  1. How expensive do 1st Rates have to be before we see historical proportions of SoLs? 400% as expensive? 500%? Does anyone care to guess, and can they possibly have an informed reason for making that guess? The price would have to rise with time and inflation. And you know that eventually a clan would put together 25 of them for a critical port battle (e.g., British vs. Rats at Jeremie). Do we really want to make the cost of building 1st Rates soar far above historical levels in a never-ending quest for historical distribution of SoL sizes?
  2. Funny that Britain still regards taking Spanish ports as help. I'm glad the rest of the server has decided to help Britain in the same way.
  3. When is this myth going to be finally strangled and thrown in a river? Santissima Trinidad was built in Havana, along with many other SoLs.
  4. Наоборот, карронады--более современны.
  5. Players should lose a rank every time they blow up without ever engaging Survival. Murder 800 of your own men and the admiralty isn't going to rush to send you another crew.
  6. Maybe we will fight the French after they take Yucatan from you, and skirmish with the Jamaican Danes.
  7. Age of Sail, not Age of Rail.
  8. There is, however, something very much wrong with the historicity of your suggestion.
  9. I wouldn't describe that as No True Scotsman. 'This Scotsman is a Japanese' may be nearer the mark.
  10. I'm still traumatized from watching pre-EA, pre-wipe yellow boarding mods in action (4 boarding-fit SoLs beat 8 SoLs). I hope those days aren't back.
  11. Kewl. More than once I've alt-tabbed the game in a frenzied hunt for Jodgi's speed graphs. This will go much faster. Ah, but most ships will be caught on their fastest point of sail. Their point of relative advantage may be different (90 for Cerb, 60 for Surprise).
  12. Since you talk about people lying, do you admit that you are a liar? No one ever needs to sail even a tiny fraction of 30 minutes for a mission, except when the location glitches out on the far side of a landmass.
  13. Great Britain: Cutter, Pickle, Snow, Cerberus, Trincomalee, Bellona, Victory Two of these ships were drawn from French lines. That should should show why this would be a silly idea even if it wouldn't bankrupt GameLabs by requiring seven times as much content.
  14. Pick literally any spot on the north coast of Cuba-Hispaniola-Puerto Rico. It should be a conga-line of traders.
  15. If closed battles become visible, the symbol should be something subtle like a cloud of gunpowder smoke or some flotsam on the water. Anything to communicate that fact that outside of the time-accelerated OW travel map, the battle is not closed but over. You arrived hours after its conclusion.
  16. I don't want to bring acrimony into this topic, but this is news to me. Mariel was kept on a 4-6 timer until the end. If this is a gift, it is easily misinterpreted as an insult.
  17. This should be obvious: If you needed to permanently (until visiting port) give away 30-40 crew with every capture, the game would finally have a meaningful and realistic limit on the number of AI ships you can viably hijack at once.
  18. Tribunal could just be a pre-mod only forum.
  19. Just because of chasers? I've never been caught in a Surprise thanks to counter-tagging, and have even run away from mixed frigate groups in a Cerberus (one of the fastest frigates at 90).
  20. Sliders might open a can of worms (what do we use to control them? It can't be the mouse), but a minimum threshold for each category would be nice. Earlier admin told us that Fire Deck Guns would only be usable in Boarding if we actually left men in gunnery. Currently this is pretty much impossible, since Boarding focus takes all your men off the guns. The main thing, though, is removing the silly choice between 90 men on the sails or zero.
  21. Yeah, I sometimes forget to hit T again like I need to. And if we're tweaking the T button, there's one nice little cosmetic thing that could be done. Pressing T should leave the lowest (rearmost) jib set.
  22. It counts as damage, so you earn XP. No bonus that I know of,
  23. Santissima should absolutely be slower than Victory. Victory was a good sailer. Post-refit Santi was a brick. If big sails made you go fast, why wouldn't they just put bigger sails on Victory?
  24. Hang on a minute. Contract costs are minuscule. The game already has massive inflation and nothing can stop it because all the money sinks are optional. Contract taxes do prevent every player from making dozens of them in each port, however.
