There's not much hard thinking when advantages sum up always cover the disadvantages. Not diminishing returns, but equivalent disadvantages. And i mean serious ones. Example, many pirates did refit their "veffels". They would flush below decks so more cargo and crew space at the expense of ship solidity. They did "improve" rigging for specific wind conditions at the expense of performance in rough seas, etc. Everything is a plus atm. Not much thinking going on, and it starts with woods

Voting for the next patrol zone area
Hethwill, the Red Duke replied to Liq's topic in Current Feature Improvement Suggestions
La Tortue area should be a permanent Patrol Zone. Actually... all free ports should be permanent Patrol Zones. No need for votes if it would be this way... 😀- 17 replies

Captin, we're safe! .. Are we?
Hethwill, the Red Duke replied to Liq's topic in Patch Feedback and General discussions
Correct, there's plenty to do. But if in PvP server and sailing around one is always in pvp mode - meaning you are accepting the risk & rewards. If in PvE server, then the subject does not exist, but i suspect you are not writing about a PvE server. Safe zones is a 100% different subject. They are a odd limbo at the moment with some weird rules of engagement. And that's exactly the point of discussion. Safe zones should promote love for PvP in the PvP server, and not be a PvE server enclave. And that's the gordian knot. -

Captin, we're safe! .. Are we?
Hethwill, the Red Duke replied to Liq's topic in Patch Feedback and General discussions
Jamaica, just as an example, was heavily raided back then same as any other nation home waters, but it was a chase, a 2 minute entry battle ( or insta close ones ). We didn't have the luxury of having 10 minutes and positional spawning. I have sympathy for all raider types, but damn guys, you transformed this into a science. Literally you just "cut the chase"... there's no chase. Simply sit and wait and take advantage of the positional spawn to farm. Can't think of another word, sorry. I know it is how the game is atm and I am one defending the no Safe Zones, but not like this, not with this RoE, this is nothing. This is "mugging" at its best and cannot believe any serious captain wanting to enact raider types likes it. It is pure gaming the game... but alas is not the player's fault, but the result of our requests. Sorry to the guys we interrupted yesterday, but was a proof of concept. I simply don't understand why you all had the same comment in every single battle.. - "why you helping brits" - You failed in your assessment. We weren't helping brits. We were trying to fight zone gankers. Big difference. -
385 crew La Requin
Hethwill, the Red Duke replied to Old Crusty's topic in Current Feature Improvement Suggestions
245 + 5 officers. But justifying a wrong with another wrong makes no sense. 450 sailors in a cruise frigate ... ? ...why... ? Sorry if i overstep your judgement. I just pointed the reasons are not coherent but driven of a deep dislike of that particular ship and what she can do. I mean, we can overcrew a lot of ships. Put Fusiliers on british ships or irish mercenaries on the french ships... sure we can. Why not ? But then, sir, what is the purpose to do that if not recreating the purpose they had in reality ? ... Totally agree, the very cramped affects the xebec a lot, as much as it affects a Victory. Hammocks, sure. Light ship hammocks - bang. You see... everything you find useful for one ship, is also useful for all other ships in the game. Whether you like the ship, or not. So, again, sorry. But, much to my slight disappointement, we have no nightmare logistics. We can sail for a 100 days at sea without problems feedin a crew of 385. No one will get sick even. But the same happens to all ships. 40 crew ones, and a 1400 crew one ( my my what have i done with my ship of the line... might name her titanic ! ). There's no logistics. Costs the same for me to put my schooner in the water for a cruise as much as it costs you to put a heavy frigate. And damn sir, i find that very very hard to believe it was possible... --- Don't take me harsh friend we all play the same game and believe me when i say i am the first wanting this as credible as possible, but have to live with the devs designs until they are changed. Hope we can see a more accurate portrayal of realism in the future. For the sake of those who want it, at the expense of those who don't want it. See what i did there ? Snappy salute. -
385 crew La Requin
Hethwill, the Red Duke replied to Old Crusty's topic in Current Feature Improvement Suggestions
Yes. But not bringing that logistical reasoning. with 385 crew laying rough i'd say you barely have space to man the gun carriages properly... but hey who needs the guns. Most of the notable actions by xebec raiders were, indeed, "rageboards" and not gunnery duels. -

There's no logistics in game at that level. It is a no factor. -
August 1746, ship under command of Captain Clymer taken by two spanish Xebecs in the West Indies. ( i am certain, with sarcasm, that this was such a rare occurrence that it became a footnote on the London Gazette ) Let us see a yankee privateer... 1779 General Wayne. Pennsylvania xebec. Guns: 3. Crew: Aug. 31 70. Bond: $10,000. Master: Robert Collings. Bonders: John Hazel Wood, Philadelphia. William Allibone, Philadelphia. Owners: John Hazel Wood, William Allibone & Co., Philadelphia. Witness: James Trimble. C'mon guys, we can go the entire day finding xebecs in the west indies and colonies. Same as any other rig type used by european powers. Happens is that Le Requin is a big ass xebec, but still smaller than the El Gamo.

PvP or Prey?
Hethwill, the Red Duke replied to Old Crusty's topic in Patch Feedback and General discussions
Bah, typical OW chance encounter... Privateer spots trade convoy. Attacks. More often than not the first chat is something like... - "Don't you have anything better to do than just attack defenceless traders ?" ... sigh.. -
PvP or Prey?
Hethwill, the Red Duke replied to Old Crusty's topic in Patch Feedback and General discussions
Ouch... But okay, I take it as it comes. My choice remains, as PvP comes in waves, sometimes the hunter, other times the hunted. As Pirate Jesus said to his Crew - as you receive, so shall you deliver. My eye for yerr eye and me and you will look awesome wearing eye-patches ! -

PvP or Prey?
Hethwill, the Red Duke replied to Old Crusty's topic in Patch Feedback and General discussions
Mimic, as best as possible, the naval warfare of the age of sail whatever the game mechanics. I favour the corsair, privateer, robber at sea imaginary. Hence i sail a lot looking for prey. Other pvp routines, more Master&Commander O'Brien style, like happened yesterday late in the game session. PvP is whenever I want and whenever my enemies want. @Old Crusty the poll options surely look biased, like you cornering the types. I feel discomfortable answering any of those, but ultimately as posted I go hunt for trade convoys. -

Hethwill, the Red Duke replied to admin's topic in News Announcements & Important discussions
Ah-ha ! That's the fun part about age of sail. What was the objective ? Taking prizes, apprehending the enemy privateers. I am sure the ship perfectly suits that purpose in its conception. Do not try to transform her into something she isn't built for. Embrace the ship as she is and chase prey she is supposed to go after. o7 -

Jezzebuus... do we play the same game or something ?... C'mon... If we almost ALMOST been able to overcome the DD in a L«Ocean with Princes and Privateer i am sure you can manage versus a frigate with one. quoting you... and don't take this the wrong way " And the funny situation two similar sized boarders... Cant RAGEboard each other. " -

And they also had less. And they also didn't have access to navy arsenal so they had to equip with whatever they could. And ... and... and... Ship does have the correct crew. And it can board way bigger vessels. You just have to be more complete in your approach, so no push pull kill all the time. Le Requin is a fine veffel. Shame to see it used as a whip. -
Captin, we're safe! .. Are we?
Hethwill, the Red Duke replied to Liq's topic in Patch Feedback and General discussions
Full loss ? Tarkov. Don't Escape, lose all your gear - insured items only returned to you if they are not looted and taken by an enemy. Still in development though. So, survive and win ( don't lose ) or die, lose all the gear you took with you... and keep trying. In truth, as long as you have a knife ( aka. in NA a basic cutter ) you can get back on your feet. Gimme my cookie. -

Whaaaaa.... Leave stern alone you hear !!! If more captains decide to not always go FULL sail and actually think ahead they would be less stern camped... ( and rig shocked... ) -
Server Deployments
Hethwill, the Red Duke replied to a question in Feature proposals and Gameplay Help Q&A
I believe private servers were never considered. Oceania server has been referred a while ago by admin as a possibility, but not as a pre-release early access deployment. -
Captin, we're safe! .. Are we?
Hethwill, the Red Duke replied to Liq's topic in Patch Feedback and General discussions
You are not "simulating" age of sail. You are not denying trade nor capturing supplies nor escorting your own company convoys. Not in the Zone invading battles at least. Trade blockade of KPR has been done since forever in snow brigs and schooners with high risk - try to interdict a indiaman convoy with privateers and then talk the walk. Like many, you are simply gaming the game. Nothing wrong with that. Not everyone has the knack for the age of sail experience at the best as time allows.
