  1. Mr. Khan, we are not currently testing "Open World Tactics". This is Sea Trials, we are testing ship to ship combat and balance. That does not include running away the whole match without trying to engage. The circle has been added, please fight your ship. Once the Open World is available for testing, there will be plenty of time to experiment with the instance escape mechanics.
  2. In game actions within the boundaries of the mechanics are welcome and expected. By all means, find the enemy, and sink, burn, or take her a prize any way you lawfully can. People creating a toxic environment of hate and extreme rudeness towards other players will not be tolerated. Everyone has paid their money, and everyone deserves to be treated with a basic level of respect by their fellow players.
  3. One small thought - applying historical behaviors to a system that has no loss, no setback if you're destroyed, no risk to one's self isn't the best approach in my opinion. Once we have Open World, where you may want to try and save your ship and crew from a superior force to preserve them and your ship, making a tactical withdrawal will be an excellent idea. In the current Sea Trials, it's a tad boorish in my opinion. But as Admin has mentioned, since it truly doesn't matter either way, the pursuers can leave the battle just as easily as the pursued, so it's a wash ethically.
  4. I was hoping maybe it would tie into the odd behaviors seen when controls are customized. When this happens, how long ago had you hit Q/E or Z/C? If you had hit those keys, had you mashed them down, or tapped a few times?
  5. Everyone always thinks they want Democracy, right up until it gets abused by coordinated attacks. Let's say your guild doesn't like someone, you simply post in your forums "make sure to block Henry whenever you see him, his ship is the wrong shade of blue". Next thing you know, Henry faces punishment for nothing more than having a ship in a particular shade of blue that he fancies. Either the number of reports has to be so high to prevent abuse that it is meaningless, or people are getting punished left and right for private quarrels. We have a number of moderators who themselves are overseen by Admin, we have a report function, my personal opinion is that things are working as intended right now.
  6. We don't need this to turn into rules lawyering or accusations of favoritism. No set of rules can be written in such a way as to be complete and unambiguous, while still being readable, easy to follow, and easily enforced. Because of this, some amount of common sense must be applied by the player base in following those rules, or in being adult enough to apologize if you are found to have crossed the line. If you feel the rules have been applied inappropriately or with bias, please contact an uninvolved moderator or use the support email. Let's keep this thread on topic please!
  7. As this is a discussion of tactics, and not current build game mechanics, I'm moving the thread to General Discussion, where it will not distract the developers from discussions of changes, problems, or features of the current Sea Trials build. Thanks!
  8. This thread was moved from the Sea Trials board, which is set aside for discussing the current Sea Trials build, to General Discussion so as to keep the Sea Trials board more clean and easy to read for the Developers.
  9. Those of you having this problem - have you customized your controls at all? Or are they bone-stock default - never been modified?
  10. Please follow BungeeLemming's advice. With a Tester badge, you should have access to the game regardless of your pre-order. That said, there may also be value in having that pre-order key, which you have paid for already. Please send an email to the support address on Mr. Lemming's response, indicate that you were a Tester and don't have access, and also indicate that you pre-ordered when the page was up and haven't yet received a Steam Key. While you're at it, ask them how you should proceed given that you have both Tester and Pre-Order status.
  11. That's far too much information in my opinion. While there might be a hole, the x-ray view showed by Admin is far too informative if it's going to show you a module by module, crew group by crew group, damage report.

  13. For grins, have you tried bypassing everything but the modem by plugging directly into it? If the modem is an all in one switch/router/firewall, that might be pointless. Heck, try Starbucks (though I'm not sure if they're passing the correct ports there or not).
  14. If you're ever in doubt, it's likely better not to post it. That said, you can always PM a forumer with a Moderator role if you need to ask a question about something you'd like to post, we'll be happy to answer your question.
  15. Thanks Maturin. I knew it was extremely applicable to racing, but wasn't sure about in reference to general navigation. In my real world experience, the vessel with the fewest and lowest powered water balloon launchers has to give way. Makes regattas extremely interesting when people have surgical tube launchers installed amongst the stanchions and shrouds.
  16. This has nothing to do with "turning" to port sir, and everything to do with what tack the ship is on. The image references a port tack versus a starboard tack, and in many cases is more for racing I believe. In game, the bigger ship has the right of way. The larger ship is harder to maneuver, and has more guns to bring on the enemy. Please give way at all times to the larger ship so they can maximize the damage on the enemy.
  17. Excellent! Thanks for posting the solution.
  18. This topic was covered by the following thread: http://forum.game-labs.net/index.php?/topic/498-multiple-players-crewing-the-same-ship-and-other-ramblings
  19. heh, I don't think she's any less ugly than Victory.
  20. Personally, I don't put a full broadside through the main sail area of a friendly. I have led or trailed a ball or two through a flying jib or spanker as the boat drifted into the very first/last part of my broadside, but the real risk you run with a full broadside through the sail plan is taking down a mast, which would be bad for your team. So: 1 - no, I shiver the sails and let the friendly by. 2, definitely not. I'm worried about taking down/weakening a mast. 3, if that friendly is coming, and I might trail a ball or two through the flying jib, I'll generally take the shot as that single ball isn't really going to do appreciable damage.
  21. You can change your forum name yourself in the Edit your Profile section. The Devs will have to change your in game name (which you already knew).
  22. As long as they're generic enough. You don't want a trademark lawsuit landing on your head.
  23. Of course they don't have to be English! I'd heartily hope that taverns would be named in the local language.
  24. I love the idea, but we don't even know if there will be taverns in Open World. That said, what better place to keep this going than in the Tavern. Let's see, I like: The Drunken Sailor Dog Watch The Rusty Anchor The Spirit Room
