Wind Compass 180 deg wrong
Henry d'Esterre Darby replied to SgtScud's topic in Current Feature Improvement Suggestions
I wanted to step up and say that I stand corrected. I paid very special attention to the wind indicator today, and realized that I hadn't noticed that the wind generally starts from the North, and then shifts around - it most certainly did not remain on the 0. So that said, I shall amend my statement to say the following: As a compass, it is backwards. 1 should start clockwise, not anti-clockwise. I would like to see the shaded section, as suggested above, be on the origin, not the end of the arrow, to indicate the "no go" zone for a sailing vessel. It doesn't have to be exact for the type of rig, but it stands to reason that the shaded section, being a small percentage of the total area, should represent a bad point of course. -
Looking forward to seeing you on the water. No worries, you should have a key on Friday, though I know the wait is killing you. Welcome!

Registration / Key / Installation / Activation Problems
Henry d'Esterre Darby replied to Barberouge's topic in Support
Use Steam Login. Sometimes, it doesn't work very well - I've seen reports of similar errors from people who have been testing for a while. Try completely closing Steam (reboot the computer for good measure) and see if that helps. -
Game Introduction

A quick correction - strike "Best possible" position for your sails and make it "situation that works". Auto-skipper doesn't always set the best possible angle for your sails, and nor should it. This is especially apparent when you're lying close to the wind or in irons and need the bow to move a certain way. Auto-skipper just means that, at a loss of overall speed and control, you can generally keep your ship moving in the direction you want it to. When you take over manual control and have a good idea of what you're doing, you can far exceed auto-skipper in certain situations. -

When you say the top sail didn't "work", what do you mean? -
How is this a technical problem or a bug again? Please take a quick look at historical ships before you come railing about things that are fantasy. I can guarantee you the Developers have forgotten more about the Age of Sail than you have learned in PotBS. Start by Googling HMS Ontario, the real ship that the Snow is modeled off of (and will more closely resemble with the next few Dev passes).

If you ordered three days ago, you probably should have received your key today. Make sure you're checking the email account that is listed on your PayPal profile, and check the spam filter. If it's still not there, see the http://forum.game-labs.net/index.php?/topic/2018-help-missing-steam-key-email-what-to-do/ thread and follow instructions there - you'll want to send as much information as possible to ensure they can find your order and manually send you a key.

A quick note - I'm not a Game-Labs staffer, the following is just my take on what I think they mean. There are quite a few forumers, some of them pretty well known on YouTube that stream and post videos of the game on a regular basis. The intent of Admin's statements, in my opinion, is to not allow someone to use in-game video to denigrate the game (e.g. "See! Look right there, it's obvious these guys have no clue what they're doing! Wow, look at the lines going right through that sail, what awful modeling!" - unfounded, negative statements like that). If you're playing along in a stream and there is a little bug, you might say "oops, part of being an Alpha tester is finding little problems, I'll make a note of that and let's go on with what we were doing." A huge bug, you might cut the feed and restart the game. If you're making a video and there's a huge crash or a monster problem, you'd just edit it out or not use that footage.

AI really shoots behind you (at least in the Snow). I had a brig, then a snow and a cutter, and then a brig again on parallel course, wind directly amidships, 75% sails or 100% sails, every shot from every ship landed behind me. They didn't hit me once all match despite my closing to nearly doubleshot range with every ship. They did manage to sink a friendly cutter, so they were hitting someone, but at least with regards to parallel courses, they're not quite there. Charles, were you sailing something with larger cannon pre-patch? The reload rate seemed about the same for 6 pounders to me, but I don't have a raw time before/after either.

This is as good a place as any. Welcome!

I can't blame you. I've been testing for a little while now and I'm really stoked about the new ships and am practically dancing in my chair.

Are you two talking about the same thing here? Historically, many ships changed their gun sizes and layouts based on a perceived performance deficit. In some cases, carronades on the quarterdeck/forecastle might be struck into the hold while at sea to increase the ship's weatherliness, or in response to a different threat profile for the area. Would you strike an entire gun deck of 9-pounders while at sea? Probably not. There should be a performance difference when you choose different armaments for your vessel. Going down in cannon size, or deciding not to put guns on a main deck that also served as a working area for the ship is a good idea (when done in port, or in the case of smaller guns on a quarterdeck/forecastle, when done while at sea and not in battle) and should have good/bad performance implications. For example, I decided to put all 9'lb guns on my Surprise, when the default is 9s and 6s. The increase in weight should have an impact on my performance, and I should have to make the choice between better broadside weight or better performance. My understanding was that Captains made choices like that historically, so long as the victualling yard could be convinced to trade their guns out. Additionally, one of the last things done when one was being chased by a superior foe and the foe was gaining on them was to dump the water and cannon overboard to lighten the ship and increase speed. Whyever do you think you wouldn't be able to replace those guns once you got to port? If you got away, and saved your ship from being destroyed or taken for certain, the Admiralty is going to thank you and replace your guns. If you're a Privateer, you can shell out gold and replace them, same for a merchant. Replacement of those guns and stores is going to be far less expensive to your wallet and/or reputation than losing an entire ship and having to ransom your crew.

I can understand your excitement to get started, but they're adding two new ships today, cut them a little bit of slack please. Most outages are usually pretty short.

Suppression and stun
Henry d'Esterre Darby replied to maturin's topic in Current Feature Improvement Suggestions
So taking fire from more than one ship effectively removes your ability to fight? I'm not a fan of this as written. I might be ok with slowing a few things down, a little. But full stops on most of what your ship does is far too overbearing and doesn't really sound like a lot of fun. -
This really sounds like a local problem to me (but I am not a Dev). Something is interfering with your inputs, think outside the box of what you've already unplugged. Does the mouse or keyboard have additional sliders/inputs that may be to blame?

I wasn't casting any aspersion on your choice of media to take the screen, just answering the Gentleman's question above. In regards to negative behaviors in chat, hopefully we all can make a maximum effort to keep to the Articles of War and treat our enemies, and friends, with all the respect due to them. Edited to ensure nobody thought I was accusing Senor Gomez of ungentlemanly conduct.
