  1. Please just stop. I refuse to answer this question in plain English a single time more. I doubt the devs want to either, having already made a special thread about it. You can disagree with the desirability of the stated purpose, or cast doubt on whether it is achievable. That's totally fine. I'm not sure I'm overjoyed by the changes either. But you cannot continue refusing to acknowledge the clearly-stated purpose. Now you're just spamming. Stop. Frigates can run.
  2. Why should pirates be expected to sail in company? You're supposed to be loaners anyways.
  3. The brig can drop right on top of the fleeing vessel if they position themselves right. You can chase from leeward on the OW and attack from windward in the instance.
  4. No one here has played the game with positional reinforcements and no BR restrictions. Therefore you are all talking out of ignorance. If there are positional reinforcements with no BR restrictions, then running away from anything is utterly impossible. Santi and Brig can catch a Lynx.
  5. Initially the idea was that repair kits would be a craftable item.
  6. Haven't seen any contraband-carrying traders between Havana and Bahia Honde, which is usually easy pickings, even given the high player traffic there. Anecdotally, the majority of NPCs seem to be large fleets with SoLs.
  7. It's totally artificial and silly, though. Warships sailed around with their guns loaded, for obvious reasons.
  8. Yeah, this is extremely concerning. It seems like adding land into the battles somehow made positional reinforcements necessary or something. I hope that's not the case.
  9. I'm pretty sure you're misunderstanding him. Prater was talking about reinforcing the stronger side. You can always reinforce the 100 BR side against the 1000 BR side while the timer is open. How does limiting reinforcements to the inferior side make any sense?

What to do in the game now? The obvious answer here is to improve your skills until you realize that this statement is false.

    Hotfix 9.71

Guys, if you think you are seeing strange damage outputs in battle, why aren't you taking screenshots? Devs can't take unsupported anecdotes as serious evidence of a problem. Last night I took my Niagara out against a Merc. We both mounted 6-pdrs and I sank it, but without much armor remaining. Seems pretty normal to me.
  12. L2P? Nothing has changed. You hit the trader with a few broadsides of chain, then engage the escorts in a running fight while keeping within a few shiplengths of the trader. A real pain in the ass against comparable ships, but that's what escorts are for.
  13. It's the same as the normal brig. Which is to say, Model Shipways' Fair American model.
  14. Or tackling a comparable force! This use of a tackler is still possible. The fact that the complainers ignore this fact just goes to show that they really just want to gank.
  15. So why do you insist on teleporting a whole fleet into the instance with your tagger? I'm not sure how else to describe the mechanic of the attacking fleet travelling at 20 km/minute while the victim is completely immobile in the instance.
  16. Well, you should care what range it's at. Any cannon can penetrate any warship near muzzle velocity. Armor should only be relevant at range and shallow impact angles.
  17. So you are willing to go on record and say that a 10v1 battle is preferable to a 1v1 or 2v1? I suppose that verifies admin's statement, that the upset people are just defending ganks. Gankers want to gank. The more the merrier.
  18. The Econ forum is for discussing the economy in order to aid development. Advertisements and announcements are not forbidden by the specific rules you mention; they are merely off-topic.
  19. Only if your tackler is afraid of getting the stuffing beaten out of his fir carronade Renommee. Mathematically it's the same number of potential fights. There are just fewer people in them. Which is the whole point.
  20. At this point I have to wonder if people are deliberately ignoring the very clearly stated rationale for these changes... Yes, people can get away. But no one gets to fight. This change isn't supposed to save people's lives, it's supposed to force a decent fight. Unless this is unclear, please stop the endless stream of rhetorical questions.
  21. Everything penetrates everything else at close range.
  22. 350 is the maximum, but you don't need that many unless you want to load both broadsides simultaneously at the same speed while setting sails.
