  1. Babble, you ask a rhetorical question while quoting my answer to that very question. Let's not make this any harder than it has to be. I've actually never been successfully ganked, except during the dark times of Speed Trim making Bellonas faster than Surprises closehauled. But from my perspective solo PvP seems really inaccessible, because I have to spend all my time running from attempted ganks, rather than fighting. And once I've escaped a gank, my pursuers are usually so furious that they go and set a vast net of ships across the entire ocean, forcing me to log off in the Battle Over screen. So that's the end of my PvP for the night. But then you guys whine about having to wait outside the instance for 5 minutes. I should really find a group so I can hide behind their skirts.
  2. Warships captured by players should be added to empty slots in port battles somehow.
  3. So why aren't you sailing in a group? The attack circle is huge; it's not hard to fit a group inside it. If the lone ships you find don't want to fight, and you can't catch them as a body, then so be it. If being split up is so horrendously terrible, then go look elsewhere. I guarantee you, the victim of the gank is just as disappointed as you are that there is no decent fight to be had. All the people in this thread claim that ganking is not a problem since competent players will escape anyhow. Well, if they were going to escape anyhow, maybe the BR ratio changes will convince them to turn and fight.
  4. These polls are not remotely useful at this point, except for cluttering the forum with no-content threads that are always bumped to the first page. There's nothing wrong with your thread in particular, but the point stands.
  5. But the only effective way to level is to run those execrable missions ad nauseum. If you enjoy the missions, you should quit the game and perform some other repetitive, useful task like laying bricks or weeding a garden. Pretty sure that admin knows naval guns were always loaded ahead of time. It's just an artificial constraint to prevent the battle from beginning too soon.
  6. Because a world full of nothing but Trincomalee and Renommee is goddamn boring. Because in real life frigates were supposed to operate alone in any waters, even if they weren't the fastest ship in the fleet, and the enemy navy didn't spend all its resources sailing around in stupid furballs of vessels. Because the old way results in no good fights and hours of running. If this was a combat flight simulator it would be silly to promote solo play. But this is what frigates and other light warships were built to do.
  7. Why couldn't this go in the thread about the patch?
  8. ...and if you aren't incompetent at it, all 6 guys can jump into the fight. You're only going to run into 1.5 BR limitation if you are relying on one ship to be a tackler, and the rest are incapable of catching anything. So your choice is either split up the group or let some of the quicker prey escape.
  9. Yes, 'his' situation is improved. It prevents you from exploiting the OW mechanics to tackle him using fantastical formations and then teleporting into the instance. Instead you must attack as a formation or risk *gasp* giving the enemy a winnable fight. That's the whole crux of the matter. Not that ganking becomes impossible or even much harder for those that are good at it. It just means that a sloppy gank might result in some halfway-decent gameplay.
  10. When the victim's friends come out and give them a 1.5:1 BR fight.
  11. Just think of it this way... We're concerned about the PvP skills of the gankers and want to make sure they learn how to fight.
  12. When the British 'ganked' Constitution they were actually sailing in company. They opened the battle with all of them 'in the circle.' Not a disorderly gaggle spreading out a net reliant on instantaneous communications, drone cameras and huge spotting distances. IRL you can't climb to the masthead and watch Mariel from Havana. Draw distance in the game is at least twice what it is in reality, and it isn't affected by darkness. You can still gank, you just have to be disciplined about it. No more exploiting one tackler and then warping an entire fleet into one spot thirty seconds later. How historical is that?
  13. Boo-hoo, gankers don't get their gank. What's stopping the others from going and getting their own fight? Are they too scared to sail without their friends? If the only way they could get a fight was with a speedfit failboat, do they really deserve that "fight" in the first place?
  14. It's pretty sketchy in 1v1. But in a group fight where ships spend most of the time engaged on one broadside only, it is a disadvantage that is easily managed.
  15. I don't think we are going to get any flammable forts.
  16. https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3941/15742524841_d4fecaf3a2_b.jpg Picture is a year old or more.
  17. I think that you, like myself, have gotten accustomed to making money from an unexpected side effect of the crafting system. I don't think the devs ever set out to make BP's a commodity, and indeed the easy exchange in piles of excess BP's defeats the purpose of having such a BP system in the first place. The devs have already referred to BP's as a flawed system that needs updating, so I wouldn't recommend getting worked up trying to defend your preferred economic niche. You've made your money, and changes are probably coming. Played the game recently? Pirates have the largest navy and build the biggest warships. It's too bad that I can't go roleplay a real pirate now, but players like that are 0.1% of the total pirate population. The game lets the pirates act like nationals; the pirates decided to act like nationals; now they are just like nationals.
  18. Only if you're not any good at sailhandling.
  19. /signed It would be much better if the 'Admiralty' only confiscated important major warships like SoLs.
  20. Uh, I'm pretty sure that Prussia was not the point of this idea. Wilson suggested a faction for German players. And he showed that a 'German' state operated large warships. So let the faction be called Brandenburg instead... who cares? The real issue is that all the ships are very old, and would fit better into a Baltic theater set around 1650-1730 for the Anglo-Dutch Wars and the Great Northern War.
  21. No one towed ships. If they still had masts they would be sailed home by small prize crews.
  22. People won't be able to sell blueprints that much anymore. Is that a problem? Far more effective than capping player ships would be buying them from AI, and then dismantling them. This is still many times more effective than dismantling prizes.
  23. Were you unaware that crafting yellow ships was the only remotely viable way of securing BPs? Dismantling ships for BPs has been completely obsolete for a month now. Anyone trying to get BPs that way has been digging trenches with a teaspoon instead of a shovel. Why are you trying to get BPs if you don't want to craft? The devs can't foresee strange decisions like that.
  24. So what happens if your original ship sank while you were sailing the prize? The admiralty sends a helicopter out to your position, makes you walk the plank, and carries away its property? Simple. Currently a fleet of AI SoLs is just a buffet for the RvR people. They would capture them all and use them in port battles. Now these fleets can exist as targets for PvE players.
  25. This makes me sad. There are many, many situations where capturing an NPC ship makes for good, emergent gameplay. So what if we can capture NPC warships, but they are confiscated by the prize court immediately upon entering port? You still won't see captured 3rd Rates in PB's, unless someone is desperate enough to use one that is damaged and undercrewed, Also, let the record show that 'pirates' have officially been removed from the game.
