  1. Captains should be advised that there are several highly skilled privateers sailing in the open seas. Privateers usually operate solo in a fast ship equipped only with chasers or sometimes no guns at all for better speed. They hire up to 50% of their crew as marines and also upgrade their ships with other boarding improvements. It is hard to execute boarding with 50% of your crew not participating in sailing and gunnery, but if that said privateer boards you it will usually lead to devastating results. Your crew won't be able to defend properly. Counter-attacking them is also risky even if you have a higher crew because of the barricaded decks. There are cases when such captains are able to win when outnumbered 3v1 and stay alive capturing all enemy vessels. Captains not willing to engage in boarding combat should take extreme care and stay downwind denying the opportunity to board at all costs, keeping their speed above 4knots. We are also investigating the reports.

    Hotfix - 9.67

They were useful when commands were enabled - really helping Captains who did not want to run. But some clever guys started giving bots stop command and farmed them. After this was disabled they became useless and did not provide any protection at all (sometimes firing through your sails for example) Basically any good feature in a multiplayer game will be abused unfortunately we either have to close eyes on them or disable.
  3. Captains! Minor hotfix was deployed today. What's new: Flags updated for several countries Reinforcements were disabled temporarily for rework Captains no longer can enter battles from invisibility/invulnerability to avoid port hopping and hiding in battles for the purpose of ganking Fixed bugs: Boarding parties upgrade bug fixed Unsynced gun sounds for several ships fixed Several typos in gun tooltips fixed
  4. We believe in "less talk more action" hypothesis
  5. планировалось такое но пока отложили где 15 мест резервировалось под assault fleet идущий с флагом
  6. Again will repeat. both tribunals (or complaints in PM) said that danes have used alts. Case one - player who attacked danes was a british master and commander Case two - player who attacked danes was a british first lieutenant in a mercury Both players accounts have no history of switching nations and played for at least a month, had assets and outposts in british ports and had a rank required time to achieve. You have not answered the question. Why would M&C risk his time in game and all assets and outposts for a one time attack? And how people asking for lynching can guarantee it was not a genuine mistake caused by lack of knowledge of mechanics or other reasons. What if he seeing large fleet in the vicinity attacked to help his nation chasing an easy kill?
  7. Fixing 20% of annoyances will solve 80% of problems. There are 3-4 things that are lacking and will be addressed during 2016 Lack of meaningful PVE content - which 50% of players require Lack of politics/alliances/war and peace mechanics - which will affect 10-30% of players Bad UI - will affect 100% of players Events and tournaments for people who want balanced competitive content (maybe) Once its done - the rest is just tuning and fixing bugs. The game will be somewhat complete and we will just have to add ships. Happy players just play and don't come to forums. People who come to forums come to complain - that is why forums feel somewhat negative - but even those who complain they love parts of the game and just want to make it better. Those who hate the game just uninstall and don't even register on forums.
  8. Where else you can take a Renommee designed by the famous Sane to a somewhat realistic depiction of age of sail naval battle? But why it makes you unhappy? And what did you expect from the game?
  9. нужно смотреть после земли но там пока тоже ящик пандоры - во внутренних тестах вроде все ок - но любой план всегда меняется когда соприкасается с большой группой игроков
  10. We are conflicted about this for one reason 1) Right now you cannot find a large PVE engagement even if you want to. 2) This feature (or to some players - exploit) provides this option There are two solutions Disable reinforcement until large pve fleets or epic events are added Keep reinforcement and close the eyes for people arranging PVE for themselves. Keep in mind that a large port battle generates a lot more XP and Gold (from 3000xp and up to 1 mln gold if you participated in a very large engagement) And OW trafalgars if they happen provide a loads of xp and gold for both sides because there are no victory modifiers - you get excellent xp just when you sink enemies even if you lose the battle. So what is the community view on this? Disable Or Keep?
  11. I play in a small group leveling only in pvp. The largest battle i saw was the mix pirates/danes 10v12 brigs/frigates. Most battles are duels and small engagements from 1v1 to 4vX depending on our risk appetite that evening. More than 50% of battles are duels for members of my group (of course for every great duel there are a couple of great chases) My only concern is that for solo fights there are only 4 viable ships (maybe 5) privateer (for traders and light ships) niagara renommee trincomalee (maybe surprise if you run by tacking but will not work in many cases against a big gank) the rest just cannot escape in most cases
  12. Before it gets too far we want to clarify our statement as it seems that our message is being rephrased away from its real meaning. We never said we don't want more players (more happy players). We said that games always bleed players and its ok. It happens for many reason and other dolls are the main reason. I don't play Empire total war and XCOM - i got all i wanted out of them. They bleed players but its ok. If you got everything you wanted out of the game its ok to move on. This does not say anything about the game. Main reason people leave they found something more exciting for a while and will come back this is not something they expected but they accept that this view is also good but not for them (hardcore AC Black flag fans for example who prefer fast action on sailing motorboats with instakills from swivels) they hate the game (reviews show that its not the case) or some mechanics that game is not going to change Naval Action is an experience trying to show certain elements of age of sail combat and conquest the way the captain of that time saw them (with certain simplifications). This experience might not be exciting to some and its ok. Take ganking for example. Vanstabel convoy (100 ships) ganked at least 20 british vessels on its way to France from USA. USS Constitution escaped from the gank - the so-called Great Chase. Yet many people don't like it and they call ganking the reason they are leaving the game. Should we care for this? It was part of the real age of sail experience. Purists will say it should stay - but it bleeds players.
  13. We are not going to ban for this (will just make an angry unhappy face), while we are adding large epic pve events there is no other way you can get large pve battle. But we don't like it. By the way we already disabled the best reinforcement feature (the option to give bots orders) because some clever captains were giving them stop command and bots did nothing - this was fixed the next day it was discovered in a hot fix in Jan. Any good mechanic is going to be abused. Here we don't have a strong position because they fight and you can find a spawn on the OW too. If community says its a bad bad thing we will disable reinforcements until their improvement.
  14. Reset will happen after basic alliances/political systems and/or war/peace mechanics are implemented (port investments were mentioned by us before but we are still not sure about them as they seem to be turning into a fake feature a random money sink forcing people to spend money to play).
  15. How is it different from just finding a spawn spot of a large 3rd rate 6 ship fleet and farming it? No second account required. It spawns right there after the battle to be attacked again. It can be killed faster than a reinforcement fleet providing more xp and money per hour.
  16. Servers are unbiased. They show data, not intent. They won't be able to read people's minds for a while. There were 2 tribunals over the last week for example Case one: Player Khorne74 attacking a danish player pulling everyone into the battle (danes and brits) Case two: Player Britgamer attacking a cutter pulling a large fleet into the battle. Both players who attacked the enemy had their player set up at least a month before today. Both of them have never switched nations Both of them have outposts and ships in the british ports (or formerly british ports) and did trading with brits only If they deleted the accounts to create a brit specifically for the purpose of this one time attack they would not have any british assets. Of course maybe they are really smart spies and created a time bomb spy 2 months ago to make this one time hit and run but we doubt it. So the question to all who want to lynch them Are you sure they did not do it by mistake? Who will risk their 1-2 months of playtime by collaborating with the enemy ONCE? Thats why we ask for videos - because server logs show a valid attack on the enemy ship not showing that they did it to specifically bring SLNR into battle. ps. using alts in a basic cutter issue is different and will be addressed by design (hopefully) Captains who have ideas on the super awesome new ROE should post them in the suggestions or OW sections. Once the rules are clear its easy - for example We ban a lot of people from chat every week based on reports you send us. The goal for tribunal is not also to punish but find the rules that will make gameplay better

    Invis Tagging

yes its a bug it was supposed to be fixed previous patch but did not get in players won't be able to join battles with the invul timer - this will solve 2 problems port hopping and waiting in battles with the bait outside.
  18. People tend to remember great moments from the past (and bad moments too) Those videos are examples of the great moments from the sea trials. You don't see videos of early ST where people were ganging up on 1 side (before autobalancer) or running forever or damage farming (just before closing the sea trials) or empty ST when people voted for OW and were just waiting for new ships and new content. Basically there were bad moments in ST as well but they were fixed or forgotten. Before battles were forced onto players by a battle circle of death ST were really really bad. Moments that you shown on the videos happen both in large port battles AND on the open world a lot still. and happen a lot. Small events balancer has flaws and will be improved of course. We are now focused on the land in battles all other things can wait. ps. it can sound like a bad joke, but naval action is an experience and long boring moments of doing nothing were also part of the life of the Age of Sail Captain
  19. But you have captured one player's third rate - did not you ruin his game for no cost? If we go this route we are going to touch a lot of grey areas Regarding this particular situation we said what we wanted to add above. Until you are able to assign prize crew and give a command this mechanic will work the way it works now. The ruleset does not know if enemies are sailing to you or away from you at this stage. In your particular case i would just exchange one belle poule for 3rd rate (sailing close and pressing x) and would exit the battle saving 1 hour. Because of 5 min battle over timer he won't be able to sail back to to claim your belle poule left in battle.
  20. there are two sides to this problem and one of them is solvable another is not 1) We are fixing the fact that you can enter battles out of port (invisible or with invul timer) - so no more sitting in battles leaving bait outside. 2) Second is scanning the horizon - if you see enemy sails on the horizon they can enter your battle if they are 2 mins away from you and if they enter the battle they will exhibit all kinds of enemy behavior in battle. We police chat but we don't police how people fight you are his enemies.
  21. Many people say that grind is very bad in NA - but the only reason it is in game right now is to provide somewhat realistic experience of the Captain slowly going up the ranks. It took nelson 30 years to get to the highest rank and overwhelming number of community members have asked us to slow down progression before release (it was much faster in testing for testing purposes. Grind is easy to address - but it also means players will try the ships they and will move on. Moving on its great. We believe that in many games online goes down over time and it is fine. Its natural. Death is the best evolution mechanism (but of course its too early to talk about death in early access). The amount of content in the world is only going to increase. We only want players to come back when they feel like it. We don't want to create artificial walls or chains that tie player to the game. Not sure if it is appropriate but our thoughts on requiring players to stay in one game are summarized best in this somewhat inappropriate video
  22. Right now it works like this yes. If enemies are present you cannot take both ships. But you could sacrifice your cheapest ship - take control of the bellona and exit the battle. In this case you will lose -1 durability on your cheapest ship and still leave with a bellona. This topic is not black and white unfortunately - if denying enemy a capture is griefing then taking enemy bellona is also griefing. Parties did not have to stay in battle for an hour. You can exit any time if you don't receive damage. They just wanted to cap that bellona, while enemy did not want them to capture it.
  23. it was supposed to be fixed last patch but for some reason did not get in invul will not allow battle entry after the next hot fix
  24. Our current position on such things is currently simple Denying enemy the capture is a valid war tactic. Current ruleset awards the capture if no enemies are present in the vicinity. You are allowed to use tactics that were used in the age of sail. In this case enemy frigate shadowed your fleet and denied the capture. Workaround within current ruleset is simple (in which you don't get the capture, but enemy does not get it too) Battle closes automatically 5 mins after BATTLE OVER message Chase enemy for 5-10 mins away from the boarded ship. Once the distance is sufficient just exit the battle together This will generate battle over message and it will close in 5 mins Enemy won't make it back to the boarded ship to claim it It is not the best outcome but at least the enemy ship is lost forever and they did not claim it back. This feature would work properly if 2 mechanics were in place After you capture the ship you can assign an officer to it and send a prize crew to the boarded vessel. After assigning the crew and officers you give the ship the order to escape the battle.
