PvP rewards for boarding
Sir Texas Sir replied to asuspiciousbear's topic in Current Feature Improvement Suggestions
Guess what life is full of choices, you can't have it both ways. Welcome to the real world......you can't have your cake and eat it too all the time. As many have said some times keeping the ship is worth 100 times more than the few PvP marks you will get. Believe me if you captured one of my ships your going to want to keep it over the marks any day with what I set them up like. Now if I capture some one junk ship or we are doing agro the ships get scuttle for the points and PvP to be shared unless it's a very very very very good ship. Pluss when you scuttle them you get one of the mods droppeed randomly so that is a bonus to your PvP marks. But I'm done with this topic, he just wants all the prizes no matter way, even though that is not how the system works. Next he's going to ask for PvP marks for when he looses and sinks. -

The thing is it's not the guys with 4000 hours that they are killing. I know your nation doesn't have a bunch of newbs/new players or hell even casuals, but mine does so I see it a lot more. It's manually the guys with less than 400 hours that are constantly getting ganked and killed out side the capital and in the zones. Yah your still going to have that old cranky trader vet that AFK sails with 4 trade ships and get caught, but he isn't the one that is getting farmed, he also can cut his lost and just make new ships and a new run as those guys tend to have millions and millions. Show me one game that allows you to camp a capital and kill players? Every game I been on that has PvP/PvE and yes this game has both, you where restricted to PvP only in designated zones. Even EvE you have to move away from the starting areas before you can even think of attacking some one else or there security zones would destroy you. You need to let the new players and casuals grow and do there thing to have a healthy server player base number. Eventually those players might get the wild hair up and come out and play. Any one notice ASP numbers have dropped? They use to come out and fight ya'll over and over, but even they are getting tired of sinking and dieing over and over to the same vet groups coming up and farming out side of CT. It gets old when you don't win a few fights and what fun is that. We are hoping it's more the finals exams and end of school thing why there numbers dropped but I think it's more having to do with the constant farming just doesn't make the game fun for them. @Kjartan you would be some one that could answer some of this. Since your guys number dropped a lot recently and your clan has a lot of new players how do you feel about the reinforcement zones, vets coming camping the coast line and how it effects your clan players? -

Exactly solo hunting, but a lot of these so call guys that brag about all there PvP aren't solo hunting and that is why many of them don't get on the Board or they have very low points. You take a 50 point ship and split if 50 ways that is only 10 points. So you really don't get up there on the leader board like a solo hunter would. Most the problem in these zones aren't the solo hunters. I have no issue with those guys. It's the guys that come in groups of 3-10 and than jump every solo player they see and call that PvP. Than they cry they can't find any PvP all the while avoiding other PvP groups doing the same thing. -

Historically you didn't sit in the bay of London killing folks either. One of my biggest issues with the zones and this is mainly going off the CT one cause I haven't went to KPR or French zones to check how they are, but CT has a big empty zone right at the mouth of the bay that is not protected for a good bit that folks farm at. You have to pass through this zone to get out of the Capital waters and back into reinforcement zones. What is even the point of having the zones if the capitals aren't protected properly to let newbs and casuals do there thing? KFC is prime proof you can kill a bunch of noobs and never make it on the Leader board, when all your doing is killing Trade ships which give you very little points compared to bigger ships. Just look at the other weekend when we had those Port Battles with Brits. I think you or Bandish was the only one that made it on the leader board, can't remember any of the french and how many use small ships got sunk that night. While if you listen to KFC it was like 40 ships. By our count more like 10-20 ships lost all 6th rates and only you two made it on the leader board and that is prob from hunting in other places. So yah leader board doesn't always tell things, but also it tells a lot. Just about every time I see some one brag about kiling a large number ships there stats on the board was very small so it tells you all they where doing was farming newbs, trade ships and small ships or doing big group ganks so you get very little points. I want to point out another game that many of us played before and wonder why our gaming model is pretty much backwards? In POTBS you couldn't attack another player unless your in the red zone (any one remember my alt Dead in the Red? Yah joke name off POTBS). You created the red zones by doing agro on a port. The bigger circle only pirates and Privateers could attack you in. They had all the rest of the ocean as a safe zone and the game ran great, had tons of PvP, cause we knew where it was. We didn't have to camp capitals or new player zones. You wanted PvP you flipped a port or put agro on it, most the time we never even flipped it, just keep a constant red zone in that center. I think the biggest problem with this game is we don't give the PvPer's that incentive to make there own zones and stay in them. Instead they go and haress every one but each other. I seen several nations of PvPers sitting right next to each other not attacking waiting on traders and noobs to come out of a port. Than they wonder why there isn't any PVP? If you want PvP than go flip another nations port. I bet you if a certain nation "A" flipped a port of "B" PvPers there would be a fight out side that port and they would get all the PvP they want. Ok back to our game NA. As many folks have stated the reinforcement/safe zones are a nice touch to the game to give false security to new players and the casuals. The problem is that is all they do, they don't actually help and all you do is give the open inventation for the gankers and want to be PvPers to go feed off them. I don't want a completely safe game. I do my trade runs in OW out of the safe zones when I do them. I do most my econ except my ship building out of open water not safe ports. That is me though I been playing this game a long time and I don't need that security. I get on during off hours and run my runs when there is hardly any one on, I know the main hunting grounds and times when players are on. I make my runs when they aren't on, but the causal/new players don't have that option. Instead they see the same guys over and over in front of there capitals picking off ships. Yes we can all say, "GO PLAY SOME OTHER PORT." But many of these guys they pick off never leave the capital coast line either. The game needs those players and numbers to remain active. Cause some of them do finaly leave and get into PvP/RvR and grow into vet players or more than casuals. My point is reienforcement zones should not be the prime hunting grounds if some one is looking for a fight. It should be in areas like POTBS that are hotzones. Though since this game is a sand box it's allowed, but we shouldn't make these zones easy for folks to pick off easy targets of those that aren't aware of all the game mechanics and how to play to the best of the game allows them to. -
Well it's understandable thinking a cutter can just rage board a frigate, but the issue folks are having isn't when it's a large crew diffrence, it's when your almost the same crew are very close to them or more. That is why many folks are asking to drop the 30% down cause it means you have to have equal or more (30% more) to even try to board some one, this stops the small ship rage boarding, but it also stops the big ship from boarding mos small ships. Just shooting at each other hull doesn't take much skill either, but all those things you mention are included into boarding too. You don't just instantly push some one into irons unless they have no clue what they are doing. It's actually very hard to do with some ships if they are larger than you and depending the wood type too of each ships. Again your talking about a smaller ships which DD with no percentage but only having equal crew would do that, but you having to have 30% more crew means you have to have an Exxes or higher to auto board that Surprise and good luck with anything bigger without taking the crew down. So lets take a look at some ships if we where to attack players with DD. Prince/H Rattler with 130 crew can board any thing 91 crew or less Reno/Surpirse with 240 crew can board any thing 168 crew or less Endy/Trinc with 340/350 crew can board any thing 245 crew or less Aggy with 500 crew can board anything with 350 crew or less 3rd/Bellona with 650 crew can board anything with 455 crew or less Buc/Vict 800/840 crew can board anything with 588 crew or less L'Ocean with 1100 crew can board anything with 770 crew or less By the looks of these numbers and I tried to skip to the middle of each tier of ships pretty much you can in the smaller ships board some one with DD that is one tier below you. I get that and I actually have no problem with DD as is other there is no negative and it's a bit two strong as a 2 point perk. If you limit it to only effect when you have boarding prep up that means it's not effective 100% of the time and you have to turn it on. That seems more fair in game play that your prepared for the board so your going to resist it. If your not prepared than you should not have an "AUTO I DENIE YOU" just cause you have a 2 point perk. No other perks gives you an auto win/roll option against something in game. Even the books of 5 rings isn't an auto win. Oh speaking of folks saying it's OP, I beat guys with 5 rings with nothing but barricades (yes this was before the attack was nerfed) and they had marines too. It's all about having your preparation ready and being able to do things. The guy didn't have his prep up, was in an Aggy with Marines and I was in an Aggy and was 100-200 less crew cause he had hammocks. That book didn't mean nothing when you don't have preparation ready and some one else did. I was running only barricades and Muskets. I quickly destroyed his moral and got his crew down less to mine and it was over quickly. That book isn't a win all option if your not ready or even more have a clue what to do in boarding. 9 times out of 10 the reason some one gets beat in a board is cause they had zero preparation ready not cause of the skills or books, they just help. Sorry if you see some one coming at you and getting ready to push you into irons. TURN YOUR PREPARATION ON. That is why I bet half you guys are loosing boards to ragers is you don't turn it one, get boarded and have zero preparation and get curb stomped by guys that might not even have the book of 5 rings.....oh and yes I do have the book. I only run it on my pure board builds not my defense builds or on my 1st rates I run Barricades and 5 rings for defense only or for when I catch some one stuck in a battle in irons and easy pickings. Other wise boarding is to much a risk with the crew loast (since rum changes) that I don't want to come out limping out of the battle half crewed. Also if you get boarded and they have friends, your prob screwed no matter what mods they have. That is why I been running a lot of fights with barricades, Muskets and ax's not to attack, but to defend an attack and get your moral and crew down for the actual boarder or the guys to sink you. I don't need 5 rings to do that when most folks don't have board mods or they never turn there preparation on.

Yah but you have to remember down time right now is what works best for the devs. I would say it would prob be push back 2-3 hours to when it was before hand I think before the wipe which was a little better for all and at the slowest time. Even if they don't run a SEA/AU server I would suggest @admin look at puting the NA one on the west coast instead of the east coast to give ya'll better ping and keep to two servers prob? Even if they keep with one server they prob should move the EU server to the west coast (UK, France, etc) area for better over all pings. For me it's not really the issue with the ping other than when trying to demast and Believe me that half a second does make a difrence at times for folk, it's the dang lag spikes i get or constant drops that some of our AU players get. Than again that what they get for living in the out back and having dingo's steal there internet all the time....lol -
Yep as a few folks have found out recently with my anti board set up. Let them pull you while you have high prep up. Hold them and defend while team mates rip through there hull and structure. Use boarding axe's to disengage and watch them instantly sink. Worked in the port battle last weekend when I let the prince pull my mortar brig prob thinking it was an easy kill. Not often i get a PvP marks with a mortar brig unless it's deep water PB with 1st rates in it lol

PvP rewards for boarding
Sir Texas Sir replied to asuspiciousbear's topic in Current Feature Improvement Suggestions
AGAIN IF YOU WANT THE PVP MARKS SCUTTLE THE SHIP. THE SHIP IS YOUR REWARD OTHER WISE. Really how hard of a concept to understand that. I have ships worth millions and millions with the mods on them that is way more than a few PvP marks. I have scuttle ships with millions of gold of cargo cause I didn't want to drag it back (in enemy waters) so I scuttled it and just took the PvP marks. It's a choice you want. You want the PvP marks or do you want the ship? The ship is your reward. Just be glad we use to not get any thing when we captured the ship but bugged Dev's enough that we now get xp for the combat still even if you capture the ship. Why would they pay you in marks and gold if you keep the ship? Once again it's your reward, you want PvP Marks instead than just scuttle the ship, end of story. -
Maybe not a preset, but a load out for a ship so I can change the ship knowledge to a load out set up and or maybe other things. With perm mods you can't really do pre-sets on ships as you really need to make another ship if you want to do a diffrent load out of that same ship.

Combat and Trade/craft perks should not be linked. Your Combat Perks should go off your Rank and your crafting the Crafting level. That way solo players can have both going on instead of what we have. I have one char that is only a crafter. I have another that has the Mortar Brig perk and I use that one to haul stuff. While the other three are combat chars with specializations for Shallow or deep and such....folks shouldn't have to have multi accounts to do that. If they want to be a Lt Com and only Craft than they should be able to have the crafting perks off there rank 50 crafting. If you want to be a RA and only fight than you don't have to spend any perks in crafting or level up it.

and sail damage, it's sad to watch two low level guys or just normal guys in small ships do all the hard work keeping ships in a fight and taking down sails cause they can't pen a ship or they decrew and only to have some one higher rank or bigger ship come and get the kill cause they do more hull damage even though the little guy keep a ship tagged and slow down or even removed most of the crew. I even boarded a ship I did crew and sail damage to and didn't get the kill cause some one went next to it and did more hull damage while I was in boarding to the ship.

I take it you never serverd in the military? Even the office guys learned how to shoot guns and man stations when I was in the military (navy). We had an old saying if there was a fire on board the ship, "80% of engineering would prob be killed in the flash fire if something happen down there. It's the rest of the ships job than to put out the fire." This is why some of us not in that department but had stations close drilled along with them to be ready if the worse happens. Same with other departments. You don't just sit below deck while your crew mates all get killed above, if you can send guys up to make the advantage in the defense you send the guys up. Not to mention prob not even shooting half those guns any more once your in boarding action so why keep crew on them?
-
I kinda think it's funny I notice a lot of comments about the easy rage boarders are folks I never seen PvP or on the leader board or doing RvR. Yes some one can quickly push you into wind and rage board you, but if you fall for that than more than likely your a nob in the first place and they would prob out gun you in a fight if you don't spend it all running. In an actuall PvP/RvR fight it's way more than that and not very easy to get some one turned, slowed down and boarded. 99% of the boards I done in Port Battles was cause some one turned into irons and got stuck and I said hell, screw it and started my board prep and pulled them while they where still stuck in irons. They had zero prep and more crew than me but I beat them cause most folks don't have a clue how to play the rock paper scissors game either and they just mash buttons. Than they complained we raged boarded them and it was unfair. I liked it being tied to board prep, cause how are you going to push away that board attempt if your not ready and maybe a cool down would be good like the one they have to keep folks from doing chain boards.
-
I think it's been mention before that maybe it shouldn't be always active, maybe you have to have your boarding prep on to have it activated. I been in a few fights we all where sitting in a circle jerking off (excuse me explaination but that is what It felt like cause I was in the middle of a gank) and no one could board each other even though we where all sitting at zero knts cause we all had DD. Even though I was sitting at 100% board prep with board mods and all and even had more crew than one of the ships by 20-30 guys but it was just a hair off the 30% needed to board him. One of them (the one I was trying to board before his friends caught up) was not even running boarding prep when I pushed him into irons, that was when he blew the whistle when I get the dreaded, "NOT ENOUGH CREW." Message even though I had more than them. It was a lost fight, but I could of at least took out one of them before the others sunk me. So I say if your not prepped than it isn't active. This also means while it's active you can take more damage to your crew if your set to board prep all battle and you take crew from your sailing and gunnery. It's a good trade off of the skill. If you make any easy changes I would drop it from 30% to 20% crew needed.

Why would we have asian ships, this isn't world of tanks with some random match maker loby room. This game is about one area and one time....oh wait than what is Russia, Poland and Prussian doing here? LOL If they get a Junk or something like that I want one too...lol -
PvP rewards for boarding
Sir Texas Sir replied to asuspiciousbear's topic in Current Feature Improvement Suggestions
If you want PvP for boarding than scuttle the ship. Other wise if you keep the ship your only reward is the xp you got from damage. CM/PvP Marks are only for Kill and Assist. Why would you get a mark when you didn't sink the ship? Again if you want the PvP Marks scuttle the ship and than check the hull as it will drop one refit that the ship have and be on your happy way. If it's a good build than you can keep the ship and the mods on it and you don't get PvP Marks cause the ship is your reward. are you look at AI ships or player captured ships? AI's it won't show, just player captured ships. -

Yah should be a name change token, but don't see it being as much as the forged papers if it's for one time use. I kinda like that don't put them together it keeps folks from changing there names every month and trolling new nations. -
PvP rewards for boarding
Sir Texas Sir replied to asuspiciousbear's topic in Current Feature Improvement Suggestions
Your reward is the ship you captured, you want PvP mark you scuttle it. Some ships are worth keeping/capturing simply cause of the mods that are put on them and the builds. So they can be worth more than just a few points of PvP marks. -
Premium ship with congreve rockets
Sir Texas Sir replied to Njord's topic in Current Feature Improvement Suggestions
Yah the big issue I'm guess with the Hercules is going to be shallow port battles. We only seen one brought (one guy on our side the other night) to actual port battle, but the rest have been used for screening mostly. I think it should have a BR of 100, just like the Wasa which wasn't really OP other than it's BR placement made it so. The other thing would be nice if sail hits from a mortar had a chance to chatch them on fire.....I play a mortar brig a lot so I'm kinda bias and just want to watch a bunch of 1st rates burn....burn....burn....lol -
Wish they remove Pirates from chargen, only way to become a pirate is kill a fellow nation member. If your tired of being a pirate than delete your char and do the test or just use forge papers. Most of the folks we saw abusing the outlaw battles wasn't the pirates but nationals with pirate alts.

Would be nice if we had several levels of officers and what they can do. Like only higher ranks can touch the treasury and you can have junior officers that can just deal with mats in warehouse.

Premium ship with congreve rockets
Sir Texas Sir replied to Njord's topic in Current Feature Improvement Suggestions
We sunk a few and almost sunk a few more last night. The main reason it's OP is cause of it's speed and weapons. If you get some good players that team up and work together they can take them down fast. Specially when folks make them very squashy for the extra speed. Found out a lot of the WO ones we fought last night where teak teak and would damage very easly but just about all our engagement with them has been with slow port battle ships so we can't catch them so they control the fight pretty much. As for as premium ship I kinda like the chance to catch sails on fire and such, but in that video those where way to OP killing ships to easly. Maybe have a special mortar brig that isn't a light ship would be cool. I would love to see like as ship like the 3rd rate that has mortars on it, Maybe have 4 instead of 2 so they can do more damage and are more deadly but they are slow tugs so once you get in range if they aren't defended they are pretty much dead. -
This was the second PB for the night with GB. They gave a good fight and most of the sunks where at the last moment right before points was hit. They even was able to take back all circles but they where

I like this that means your ready for the defense or attack and it's not just auto. Was just in a fight early and while we all had DD no one could board cause while I had 30 more crew than one ship it wasn't 30%. So I couldn't board a Herc or Prince (the prince had less crew than me) and they couldn't board me. Even though we where all sitting still next to each other while they pound me with cannons. No one was moving and that is just stupid I should be able to pull one of them even if I had same or more crew if we are sitting at zero knts. Though it worked for me cause I didn't want them to cap my purple Niagara lol

RVR options
Sir Texas Sir replied to King of Crowns's topic in Current Feature Improvement Suggestions
We don't avoid you, the problem is your avoiding us by using 1am timers. Put one port in a prime time and that way they can't be multi flip and we will fight it out in the port battle. Why should we stay up late to hit your port if YOU WANT RVR? I don't get that logic, if you want RvR you need to set it to prime time or come have a fight with us. We haven't avoid any fights with ya'll. Why would we stop doing a grind to go to a port your flipping that we don't care about and can just defend? We actually was hoping you flipped it since it's in our prime time. The Brit port we can attack any time. Oh and we didn't even notice they had flipped deadmans cay so that is why it's an hour apart, there was no secret trying to put battles at same times. In fact we was going to expect GB to flip it back even if we won so we can do RvR back and forth with GB in fair fights, something you seem to have no clue about. If they wanted us to pull that fight cause they where busy at Deadmans we could do just that they just have to ask. You are just looking for more and more ways to be toxic and hurt other players. Come flip every port if you think that will make you winner. Hell bring your OP Hercs to shallows since you apparently can't win a straight up fight you just proved all you can do is gank and fight unfair fights. Just proof you saying you will bring Wassa and Ocenas to screen a shallow water port....lol KFC, the master of skills, brings SOL's to screen shallow ports...lol Again back on topic I would love to see raids, but just not in the means your suggesting. There has been many suggestions about ways to do raids, but it would be up to the Devs to figure out how they would want to do them fairly if they are to ever put raids into game. Remember this game is about having fun and if you run off the 99% of the majority of the players by making it to hard core you will have no players left to fight.
