  1. If the map is so tiny, why are you worrying about navigation to begin with? Even the hardcore navigation enthusiasts want a better compass.
  2. So what's stopping you from doing that? The devs want you to do the work yourself, not just snooze while some code updates itself. You have perfect "celestial" navigation through F11 as well.
  3. #1 and #3 are testing/debug tools and everyone thinks that they are going away. #2 is nothing but an indication of reinforcement radius in port, and is useless for navigation, so I'm not sure what you're getting at. The problem with adding deep navigation is that it makes everything way too easy. We don't deserve to have the full suite of instruments when we also have ridiculous advantages over historical navigators. No leeway No currents No tide Constant wind Perfect steering Perfect 'chronometers' Better visibility Exaggerated topography for gaining an offing You're asking for an abacus when you already have a calculator. But as always, add all the instruments you want, so long as it's the player doing the work. And people will still whine. We have perfect GPS coordinates now, but people are too goddamn lazy to plot the position themselves.
  4. The devs have stated that crowdfunding is a potential option for pure content additions. Such as a bunch of U.S. frigates that are too obscure or similar to otherwise warrant inclusion.
  5. Here are some screens: http://imgur.com/a/C4erR Just to reiterate, this new model is worse than the one that came before it. It would be best just to delete the new one, and use the model that all the old Sea Trials ships had. IIRC Belle Poule and some others have the new model, not just Pickle.
  6. The entire purpose of crafting hours is to prevent this.
  7. No link?
  8. Removing the six pounders or a pair of guns would accomplish this immediately.
  9. Meant for shallow water? Did you link to the right ship? Boree of 1805 was a Temeraire-class that drew more water than Bellona.
  10. I tend to batter one broadside down to 0%, then switch to shooting sails or crew, depending on the range.
  11. An informed consumer lives! I've been waiting weeks for someone to post that.
  12. Steam should patch the game automatically. If the server lets you on, you have the right version.
  13. There are also Optimized Ballast modules. I don't imagine they're too difficult to craft.
  14. Wroooong You've obviously never gotten any compass wood. Hunting trader's is drastically more fun and unpredictable than grinding missions. And it's the only way new players learn to chase and board.
  15. Real captains didn't have to aim guns, buy ships, build ships, pay crew, install upgrades, choose sails to set all the time, give precise yard commands, steer, direct repair parties, plan invasions, choose ammo, etc. They could delegate all of this to their officers or admiralty bureaucrats and drink themselves into a stupor if they chose. So let's just automate everything and get rid of all this extraneous 'gameplay' crap. IRL there were good and bad navigators, and some ships had good equipment while others got lost, sometimes fatally. This precisely the outcome we see in-game. Realism of outcomes. And for you scrubs who can't grasp the concept: the game is realistic when it makes the game better. At other times, realism goes out the window.
  16. I think OP means raise in a literal sense: Furl.
  17. I have never heard Niagara described as a premium ship. There's hope, anyway. Plenty of people don't like her, so buying one should be easy.
  18. Braces would be nice, but that ship has probably sailed. Braces also raise some technical challenges that standing rigging does not. They need to move along with the yards, and alternate between slack and taught. That need for animation inevitably means a performance hit. I also wonder whether lines of smaller diameter can be rendered acceptably. If the braces come out looking like big old shrouds, they could ruin the illusion altogether. I'm more concerned about the inaccurate sheets that we have already: on jibs, staysails, courses and topsails. All but the latter are too complex to do right (since they are made fast to different positions, tack on tack), and should just be deleted to prevent clipping. On the other hand, I feel rather strongly that gaff sails should receive sheets. Only Pickle has one at the moment, and it is excellent work.
  19. Square riggers couldn't really make headway with their 'triangular' sails alone. Or if they could, it would only be a few knots, with the rest of that huge rig turning into useless windage. At low speed you would make so much leeway that sailing further of the wind with mostly square canvas would be faster. On the other hand, it would be nice if the likes of Pickle automatically furled their square sails, after a minute or so on the wind.
  20. There should be permanent modules for this.
  21. So they took away one of your durabilities and are offering to give 5 back? Sounds like pretty solid Medieval justice to me. Blood money.
  22. Character teleport cooldown could be much, much shorter, so long as the devs crack down on teleporting with goods in the hold.
  23. Cool, I enjoy being friendlier and less mature in-game.
  24. Snow is not dramatically larger than a cutter. You got unlucky; ramming is risky. You could also have been suffering from pump damage (the UI doesn't alert you until the damage gets serious) or lack of crew.
