  1. NO. Never delete characters. Everything is lost and the devs can't bring it back.
  2. I'm having trouble following the course of these exchanges. I don't see any cardinal sins right off the bat, so I would recommend using the Ignore function on the users in question, and continuing to screenshot any blatant aggression in nation chat.
  3. It comes in waves. A year ago there was a constant request for auto-targeted fire without player input.
  4. lolno Have you ever set foot near a boat larger than a canoe? Hell, forget large vessels. Anyone who has paddled a kayak knows that the capsizing physics are bunk. A kayak is the least stable boat ever invented by humanity. But when you place two of them alongside each other and one paddler leans on top of the neighboring boat, the newly-formed rafts of kayaks becomes impossible to capsize in all but the largest waves. With Naval Action physics, one of the kayaks instantly turns turtle just because its neighbor scraped against the side a little. IRL none of the force vectors in the in-game collisions would result in anything other than lateral movement Even if you got a force vector that caused one vessel to tilt, real sailing vessels have dramatically more initial and final stability. A real vessel has too much initial stability to be heeled by simple low-speed bumping against an adjacent vessel A real vessel has enough righting arm to pop back upright in many cases where in-game ships capsize Only in fantasy land can a sailing vessel actually climb up onto another ship's deck, with its bow leaving the water Real sailing vessels are extremely unlikely to turn turtle and float upside down like in-game ships do
  5. They're necessary as rent-a-cars. I could see them excluded from PvP after level III, though.
  6. In my experience, if you don't go seeking out solo PvP in hotspots (where you will be ganked regardless of loss and risk mechanics), the chance of losing a dura to another player is minimal. As for PvE, I don't even use repair kits anymore, much less get sunk by AI.
  7. Brigs, snows and cutters are not ships. They're brigs, snows and cutters. A Dutch galliot would be a great addition, however.
  8. Ramming? Try light grazing. The counter (underside of a ship's stern) can lightly bump over the rail of a smaller vessel and capsize it for no reason. It's a glitch, folks. Fix in the works.
  9. It's been on the devs' to-do list for years now. Nothing too much wrong with sinking in Napoleon, I guess (which didn't fix anything wrong with Empire's execrable naval battle graphics that I am aware of, but added steamships and a model-swapped bizarro-frigate).
  10. Göteborg is really just a ship. Can't think of anything that distinguishes her.
  11. Realistically neither penetrating nor non-penetrating hits would cause many splinters on the outside of the target. Just neat little holes, with all the flying debris on the exit side. But I still like Stix's idea for gameplay purposes.
  12. Hopefully shallow water will enter instances soon. It would also be nice to see certain shallow water ports exclude brigs.
  13. Guys, labor hours already scale with crafting level.
  14. A lot overpowered. But it makes up for the fact that the square sails don't blanket each other, and it ends up mostly a wash.
  15. I twitch uncontrollably every time someone holds up TW:Empire as a positive example. But there's a lot that could be done with sinking. I don't really want to see them reliably leaning towards the lowest-HP broadside, but there is always entropy and room for uneven sinking. Most of all, a sinking ship should be wallowing in the waves, long heavy sagging rolls that might even result in capsizing.
  16. In addition to HMS Rainbow there was an HMS Fairy.
  17. I don't want to lose all my warehouses because some clans wet the bed.
  18. Well, IIRC she never had a proper set of masts or anything. She was launched and immediately turned into a 'houseboat' like that. Too many beatles to look at on land.
  19. Teleport anywhere you want, so long as you don't bring your ship with you.
  20. The circular stern makes them less vulnerable to raking fire, and increases their gunnery arcs. Any other differences would probably be modest.
  21. It's not always easy, but it is doable. It is gameplay, and OW trips would be even more dull and lifeless without it. If you didn't listen to the devs when they explained their reasoning in the gaming press, then I'm certainly not going to waste my breath repeating it.
