  1. The original idea was to hide the mods entirely and let people discover what their ships were good at.
  2. It increases the quality for the seventeen people that PvP him simultaneously.
  3. I don't know what's going on with speeds. Historically both Trinc and Belle Poule could make around 13 kts, and Essex would likely be in that neighborhood as well. Cerberus might have matched that, while Surprise was never recorded doing better than 11. I assume that a Fir Trinc with copper plating and speed trim will reach 13 kts? Or higher?
  4. Or they could make disengaging take only 2 rounds.
  5. Slightly off-topic: Anyone know how many speed upgrades you need to get a Trinc to 13 kts at best point of sail?
  6. So use the basic module... People shouldn't be so brainwashed by what the game artificially defines as 'exceptional.'
  7. So the intent here is to coral players seeking PvE into areas where PvP players can hunt them and jump into their missions?
  8. Everything but the battle compass is definitely placeholder.

You can escape AI no matter what the distance or position. They don't know how to chase, even though they use chase guns now.
  10. The problem was that they got their myth wrong in the first place. First of all, they arbitrarily decided that the splinters had to be "lethal," which is a complete fiction, and then they arbitrarily labeled it a "pirate" myth instead of a general fact of naval warfare. When of course it didn't matter whether splinters were lethal so long as they caused casualties, and pirates hardly used their guns at all, much less roundshot against hulls.
  11. Err... whatever you say, captain.

Seriously. Even as an undercrewed SoL I have enough time to reload everything by the time the ships are a mile apart.

Shot with enough energy to overpenetrate is less efficient at producing splinters, if we're talking about reality here.

Attributed to Captain Bligh, which is to say a myth. How pertinent to the current situation.

I'm not sure why you think you should be immune to 9-pdr guns. This is a frigate caliber gun, used against a frigate. It's going to be a really bad game if vessels of one tier are incapable of resisting vessels one or two tiers higher. I just easily took down 2 AI Renommee's in an Essex. It is entirely dependent on your technique.

You don't think you will learn more about the AI and get better at the game?
  17. Uh, yeah their is. Neutralize your yards and press T on a beam reach. I guarantee that you will drift forward several hundred meters. Increasing momentum will just make realistic maneuvers impossible and unrealistic maneuvers more viable.

I give it two weeks before the PvE players get better at the game and the complaints die down. The AI is only overpowered in your head. Anyone capable of average-level marksmanship should be able to win an even fight. Sail close; sail slow; focus one broadside; present your bow when possible; aim carefully.
  19. I'd rather see you get roundly defeated by people who have the ability to change their plans on the fly and effectively react to changes.
  20. Apparently that would require tons of server resources and extra AI work to compute new paths for 1000+ AI constantly.
  21. I'm sure they tested, and found that beating a basic cutter is really easy for a competent player.
  22. It would probably be good for balance. But it also totally misses the point of naval warfare. More like Armored Trains fighting each other on rails.
  23. No one has to re-buy anything. There has never been the slightest hint of a boxed version. It's an indie game.
  24. I'll just leave this here... Supposedly such a feature would be too confusing for players, though. Edit: That second 15 degrees column should read 150 degrees. Old Google Docs.
