Ooof! This stresses me out! I don't think I can defend "increasing tactical depth" in relation to dialing back repairs. It makes tactical decisions more acute or pivotal. It's like you demanding I show you how eating more healthy is going to make your food taste better.

I support this with all my might! Our views might diverge even with this common ground. This is how I see it: The more you keep equipment and grind bonuses in check the more skill and practice will shine. I haven't got deep understanding of all games in the world, but I've seen how Aces High and WoT have done things. Aces High is the purest as there is absolutely no equipment. It's chess with warbirds.Whatever you achieve there it's just you and there's nothing boosting your performance. That is what I picture in my head when I hear "skill based". Even if I'm against multireps I agree with the above, all of it. Problem for me is that the best benefit the most and I admit to thinking like a socialist on that point. You know I bitch and moan about equipment whenever I see the opportunity Multireps is special as it manipulates the HP balance of ships based on how rich a player is or how much he can grind for northern masters et al. Sounds fantastic! (Look, look! I made it through an entire post without mentioning speedmods!... doh!)

Heh, it adds a multiplicative layer to skill that's almost entirely equipment based. I do admit there is some skill involved with timing. I don't celebrate that some people can pull off 1v5 due to the multiplied skill (EQUIPMENT) gap, I still cry myself to sleep over this at times. Two things made Doran walk away: silly OW timers and multireps. Those who remember him will know he would be the one to benefit the most from multireps. Now that OW timers are right again there might be hope. I nag at him to come back on occasion. "jodgi, dude... What are the OW timers and have reps been fixed?"

We both play in the same faction. We would have to find a fighting bot to demast before getting it on. You're right, tho. Just hit up someone on chat, arrange to get suitable ships there which can take time depending on tow availability and have at it. Should be fairly easy. I've done it quite a lot in the past and I see people occationally arrange OW duels. But it can be a hassle with distances, tap out rules discussion and some people fuss over the risk of being interrupted. Then there is the cost in cash or time to get ships ready. Shouldn't be so hard but in my experience people perceive it as "hard". People wouldn't ask for training or duel rooms if they perceived setting it up in OW as a truly "no sweat" deal.

Hmm... You're not wrong. But look at it this way: Yesterday (or was it saturday...?) Me and laik smashed an easy target outside tortue because he was unlucky enough to be there at the same time we were. Later I did a solo leeward island run and smashed a probable bonafide new player. If we still had duel room me and Laik would've spent most of that day in there. It's not so much that good players don't want to fight eachother, but it's simply a hassle to do.

Development plans for the H2 2018

No... No, no, no. Definitely not. I was part of the campaign asking for short timers two years ago. I dunno... I just don't want to be part of the pitchforks and torches gang whenever admin doesn't tell us EVERYTHING. Besides, he's said notes will come later. I'm fine with that, truly am... And I've been through this no info - plenty info quite a few times now. I could document my NA time and thus my eligibility to comment and you could do the same. I mean prove by third party witnesses. -

Why that assumption? -
"Good players don't need upgrades."
-
Ok, then...
-
Ok, ok... Req + Elite Spanish is indeed meme material.
-
Slighty OT, but you started it. fir/fir req goes 7 knots running with the wind. Crazy stuff can still be done with upgrades and books, but can you bring 7 knots up close to t/wo diana running at 11.6? Did you try to escape at 120-135?

You don't even have to ask, they put up notes for all patches. Some minor hotfixes come unannounced, but I don't see why we should get our panties in a bunch over that. -

Not entirely sure they're "afraid" of what duel room did or could do. When we had duels I still had to sit on global and beg for duels when my friends weren't on. I know the general push is to make people go out into OW, maybe duel rooms were pulled as "collateral damage" and not because it actually mattered. I'm a bit afraid of them being afraid of what fun anti-gank patrol zones could lead to. I know I'm being paranoid.
-
Dude, you may be right, but Rakers frikkin' existed in duel rooms only towards the end. Doran's last moments in NA was in duel room.
-
Well, I would use the practise room most of the time and in favour of OW. I want it and I'm aware I'm shooting myself in the foot.

What works and what doesn't as intended

Are you sure that mast pen gets progressively easier as mast hp is depleted? Semantics, but you could view it as repairing carriages and mounting guns back in place. Explain, please. This used to happen but it's been a long time since I tested. It has also been argued that overpen should translate to less damage done (I've seen posts here about self closing holes and minimal splinter damage). Damage to ropes, shrouds and whatnot isn't modeled. I think it's a deliberate design decision. Imagine what would happen if we could bring down masts by chaining? You could view the controversial mast sniping as a way of representing rigging targeting. Mast sniping is somewhat skillbased while it's hard to imagine the same with chain lobbing.
