be as popular as others but they are also viable, maybe not metaboyz toyz, but viable. -
Also the oak one. That is a good point. Where does the "economical meaningful model" starts and stops. 1 month into the wipe ( with added redeemable help packs ) warehouse were already packed with "infinite" resources. I am looking to the top end spectrum, "the end game" players, the "have it all" ad infinitum.

means targets are sailing with it, meaning they are coming your way, meaning you sail less for more ?

Chance, Captain White commanding, 94 lives, 16 guns, 12 and 6-pounder carronades. - Vice-Admiral Sir Roger Curtis, Bart., Commander-in-Chief of His Majesty's ships and vessels at the Cape of Good Hope, who writes from Capetown on December 20th, 1801, to Evan Nepean, Esq., Secretary to the Admiralty, as follows: - letter from Mr. William White, commander of the Chance private ship of war, fitted out at the Cape of Good Hope, to Vice-Admiral Sir Roger Curtis, Bart: "At four p.m. on August 19th (1801), the island St. Laurence bearing N.E. two leagues, saw a large ship bearing down upon us. At nine brought her to close action, and engaged her within half pistol-shot for an hour and a half, but finding her metal much heavier than ours, and full of men, boarded her on the starboard quarter, lashing the Chance's bowsprit to her mizzen-mast, and, after a desperate resistance of three-quarters of an hour, beat them off the upper deck; but they still defended from the cabin and lower deck with long pikes in a most gallant manner, till they had twenty-five men killed and twenty-eight wounded, of whom the captain was one. Getting final possession, she was so close to the island that with much difficulty we got her off shore, all her braces and rigging being cut to pieces by our grape-shot. She proved to be the new Spanish ship Amiable Maria, of about 600 tons, mounting fourteen guns, 18, 12, and 9-pounders, brass, and carrying 120 men, from Concepcion bound to Lima, laden with corn, wine, bale goods, etc. On this occasion, I am much concerned to state, Mr. Bennett, a very valuable and brave officer, was so dangerously wounded that he died three days after the action; the second and fourth mates, Marine officer, and two seamen badly wounded by pikes, but since recovered. On the 20th, both ships being much disabled, and having more prisoners than crew, I stood close in and sent eighty-six on shore in the large ship's launch to Lima. We afterwards learned that seventeen of the wounded had died. "At 4 a.m. on September 24th, standing in to cut out from the roads of Puna, in Guaiquil Bay, a ship I had information of, mounting twenty-two guns, fell in with a large Spanish brig, with a broad pendant at maintopmast-head. At five she commenced her fire on us, but she being at a distance to windward, and desirous to bring her to close action, we received three broadsides before a shot was returned. At half-past five, being yardarm and yardarm, commenced our fire with great effect, and, after a very severe action of two hours and three-quarters, during the latter part of which she made every effort to get away, I had the honour to see the Spanish flag struck to the Chance. She proved to be the Spanish man-of-war brig Limeno, mounting eighteen long 6-pound guns, commanded by Commodore Don Philip de Martinez, the senior officer of the Spanish Marine on that coast, and manned with 140 men, sent from Guaiquil for the express purpose of taking the Chance, and then to proceed to the northward to take three English whalers lying in one of their ports. She had fourteen men killed and seven wounded; the captain mortally wounded, who died two days after the action. The Chance had two men killed and one wounded, and had only fifty men at the commencement of the action; mounting sixteen guns, 12-and 6-pounders." _______________________________ http://www.cambridge.org/pt/academic/subjects/history/military-history/privateers-and-privateering also available in https://www.gutenberg.org

[PvP] France-Spain / Declaration
Hethwill, the Red Duke replied to LADY CASSARD's topic in Caribbean News
You mean Spain didn't control and defend a vast colonial empire that extended from the Floridas to the Guyana !? 😮 Or that Curacao wasn't once taken by one single RN frigate !? Wow... Or you mean "in game" storyline ? http://forum.game-labs.net/topic/5977-petition-to-rename-this-game-to-all-vs-british/ ( -

... make the leap of faith and lets end this once and for all. If people want to live in the capitals all the time, let them. I suggest the following changes to how the Zones work - remove the extra zones. One nation one zone, not two separate ones. So no Belize, New Orleans, Campeche. - end the separation between Reinforcement and Capital zones. Make them all the same. - no fishing possible in the Zone - enemy players can press Attack against any ship in the zone - enemy ships cannot enter any ongoing battle happening in the enemy Zone - raiders must stick together and get pulled together, declaration of intent. Press Attack, stick together, no more OW battle invasion easy farming. - zone nation players can call reinforcements as normal when they are attacked - keep as it is now. - player of the Nation zone can enter at any time.

Longer Day/night cycles!
Hethwill, the Red Duke replied to Jack Wheeler's topic in Current Feature Improvement Suggestions
Plenty of chases ( technically the ships were already engaged ) lasted during across days and nights. Not much different from a tag and the battle lasting through the night day cycles. I think we have the balance between what a lot of ppl like - some darkness, the lamps going on, etc - and the fellows that don't like it. Gameplay compromise that doesn't really affect the game focus on age of sail engagements. -
Some EA games wipe all the time, especially at major updates 😎 I remember one dev saying in one of the podcasts that he likes to remember the players, via development phase wipes, that the game is not released and under development. He chuckled in a teasing trollish way but the truth is they wipe a lot anyway, so everything as intended. NA is not that game but is also under development and on EA. We testing and we know that eventually only rank and craft level are safe. So better get used to the idea that everything might be... on borrowed time. Tic tac...tic tac...

Privateer
Hethwill, the Red Duke replied to PG Monkey's topic in Current Feature Improvement Suggestions
I think the initial propose is not to create whole new system, but to give a decisive variety at the schooner/sloops. Not really to start giving away guns to everything. While the Essex can be discussed has having bow chasers as recorded in one of the cruises a similar situation could be said about the Surprise and 12 pounder guns. If you look to the entire frigate line there's a good variety, each with more or less aficionados but all of them are rather unique in their own way, with or without chasers - no bow gun ports give you auto control. You have a wide spectrum, from cruiser frigates up to heavy frigates, from 26 guns up to 46 guns, all in the same rating. The 7th rates, as someone posted above, need a little retouch and PG offers a nice little add for it. Will it make more people use them ? No idea, they always been a "specialist" ship although the Pickle is definitely a much better option than a Cutter at almost the same cost and should be encouraged. -
WAR of the LOVERS! Spain VS France
Hethwill, the Red Duke replied to Admiral Horatio Hornblower's topic in Caribbean News
Join date means the date of when character was created. Deleting character and creating a new one will show the most recent date although the captain can be a hardy thick skinned veteran. Just so you know, carry on. -
Fleet Ship Crews
Hethwill, the Red Duke replied to a topic in Current Feature Improvement Suggestions
As long as each ship has 70% of crew it can leave port, so you can play around with the numbers at your own risk. Being a multiplayer game, a fleet, in the sense of a full flag squadron at least will never be possible solo but requires a team of players. What is possible for a solo is having a ship of the line with brig or sloops as tenders. Remember: OW travel speed is always done using the speed of the slowest ship at any given wind angle. Example, a L'Ocean and 2 Lynx tenders will sail at L'ocean speed when upwind and using Lynx speeds downwind. -

Privateer
Hethwill, the Red Duke replied to PG Monkey's topic in Current Feature Improvement Suggestions
My thinking was "natural" - Cutter----> Pickle-----> Privateer but i'm fine with the present situation. The ships without bow gun ports have control and that is worth statues of gold.
