  1. Russian patch note says this: Возвращен поворот кораблей на центр Does that mean that ships now pivot around their midpoint, instead of the stern (where the rudder is), as they should? If so, that is not an obscure detail for realism fanatics. There are without question hundreds of players who steer boats in real life, of all sizes, and the fact that they pivot on the stern is a very prominent and important part of vesselhandling. Very different from a car and much more interesting.
  2. Why do you think you're a captain? Captains don't float eight feet off the deck or swivel around the ship in a jetpack.
  3. So she does. I glanced at a very low-res image and that little Pallas looked like a billethead. In any case, she's not the only ship missing its figurehead. I suspect the devs regard it as low-priority pre-release polishing.
  4. What length they 'look' to you is ultimately not very important. I'm skeptical that Cerb turns slower than Surprise. But I routinely called for Cerberus to be the most maneuverable frigate, so if it's not the case, it should still happen. 5. Exactly. Disabling a deck with the F-keys should halt reload and reassign the crew to the opposite battery.
  6. I'd say it's a mitigating circumstances that the broken pirate v pirate mechanic prevented them from joining on their friend's side.
  7. Small vessels have no place in deep water port battles. Low-level players can easily find their own ports to attack. This will only be solved by shoals and reefs in the port battle instances. Imagine a fort that is surrounded by shoals. A smaller ship can approach and lie beneath the guns safely, but the SoLs must stand outside, getting pounded by the batteries.
  8. After MONTHS of the British taking Spanish ports under the guise of an 'alliance.' Ports which were never given back, but just dangled in negotiations. Britain behaved from day one like the U.S. government ripping up treaties with the indians. Never have I seen an alliance that involves ceding half your territory, then receiving zero support. And yet somehow the Spanish are the backstabbing villains for trying to retake their own ports. And herein lies the problem. Spain being set up to fail is every bit as stupid as pirate First Rates. The game can make compromises with history without altogether laughing in its face. Let's be real here. If the game mechanics made the U.S. as weak as it was historically, and the British were landing in Charleston, the American faction's whining would be deafening.
  9. Yeah, because that's totally how shipbuilding worked IRL. So the people working at a shipyard can carve and shape timbers with axes, but they can't use those axes to cut the trees down in the first place? Do your employees adhere to some sort of Hindu caste system?
  10. US had a huge unpopulated hinterland of resource ports.
  11. So you are suggesting that Spain is unreasonable for not signing away its territory? And the other nations regards this as negative characteristic? I can discern two political values here: You believe that larger factions have a right to conquer smaller ones, and that the smaller factions should be grateful for any amount of mercy or restraint If your own faction was under threat by a more powerful foe, you would roll over and lick your conqueror's boot, just to keep your precious gold ports Simultaneously out-of-control imperial chauvinism and a preference for gutless servility and appeasement. The British and Americans evoke the former and heap scorn on Spain for not exhibiting the latter.
  12. And really... If you want to take your faction to world domination, that's OK. It really is. This is an RvR game right now. It rewards total conquest and destruction of your enemies. If you want to wipe out Spain or Sweden or France, just say so. Admit it. But for the love of all that is holy, don't shriek about how your perfidious victims are forcing you to destroy them. Don't wax poetic about your own nobility and magnanimity, lamenting that your enemies won't sue for peace. First the U.S. did it, now Britain. You all sound like a bunch of chickenshit bullshit artists, every last one.
  13. It's because the hull of Surprise is that of the real frigate, the former French L'Unite. She apparently had a billethead instead of a figurehead. Only the rig and cosmetic details are patterned on 21st Century Fox's retrofitting Rose.
  14. Pretty sure that's mathematically impossible.
  15. Cool story bro. Britain has decided to reduce Spain to one port, but wants peace and a prosperous Spain? I don't understand how all these British and Americans don't die of shame when they say things like this. Britain wants Spain to be soooo prosperous that they are going to destroy it utterly until they hear the screams for mercy that they crave. Spain gets the bad rap for clueless diplomacy, but now Britain is repeating the same mistakes. I said it ad nauseum months ago; I say it again now. If you back someone into a corner and leave them nothing to lose, they will never surrender. Both factions post high-minded pap on the forums, roleplaying fin bewigged gentlemen, while their behavior is that of a toddler tyrant smashing sandcastles.

  17. That will never happen again, though. No more XP wipes. (Just like how the BP system will fall apart once all the current crafters can access the full lineup.)
  18. In the past there was a lot of discussion as to whether smaller rudder angles and gentle turns were needed. In the past we concluded that such a feature would be minimally useful. But now I'm of a different mind. In a chase, it is impossible to make even slight course adjustments without bleeding tons of speed. I find myself making tiny yard angle changes in order to yaw slowly without decelerating. This isn't good from the standpoint of realism or utility. Double-tapping the Control key should lock the rudder in the current position, and any further input should unlock it.
  19. Seems to me like Britain is losing pretty badly. You'd rather attack undefended ports in Mexico. Has Britain ever successfully fought a war in this game, or do they just backstab their own allies? It's certainly easier that way.
  20. Exactly so.I make no excuses for Spain, but the behavior of the US and British has been even more embarassing to watch. Greedily taking ports and blaming the Spanish for declaring war afterwards. Blaming the Spanish for trying regain their OWN ports. Acting like butthurt little emperors and trying to destroy the game for the entire faction in order to punish a few rude and inept diplomats. Pretty sad when the pirates are more honorable. And the US and Britain decided the pirates were a problem after there were no more Spanish ports to nightflip. And Britain even now continues to attack Spain while retreating before the rats. Cutting off your nose to spite your face.
  21. Not sure I agree with that. At least one of her duels with a British frigate (can't remember if it was Java or not) was won by hammering away at long range. Such tactics were not at all the fashion at the time. She had a good reputation for accuracy.
  22. Marines apparently spend most of their time having fun with rum, until you board someone. IMHO crew missing due to marines modules should have a discount on management penalties. In combat I find it hard to believe that the marines would stand around idle. They're on the weather deck and can easily clap on to a brace or clew line, doing landsman's work. Or reload quarterdeck guns.
  23. Definitely not. However, port investments should create a tiered system of PB limitations. Building a big enough fort could require 24-hr notice of a PB, while the ultimate upgrade on a very few regional capitals could restrict battles to the weekend.
