  1. Yup, so did I.
  2. The guy who gets lucky is happy to sell his 5/5 fast trinco. That's how I understand it's worth. Don't underestimate the slot machine effect. The satire writes itself...
  3. Hmm... As long as they don't HAVE TO craft big ships or get ALL the shiny things they don't need that many doubloons.
  4. Found carta in bottle loot.
  5. Huh!? I've picked up 7 bottle loots since patch, none were over 400.
  6. Or those that played before patch still play after patch... I don't think we'll get a bump in numbers before well after the looming wipe associated with official release. "Your" PvE grazers got quite a bit of content with this patch, right? No more feeling excluded from PvP currency, more varied missions... Isn't that a step, or several steps, in the right direction according to your ideals? Please rephrase or elaborate so I can catch your drift, pls...
  7. Could be, but I doubt it. I think it's just an random thing based on how many days at sea. Admin hinted indirectly that capital zone fishing (proximity to any port?) isn't effective but other than that I think you could be anywhere.
  8. Ya, that sounds like a normal good one. British running rigging, greenheart, crooked, french cloth... stuff like that in "abundance". Testing bottle loot is a slow process but it seems Grietje, copper and carta are taken out of bottles.
  9. Stable is the word I'd use, but...
  10. ye, it used to be much better but you can still make ok fighting upgrades, use them or sell them for reals. I guess it depends on how much you want cash or how easy or hard your upgrade accessibility is. Would you throw away a pretty good chance at getting a small heap of doubloons, tho? That last bottle could've been the doubloon loot.
  11. What was in the good one?
  12. Yup, this is a perfect example of "be careful what you ask for". You won't be able to save your doubloons from other players, but your prayers might get answered in the form of admin making it impossible to destroy or throw doubloons overboard. Bad mechanic fixed!
  13. Rewards are dialed down a bit.
  14. Interesting... How would you argue that point? Shouldn't I be commended for exposing this ugly business instead?
  15. So, bottles have changed a bit with last patch. Loot isn't near as good as it used to but still ok for average fighting mods, some doubloons and low-ish yield trading goods. The books for elite mods are apparently gone. People will still be somewhat happy to find a bottle. The focus has shifted towards the new missions and chests for the good stuff. A normal PvEer can grind missions fast and get good stuff, but he will be underwhelmed when he picks up the loot from the super rare bottle drops. I'm entirely fine with it. You can grind missions in PvP, very, very few players can do that as time-efficient as with PvE but it's still *possible*.
  16. Hurr.. Durr.. war.
  17. Yes, I too find the "if you can't beat 'em, join 'em" approach to anti-gank-pro-fun ideas to be unimaginative. I've just given up on fighting for OW in general, it seems Chris wants his gankbox. Eco, full-loot-loss and doubloons fueled player psychology is a force I have no hope of changing. I believe more viable solo-play (pvp ofcourse) would play an important role in the recruitment and retaining of players. I won't settle for "as good as it gets".
  18. Why do you still think this will fly in OW with the wargamers, "playing it smart" guys, "playing with friends" dudes, sandboxers and "I don't like closed battles no matter what" players? I want what you want, but we can't have it in general OW (apparently). Some of us have focused on patrol zone RoE to enable our kind of fun. If we limit special RoE to patrol zones we have a realistic hope of getting it. Your posting history has been pro-sandbox. Sandbox = gankbox. It's inevitable for you to experience cognitive dissonance if you uphold sandbox ideals but dislike ganking. I'm not having a go at you; I empathize strongly but wonder how you sort these things in your mind.
  19. Do you want a forum without banter? Because that's how you get a forum without banter.
  20. 😔 We're given a bit a leeway, especially in news section, but rules are tighter in other sections and especially in patch feedback. It's super easy to avoid being silenced or banned; Just make sure you attack the idea, you can even put color to your strong feelings. Don't direct your words towards any person; That is a surefire way of avoiding unwanted attention (accidental irony). I know it's hip to purposefully misunderstand og misrepresent. Read my lips: Noone has even banned for criticism of features, ideas, suggestions or what have you. Now, look at the emotions being expressed in certain topics right now. People react. Mods and devs are people too. It would be quite easy to go full-on professional around here. To me that would be a terrible loss and a questionable gain, it would make me sad. forumites, pls...
  21. Everything tried has faced opposition due to breaking the ga... sandbox. In patrol zones we could do almost anything to promote fun because sandbox fundamentalists don't participate. Look at @Liq's patrol ROE topic. I'll link later...
  22. hmmpf... But it never did. Maaaybe there was a fledgeling materials crafter/seller market after austerity patch (which chased away too many players) but that pretty much died off after eco stuff and rewards were adjusted.
  23. I'm open to letting people have their fun, but I'm hesitant of getting daddy to pay for their crashed car when their bad choices leads to inevitable doom.
  24. Should these 4 Indiaman dudes be saved from themselves?
