  1. Me too. It's death to testing as well.
  2. Whatever the reality is, can we all agree that less pokey guns look better, aesthetically speaking?
  3. The map is huge. This change will convince PvE players to relocate to the may quiet corners of the Caribbean. Less whining from them, less wasted time chasing reluctant targets for the PvP crowd.

  4. Mission-based PvE deserves to be destroyed. It is the worst this game has to offer. PvE players should be hunting on the OW for their prey. Also, you are exaggerating enormously. No one is ever going to gank a mission on the Gulf Coast right now.

  5. It's mostly just the damage model and UI that has changed since that video. It's still valid for showing how to maneuver a line, communicate your speed settings, and stay together.
  6. Yes. I remember all the #@#&@^&*(* kiting from leeward, chipping away at your armor with no chance to respond.
  7. Bear in mind that you won't find such inexperienced enemies on the OW nowadays. Also, it's amazing how flimsy ships were in that old game version. Currently you would find it very difficult to do such decisive damage at that range, with increased HP, partial penetrations and ricochets. It's very hard to imagine an enemy fleet failing to come to grips with a slow leeward group like that now.
  8. But don't worry, those genius pirates can just cut the upper works off and turn them into killing machines. Because they have scrappy blue-collar personas and American accents, not like those bumbling wig-wearing dandies in the Royal Navy.
  9. Well then you have not maneuvered for sufficient advantage, and don't deserve to land every shot. IRL raking fire from a distance was not effective.
  10. Not really sure. It's understandable that leaks in the bow would be difficult to plug at higher speeds. And a ship that's being sailed hard will flex and strain in the waves. Based on this chart, a 4" hole near the waterline will admit water which is moving at around 4 miles per hour. So I suppose if you add 12 miles per hour of boatspeed, you could see a real difference. That's my ignoramus physics hypothesis. https://flexpvc.com/Reference/WaterFlowBasedOnPipeSize.shtml
  11. If you can get several good hits on someone's rudder, you have already caught them. Rudders can also be repaired more than once.
  12. +100500 to luggers. But we already have sloops of war and corvettes. Brigantines would be only a little different from Pickle or the brig, while sloops would be identical to the cutter, so far as non-specialists are concerned. The ideal bomb vessel would be a ketch, and Chapman has a very interesting privateer ketch design familiar from POTBS. But on the whole, ketches were not a successful type. Barque longues were French proto-frigates from the early 1700s and would be outclassed.
  13. That was an example of someone waiving the rookie zone start and PvE for X amount of time as they see fit.
  14. I interpret this post to mean that there is a video out there of someone capping Vicious' SoL in a cutter. I can't wait to see it.
  15. Frigate crews had an entire deck devoted to their hammocks, while SoL crew shared space with the guns.
  16. The newbie zone is optional... Every new player can spawn at the capital and PvE for the first 100 hours if they want.
  17. Can't tell if serious. It's unfair that some people are better at aiming than you? Or are you asking if the devs gave special buffs to certain clans? If I was a developer and someone asked me something so outrageous, I would be insulted.
  18. Why would we not? How would strategic play be possible if we didn't know? Let's not imagine mountains where there probably aren't molehills.
  19. Why does BR even give us a reason to sail a ship? With the new ROE, what is the advantage of low BR? You can make Victory the worst 1st Rate and give her the same BR as the gunboat. No one will sail her. You can't bribe players with BR.

  20. So in that case we have a 1680's two-decker with the broadside weight of Trinc, having the same BR as Niagara or Cerberus? This is not a very good outcome. While of course the crew requirement is closer to Trinco. So again, no reason to actually sail them, except to arbitratily minimize BR.
  21. Wrong one. Renommee was the wave of the future in 1744, however.
  22. No it won't. No one is going to use a 200 BR two-decker when they can sail a 200 BR frigate that has the same armament in a much faster package. Edit: Which is to say, some people would sail them. I would want one. But they would never be competitive.
  23. So they can fall into the same trap as Ingermanland by being slow, under-crewed and under-armed?

  24. An entire server for noobs is downright daft (a few dozen cutters spread across the whole Caribbean, really?) and a huge waste of developer resources. Has anyone stopped to think about it, or are they just parroting the idea?
