Prize crews. If the attackers could leave with the captured vessel, everything is fine.

Since there are no rules stated anywhere, you should be grateful the mods didn't decide to make them up on the spot and ban you permanently. It's what I'd do.

Mediums are basically short guns.

Lo siento que no hablo espanol. Pero yo tengo mucho carbon y fir, lo que el nacio necesita. If you are building ships for the war effort, send mail to Olaudah Cimarron. I can sell coal, fir, and small amounts of gold in Havana. If you meet me in Key West, I will sell for extremely low prices. These goods have not been purchased by alts. Someone wishes to help Spain.

Thoughts on a directed RvR system

I have also suggested an automated system. Automatic shuffling of alliances to balance population. -
Your plan to abuse the battle end mechanic sickens me. Don't tag people when they're protected by half a fleet... Realistically those SoLs wouldn't have let you escape with the prize.

Traders need to be able to counter-tag.

Thoughts on a directed RvR system

There are definite pluses to the devs acting as the heads of government in Europe, handing down proclamations on who is at war with whom. Current experience proves that the players are far from adequate as diplomats, and tend to dogpile onto hostile factions rather than maintain a balance of power. -
PvE improvement suggestion
maturin replied to Jean LaPointe's topic in Current Feature Improvement Suggestions
That's like 3 XP per hour. Talk about a placebo. Maybe 15XP for visiting a new port would be better. -
What on earth is going on in PvP 2 that the US and Dutch can fight? How far have the green hordes expanded?
-
In my mind, peace is not imperative immediately. But unless relations are patched up sometime in the nearish future, it's possible that today's bad blood could complicate the formation of alliances far, far down the road. Spain will inevitable find itself in a real alliance with one major faction or other, once those game features come out.* *Given Spain's cursed fate in this game, it will probably end up getting attacked by allied U.S. and Britain, but whatevs.

The Spanish economy isn't as bad as all that. Thanks to buildings we have everything but fir and coal, and there are alternate sources for that. I suppose we should be flattered that the British view the stalemate at Mantua as so taxing that they need the help of another superpower there, and not someplace else. Why isn't the U.S. fighting a real war for deep water pirate ports? They won't be fanatically defended like the Spanish four. If I were a British strategist, I would fight a delaying action in Yucatan and Mexico with a skeleton crew, using timers to funnel the Spanish advance. Then focus on the trainwreck in Jamaica. If Britain can get that under control, it will have a much easier time making peace with a Spain that has newfound markets and supply lines to defend. There is an informal term in geopolitics called the offramp, which is what the defiant Spanish need.

Incorrect. AI traders can never leave with an enemy closer than 500-700 yds.

No one called the pirates friends. But the pirates are actually exemplary in their RvR behavior. Unlike the U.S. and Britain with their spite-driven spasmodic conquest, the pirates expand rationally. They only take ports they are able to defend. They don't gobble up entire countries just to vent their spleen and then suffer the consequences for being overextended. They manage this even with their diversity of clans and enormous playerbase. It's unfortunate that the pirates ended up being a nation, but at least no one can say they didn't end up as a darn good one.
-
If Spain isn't going to fight the British, who are they going to fight? Spain survives with its current ports, and routinely beats the British at Mantua. Making peace won't bring back the clans that went pirate. What do we really have to gain? A dubious treaty with the perfidious British, who will expect us to immediately turn on our stronger neighbors, the pirates and U.S.? Or is Spain supposed to become a PvE nation? If the British are tired of war, they should remove the timers on the Gulf Ports, Robras and Baracoa. That will get Spain's attention. It would be wise to give the Spaniards something to lose. Otherwise why should we care what the British do?
-
So you'll be giving back the Gulf of Mexico, then? We're rightly blaming you for the entire British nation's crime of going apeshit over what one guy did at Misteriosa.

Hotfix - 9.66 - Changing changes + some other things
maturin replied to admin's topic in Patch notes
True, I misspoke while rushing to get out the door. I mean that ships/boats steer 'by the stern.' The rudder pushes the stern to either side, as opposed most cars that steer by the front wheels. That means that if you turn sharply to port, your stern will swing out to starboard, possibly side-swiping whatever it is you were trying to avoid. It also means that the best way to avoid an object in a sailboat is often to turn towards it, swinging your stern out of the way and 'wrapping the hull around' the obstacle. With an outboard motor, obviously, this is even more pronounced. -
Yes, we look forward to negotiating Spain's southern border with the Danes.
-
But Britain expects Spain to meekly negotiate while holding on to the ports it deceptively stole in the first place, under the so-called 'alliance' with RAE. Then they can just complain that the Spanish said something rude in the talks, and keep the ports anyhow. Spain now has nothing to lose, and that means nothing to give. Same mistake that the U.S. made when it discovered the limits of gunboat diplomacy.

Game is bleeding players
maturin replied to Blood Eagle's topic in Patch Feedback and General discussions
SoLs were expected to engage any enemy, no matter how small. Even a tiny cutter with swivels is capable of doing millions of pounds worth of damage to the national economy. Only in battles against similar opponents were they expected to disregard the enemy's frigates, although frigates began acting more aggressively in fleet actions as time went on. -

Even the real Lynx was captured by an SoL. Yeah, and the 74s were as fast or faster than the 50-60 gun ships. -
Re-Thinking PBs when Land come in
maturin replied to Arbour's topic in Current Feature Improvement Suggestions
The main use of shallow water in port battles is that smaller vessels can lie safely under the guns of shore batteries, while SoLs must remain exposed to their fire. -
Without the ports from Robras to Batabano, no one in Spain even wants to hear about it. Where was this peace proposal when Britain was strong and not on the defensive?
