  1. Almost never. There was no profit in it. But all the players and most of the NPCs in this game are in the navy. A sailhandling bonus for pirates wouldn't be too silly. Pirates were almost always drawn from the ranks of able seamen, and they recruited from their prizes, not the press gang. While of course no crew would be able to compete with a crack frigate, in general warships would be weighted down with more landsmen, and struggle with undermanning.
  2. Can we please use one of the 40 open topics for this?
  3. What more do you want to know? The meaning of 'merge' should be clear enough. You keep your stuff. No one knows (including devs) exactly how long those conquest patches will take. But by the time they are done we will probably be getting around port wipe time. So seems like a merge will be barely noticed by anyone.
  4. The problem is when they hide in a battle, and leap out of nothingness to ambush you once their Alt scouts you out with the Home camera.
  5. After a few minutes, we should have the choice of going back to the OW or logging off. And when we log back in, we appear in the OW, not the end-battle screen.
  6. It's April already in Russia.
  7. I've never seen water pumped out so fast in this game. Perhaps there is an error in the new crew system in relation to repairs? We can certainly rule out a hack, unless this guy is a genius hacker who is also dumb enough to livestream his crimes.
  8. Kapitan still exists as a British midshipman (no clan), last I checked. He could not be reached for comment (lol).
  9. Someone should host a 3rd Party forum to replace National News. At least then we won't have to look at it.
  10. Games heighten and exaggerate reality. There are two dozen Nelsons instead of one, and Trafalgar happens every other Thursday. A MMO needs a warship for every player, so the navies will be bigger. But when you look at a snapshot of one battle, you see a few dozen SoLs, and everything seems historical. Nobody knows or cares about the exact number of First Rates across the huge gameworld. It's blindingly simple: Navies get more first rates than in reality. Pirates get more pirate vessels* than in reality. This is what a successful representation of history in a fun, playable game would look like. But giving the pirates more first rates than the navy is like having Trafalgar every Thursday and replacing the Allied fleet with nazis riding UFOs. It's complete absurdity. I will never understand the attraction of playing for a 'pirate' faction that has zero--and I do mean ZERO--attributes of actual pirates. *Schooners, sloops, brigantines, brigs and captured merchant ships

    Patch 9.68

Most players prefer to use captured traders temporarily. This and the ability of the cutter/lynx to escape will guarantee some diversity.
  12. I love how Vicious never posts screenshots. Surely it would be easier to show proof than write out vague descriptions in broken English?

    Patch 9.68

I hope the BP path is upgraded so that 3rd Rate comes from Ingermanland, not Connie.
  14. Is that rebuild still happening? Where they increase the freeboard by a ton?
  15. Why would you propose this as a Dutch player? You want to be zerged by the sprawling empires that now will never become overextended?
  16. With resource production buildings, I suspect that necessary travel times have plummeted.
  17. You really think there would be so many pirates if they had permadeath, etc?
  18. I'd like to see subtly different colors for sailcloth. Really just varying levels of wear and tear, perhaps with some sails being tar-stained in the appropriate areas. And tanned sails for small vessels would look nice,
  19. 15-minute outpost-outpost teleports. 8-hour capital teleports (or just make capital teleport timer depend on playtime, not realtime)
  20. I don't think anyone is expecting heightmaps. A two-dimensional line segment can serve as a perfectly adequate sandbar. A pyramid is an underwater rock. Does this constitute detailed collisions? What's the performance hit for the five martello towers in PBs?
  21. There are all sorts of terrible things I wish the devs would do to players, so far as navigational hazards are concerned. But even I think that teleports (without ship only) should be liberalized.
  22. But will there be depth? I assume that ships can approach within a set distance of the shore and then bounce off?
  23. Close global chat and choose the right nation = no toxicity. Even global is usually fine.
  24. I'd like to see the numbers. Certain changes might be warranted (18-pdr and 12-pdr crew sizes were often the same). I was just about to mount 12-pdrs on an Essex because I'm under-ranked.
  25. Wait, so the Spanish took Contoy, but the French didn't take Mugeres? Shouldn't it be obvious that the Spanish intended all along to loan ports to the French as they move up the coast into empty territory to build themselves a base? The Spanish always intended to take Contoy back, but the British assault forced their hands. Think about what you are saying here... The Spanish should have seen the enemy coming, and refrain from locking the gate? This is a non-issue. Now, if the French and Spanish repeatedly swapped Mugeres and Contoy so that neither could ever be attacked, I would be in agreement with JCDC.
