  1. Not from my experiences of 3.8k+ hours playing the game. If you see someone tagging a friendly, you can sail to the center of the crossed swords, aka center of the battle. In 3 minutes, they won't have sailed very far, probably not even out of your cannon range. If you were in range / sight - Sure, go ahead and join the battle, as you were close. Open battles for 90 minutes on the other hand - I think it's not needed to explain why that's nonsense
  2. You've got a 3 minutes join timer, gives anything in range, and even Ships that were in port! a chance to join the battle. This game is supposed to be realistic? If no friendlies were where the battle was, why would you expect any help?
  3. You both would get the invis / boost I see the problem you're mentionning; maybe tagging circle range needs to be lowered even further so you cannot effectively def-tag someone while being slower to get away anymore. Somewhere I read the accuracy difference between bow / stern chasers had a historical value, but not too sure on that. (remember, this game is supposed to be realistic, according to steam store page) My main point being: if you escaped, you escaped, no need to give anyone a second chance.
  4. 45 sec invis won't but 1.5 * OW speed will, which simulates the spawn range of the picture above. I'm in general just not a fan of that whole camping on battle location, using fallout ships, thingy. If you escaped, you escaped, no need to give rocketpowered ships a second chance. Exit to port was widely used to teleport to ports without having to sail there, no intention of fighting what was inside the battle, only wanted to get a tp ticket.
  5. Well then he was just faster and therefore deserves to get away? Now we've got the tagging circles relatively close; if someone tags you with the purpose to get away from you, and he succeeds, he's faster and deserves to get away?
  6. IRL why would a captain sail/escape to a hostile port? After an engagement it would most likely sail back to a friendly port to re-fill supplies etc., without having to deal with fallout constitutions. We had that feature before but it got removed, most likely to please the average player, being salty about him loosing a ship to someone, so he gets a chance to take revenge on him. *Realistic and Hardcore*.. yea right. It's a shame, but I guess devs do what they have to to keep the money flowing sidenote: What about an invis timer of 45 sec, and an increased OW speed of 150% during the invis time? (aka 1.5 times the speed you would normally sail at) I dare you to come at me and say "oooh but that's not realistic!!" - Come on - OW speed is already messed up, Fallout Constitutions being able to camp on battle positions - Doesn't matter anymore at this point. If you give one side a massive speed boost, might aswell give the guys in battle something similar, and a fair chance of evading the teleport ships. Would basically be the suggestion where you spawn in a certain range of where the initial battle was. Gives the players a fair chance of getting away but at the same time avoids any exploits we had with 'exit to nearest port'. Picture + idea by @Cecil Selous Great proposal IMO, but from my understanding not going to be implemented due to the possibility of spawning in land, and that taking too much effort to make it work properly. Of course would have to see if that needs to be tweaked for outlaw battles, for obvious reasons. @admin
  7. My point exactly. Now imagine your gang teleporting in out of nowhere, surrounding the other guys. Sounds like bs, doesnt it? regarding your rvr obsession... I can only disagree. And I'm sure plenty of other privateers / small group players will do so too. Before this patch, the escape-to-port mechanic was implemented because admin himself said a captain shouldnt have to escape twice, you should not have to give anyone a second chance to get you. My speculation for why they got rid off it is to please the guys wanting instant success (in a realistic / hardcore game!), and take revenge on a guy which just sank them, so the game can sort of keep the numbers up. It's a shame, but they'll do what they have to to keep the money flowing, I guess.
  8. Yeah I do think camping on a battle position is lame, because that's not quite my idea of a realistic (and newly hardcore) game, as it's advertised on Steam. If the descrpition was advertised as Arcade (instant success etc.) sure, but it's not. If you get attacked without any help in range/sight, you're doomed. And as, in a realistic version, reinforcements wouldnt be able to come and help, the attackers should at least get a chance of escaping. Basically you're suggesting everyone prefering 1v1 - 5v5 frigate engagements to not enjoy the game as they do anymore and join the fallout constitution squads. nah thanks. Arena luckily will not have to deal with anything similar. By the way - From my understanding, a fleet of 15 ships is already huge for Global server measurements.
  9. I dont want open world speed to be reduced; but there needs to be something which gives players a fair chance of leaving safe and sound after ESCAPING / finishing a battle. Having to escape twice, being surrounded by in-teleporting ships, meh, not quite my idea of hardcore / realistic. Waiting for Arena at this point as it seems like we're talking with a wall.
  10. wowowowo now calm down sir. Prettymuch everyone in OCEAN has at least 2.5k hours on naval action, most even 3 - 3.5k+. It's NOT strictly an RvR game. It's a sandbox. You are not forced to do those dull 25v25 hull smashing competitiions in port battles if you dont want to, but are given the option to privateer if you prefer doing so. Right now, if your clan has the zerg capacity to deal with revenge fleets, good on you. But IMO thats just lame. If the ships were protected / protecting themselves properly, that would be smart. But not just camping on an exact battle location after getting an emergency phonecall, in teh age of sail! *realistic*, *hardcore*. ye right In my books, hardcore / realistic means you need to be careful on where you go and in what manner, you don't get a second chance to sink someone if he escaped, but also don't have to deal with such an unrealistic crap as revenge fleets.
  11. Just waiting for the day we actually see a full port battle, 25v25 and the attackers get smashed by a 'revenge fleet' after fighting a 105 minutes port battle. Sounds like fun. But if that happens I'm sure RvR will get a special treatment Name one battle where reinforcement sailed across an ocean to help in an engagement because pigeons told them to? 99% of the engagements I know of ended like this: On December 29th the USS Constitution under the command of Captain Bainbridge was off the coast of San Salvadore. Bainbridge spotted a British ship closer to shore. The ship was the 38 gun HMS Java commanded by Captain Henry Labert. The Java was quicker then the Constitution while the 44 gun Constitution out gunned the Java. The Java was towing an American Merchant ship that it had captured. When it spotted the Constitution it sent its captured ship into San Salvador Harbor and raced to face the Constitution. At 2PM the two ships were within cannon range. The two sides faced each other with broadsides While the Java initially out maneuvered the Constitution, the latters larger number of guns and the greater accuracy of its gunnery took a steady toll on the Java. By 3PM Captain Lambert had concluded that his only hope was to board the Constitution. That attempt failed when an accurate broadside struck his ship by the constitution that brought down his Top Mast and foremast. By 4:20 the Java’s main mask fell. An hour later when the Constitution was nearing for another run on the stricken ship the Java struck her colors and surrendered. http://www.historycentral.com/1812/Java.html
  12. You called revenge fleets realistic. realistic - resembling or simulating real life http://www.dictionary.com/browse/realistic "Hey Nelson come teleport here, I've got two French Frigates on my butt".
  13. I guess you could do that. But then, if you would get to butcher the last sheep, keep in mind you'll have to deal with his mates waiting outside. No way you're going to keep that juicy SoL. As long as those silly revenge fleets stay, calling NA realistic / hardcore is just ridiculous.
  14. cs:go has had a new update. But I'm wondering how Admin found out I was playing it.
  15. What about a 150% speed boost into all directions after leaving the battle while the invis timer is up? Would basically be the suggestion where you would spawn in a certain range of where the battle position was.
  16. sigh.. KoC, I'll have to explain to you why we cannot have this. What you're suggesting is NOT realistic. The OW we've got has a massive speed boost, also a comprimized map, compared to in-battle. So if you let a battle open 24/7, pretty much anyone can join it. I'm sure you wouldnt be pleased by rats joining your battles right outside your capital. 1h 22min from MT to Charleston at an average OW speed of 19 knots. Conclusion: Letting battles stay open for the whole 90 min is, due to the OW speed boost, the complete opposite of realistic. When a 2 min join timer would let anything in range / sight join, as it would have been IRL. You wouldnt have randomly ships teleporting in a few hours later, also due to the fact captains had no means of communication.
  17. My definition of realistic (and maybe hardcore) is, you get what you see, aka 2ish min join timer, so no fleet can magically appear leaving a port and join it. e.g. "ganking" = "hardcore", you need to be careful where to sail, rather than the arcadized version of getting reinforcements 24/7
  18. Why not 2 min instead? So you cant hop out of a port, prepare a ship to set sail and join an ongoing battle. Seems much more arcadey than "hardcore", let alone "realistic".
  19. would need re-install NA to check which are now rng Honestly, if NA is supposed to be hardcore AND realistic, that camp on battle pos. with a revenge fleet nonsense has to stop. might change the game description to arcade instead.
  20. In the fallout universe maybe?
  21. So the title "Lord" is exclusive and trademarked? Doubt they were refering to LV with the title "such is a lord"
  22. I was talking about accidentally hitting R once too often and therefore, in the heat of a battle, you can mess up your broadside. Happens rarely but sucks when it does.
  23. Advantage of being in one of the largest clans I guess, capacity of pepole to warp by to save your butt is huge. But try to see it from a small group of players PoV, which just prefers teh small frigate engagements rather than those huge 20v20+s. Basically right now you can only survive if you've got enough mates to beam to your battle position on the OW. Steel Masts + Mass > Quality -> Uninstalled ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
  24. Looks like the 'defense fleets' arent that much fun after all?
  25. nope, you can use the surgeon at any point while in boarding, it just wont show up in the lower bar but still works
