Henry d'Esterre Darby replied to Sir Darric Vandhelm's topic in Current Feature Improvement Suggestions
Ooooops, Prater I do believe you are correct. My most sincere apologies to Sir Vandhelm. I have removed my post. Having re-read the post, I quite like the idea. -
Forum section only for patch notes
Henry d'Esterre Darby replied to Gatsu's topic in Current Feature Improvement Suggestions
I like this idea myself. If nothing else, the patch notes could be put into the "Announcements" forum. That said, you can always find Patch Notes for Sea Trials on the forum of that name. -
You've done nothing to offend me. Actually, there is usually a person who shows up whenever the rules are being discussed that tries to bring Freedom of Speech and other politics in - I was nipping that in the bud before it began. Your post wasn't offensive in any way. The post bordered on politics, which is forbidden, however, if you'd like to summarize the attempt and effects of what happened we can discuss that. In effect, the occasional word will slip out, it's when it becomes a habit, or escalates into a series of back and forth cursing that it begins to become a problem. Mostly, people grossly abusing the rule get a warning, I only know of one ban to date (and that was extremely excessive). Admin understands in the heat of the moment something might slip out, it's when every moment is the heat of the moment, and a Captain complains about it, that action might be taken.

With regards to in-game behavior. Yes, people are annoying sometimes. The Developers have been extremely responsive in incorporating game mechanics to limit behavior that they find unacceptable. In the case of damage farming, there has been an unequivocal statement that one should fight their ship and not sit idly by to let others get "free" damage. Short of that, the mechanics enforce the rules. If you disagree with the way a player is behaving, you can either avoid them in that match and ignore them, or exit and play a new match with different folks.

The "swear" words used have changed significantly over the years. The f-bomb dropping sailor is more a product of the 20th Century compared to to the "salty" language of an 18th Century Jack.

Personally, I could do without that, but it might be nice as an option. -

Independent Players?
Henry d'Esterre Darby replied to Magnum's topic in Patch Feedback and General discussions
I've long maintained a maintenance cost that scales by ship size for time spent operating this ship. Costs of that nature could be used to prevent too many ships with high Ratings from being on the sea as it would take specific, dedicated, and specialized gameplay to maintain enough funds to keep them from falling apart or being deserted. -
The Official line from Admin is that if you are having significant problems with another player, exit and start another match. If you don't want to do that, fine, don't play the Victory's game, sail out, fight hard, get sunk, and leave him to his own devices near the spawn. Different approach, same outcome (and at least you'll get some damage).

Independent Players?
Henry d'Esterre Darby replied to Magnum's topic in Patch Feedback and General discussions
No, he's saying that if someone sails out alone in a heavily laden Indiaman with no escort and a few TDA Privateers notice them, and they're a fair target, that person has singled themselves out for special attention by running a valuable ship and cargo with inadequate protection. Please calm down and let's get back on topic. -
You are not required to sail with this person. If you enter a match and they are there, simply exit the match and go join another. Let them take on the enemy team all alone if they will not support their fellow Captains.

Independent Players?

Umm...let's get back on topic please. The topic is: And I'll add: "Can/should the individual player have the same opportunities as groups of players?" -
The "HOME" key View.
Henry d'Esterre Darby replied to Sir Cloudsley-Shovell's topic in Patch Feedback and General discussions
First Home unlocks the camera. Second home causes the camera, in its current position, to travel at the same speed and direction as your ship, and the third press sends you back to ship view/control. -
Independent Players?
Henry d'Esterre Darby replied to Magnum's topic in Patch Feedback and General discussions
And that's all dependent on the particular group you're joining. I've been in a number that were extremely casual, yet still well organized to where you could easily get help when you were online if you needed it. Some need you to be online constantly, others just want you to say hi once in a while. It's still early, I'm sure we'll see all kinds of groups forming, but I still, as I stated before, think it's important to have good individual gameplay as well.
